Regardless it's entirely their call, they offer the price and you take it or not. Semantics about how the legal stuff is phrased don't change this and it's not really legal stuff them demanding people move to standard pricing.

Retentions deals are supposed to be the exception rather than the rule used to retain customers who are considering leaving, though you do wonder reading this thread how exceptional they are.

Anyway just give it time, they'll do what they always do and start throwing the retentions deals on the tier out like sweets in time ;)

I understand the comments about retention deals, I got mine without even asking. I phoned to ask what it would cost to go from M+ TV to XL with a V+ so we could watch HD and the guy said "It's your lucky day - we've just got some great deals in", so he offered be an upgrade to tripple XL for Â£46.99 per month and I said ta very much. there was no threatening to leave, no haggling.

So the next question is:

If, as according to this thread, XL20 users will be upgraded in time anyway, would it be a good idea to phone CS and pay the Â£75 for the hub, keep the ongoing discounts and in time be upgraded for free?

I am on a retentions deal with a super hub, they can't push the upgrade through with the deal as the system doesn't let them. Just got to wait for the auto upgrades to come through to get round that though.

Until any mass upgrade is officially announced I would not count on it happening or when it may happen

Here's my setup!

2.6ghz G network on the superhub.
This connects to an Airport Extreme running in 5ghz N wireless.

My 2 imacs are connected to the airports 'N' network. All the other devices such as xbox, wii, ipad, phones etc all connect to the 'G' network.

I know i could have 2 wirless networks on the superhub, but I have 2 1TB hard drives and a USB printer connected to the airport extreme so still need to keep that in the loop.

Anyway, its all working spot on and am getting the full speeds as shown above through the wireless on the airport extreme!

Honestly it is all dumbed down so as to be as non confusing as possible. Just have your account number to hand, write down the MAC code printed on the Superhub and call the number in the literature. It takes a while (10) minute to settle down and if you have a switched off computer connected into one of the ethernet ports you are good to go when the lights are green, green, blue (top).

My P.C.'s were set up up with static IP's in a different router's range scale with also specified DNS servers which would have caused complications. Most people use DHCP with auto allocated DNS so unless you have specified something other than default, it should be plain sailing.

The router access IP is in the literature along with user name + initial password (needs changing). Wireless is easy to set up and sets to good security straight out of the box. I can see about 12 networks around my house and 4 are wide open but just follow the simple instructions and it does it all with good security.

You have nothing to worry about unless you already have levels of complications with multiple networks or devices using different levels of wireless eg B, G & N. If you had you would already be working out the work arounds so don't worry.

I as one of the 20meg sceptics who didn't want to lose out on upgrading but with a satisfactory deal went for it and am pleased that I did.

I feel sorry for people who are in non upload upgraded areas because until they are sorted they will not see numbers like these.

Thanks, I was with you for the first two paragraphs, but then my brain fried at the third (LOL).

I do believe that for me it should be straightforward. One main PC to be cabled into it and then a few wireless devices. Settings make me paranoid, but I'm glad to hear that the manual is clear. When I replaced my router it was supposed to be a 5 minute job, turned into an hour and me wanting to throw it into the wall! It was actually something simple, but not obvious (if that makes sense).

I do very much appreciate the attempt to de-stress me though :) I'm sure it will be fine. Good to read this thread though and learn things about the light colours etc, so if it doesn't go quite right I know where I can start looking.

The gist is 30Mb is available to all for 30 quid now. If you already have the Superhub (from a recent 20Mb install?) and are prepared to wait you can have 30Mb in "a while..." for free.

I have been on 20Mb from the days of getting 1Mb in a hurry cos I heard there was a 2Mb free trial on offer (remember that!?!) - just managed to get in - and somehow was paying 21.50 after discounts so I went the 50Mb route, no upfront fee and I end up paying 3 quid a month more for the year - Result!! Tuesday install.

Seriously - I do hope it is just that simple, I just know with my luck it never usually is. But will stop worrying about it and will see what happens when it arrives.
