Lid off, and microwave for a few seconds at a time, with standing pauses between each heating.

Just stand the jar in hot water for a short while..No need to add hot water to the honey.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

Ok I couldn't for the life of me remember the name bottle in my original post so put jar. Although very good to know of the microwave trick I couldn't put a plastic bottle in the microwave.

I put hot water in the plastic bottle then started to shake continuously until my arms hurt. What I found out while resting is when the crystallised honey is submerged in hot water it loosens. So I was violently shaking the bottle for nothing. :(

So just been assaulted on a nice walk out in the sun. Yob on a quad bike riding up behind me pulling wheelies dangerously close felt very unsafe. Reacted to this which I guess was my mistake. He jumped off the bike threw a punch hit me side of the head more ear than anything. I grabbed him saw I could throw him but his friend was right there and a gang just down the path so backed down. Not a happy chappie . Likely end up on social media for all his yob mates to see so my anxiety is up now cuz it was far to local

It sounds like you already done this but remember in the moment everything is fine but on further reflection it's generally totally opposite by that I mean your reaction to it all. You probably feel hard done by but just imagine the guys life. Constantly fighting. How sad. Prison awaits them.

Im really sorry to hear that. Little *******s like that always get away with too much bad behaviour.

A few years back I was in a Tesco Express and a bunch of chavs wandered in making noise and you could see it wouldn’t end well. They were throwing fruit at each other, the security guard was as effective as a chocolate teapot and they started making a proper mess when they decided to throw cartons of milk about the place. I decided I just wanted to get my stuff and get out of there.

Then they began throwing eggs about and one of them hit the back of my head and that’s where I drew the line. I went straight over to the little scrote who threw it and he said in a loud voice “I swear to GOD if you touch me I’ll get the police on you”. I paused for a second and said “fair enough” and accidentally threw a right hook which even more accidentally landed on his jaw, meaning he somehow ended up on his arse. The rest of his gang ran around like headless chickens bipping on about “calling the police”.

I made sure I was seen on the shop cctv, paid for my stuff and walked out.

That was 3 years ago and not heard a peep from the po-po in that time.

Chavs gotta learn the hard way.

Hard to say as I am due for cataract op on the 24th, which it would appear I am going to have to cancel due to not being able to lie on my back for 20 minutes or whatever.:(

Morrisons checkouts.

The damn things query an item's weight when it isn't sold by weight! If an item falls off and you put it back, it tends to become an 'unexpected item'!

And they try to hurry you along! Listen 'ere, I had a stroke and my right hand is virtually useless, so of course I take my time! Effectively I only have one hand! The last thing I need is some bloody AI implying I'm going too slowly! I'll give you 'please take your items' - I'm working on it!!!

Come to think of it, as a one-time programmer one thing I hate to see is card-only checkouts which don't default to cards as the payment method - what is the point of asking you if you wish to continue?! Of course you do - that's why you choose a card-only one, to save time (you hope)!

Morrisons self service tills are the worst. You press the on-screen buttons and they don’t register, you’re waiting ages before the screen catches up.

Tesco, Sainsbury’s and ASDA, their self service machines work fine. Morrisons feel like they’re still on Windows 98.

I don't have kids to know of that compromise.

They were screaming on the train earlier. Pissed me off. The parents were useless. "Please be quiet, stop disturbing everyone on the train". "We won't be going swimming if you carry on".

Also, how did that make it your problem ?

Castration.

Seriously how is their life become my problem? Hearing their racket caused me problems, a headache, it done my heading. I would have gone into first class but that was in the same carriage/coach which would have made little difference.

The parents moved to the other side of the carriage at one point leaving the kids alone on the other side. There was the walkway in between them.

On Friday a family decided to leave behind a mess of wotsits all crushed. Luckily for me that was the only empty table seats available. A little housekeeping was required. :(

The majority of the time it's problem free to be honest. It's just the odd occasion the antisocial mob decide to go out for the day.

Where possible, I much prefer to use self-service tills. I'm anti-social, so I can't be bothered with inane chit-chat about the weather, and I know they're only being polite, but if I want a bag or receipt, I'll ask for them thanks.

With self-service (except in Morrisons), I can get in, pay, and then get back out pronto.

Paul 21-04-2025 17:41

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

Never really had any issues with Morrisons self service (they are our nearest).

Asda tills seem to be really impatient, complaining or even giving up while I'm getting the rewards code up on my phone.

On the odd time I've had to use one there's always something goes wrong, then I have to have help and that makes me feel small. FFS I've been programming for over 40 years and hate computers.

I rather wait and use a real person at the checkout.

Royal Mail. This is the first time it's happened to me. I had a parcel coming special delivery by 1pm Friday. I waited then informed the sender I had to go out, I had waited long enough. 20mins past the hour the parcel turns up left at my door signed for by the postie. I didn't get back home until 11:45pm :banghead: I look forward getting a postage refund! I asked my dad to pass by and put it indoors for me.

I have to use intermittent catheters and have done for some years. The units I originally was prescribed were pulled by the manufacturer and so I was given another type that I "love" and have had no issues with for years. Hampshire have now switched the prescribing agent from GP to a central, specialist body to provide better cover as I would get access to nurses and additional help. I put in my order with the new body rather than calling the supplier who prescribed via the GP but also had nurses available if I needed them. I now get calls saying that the units I like are not in the formulary and I have to change. They sent me samples but they were uncomfortable and painful to use so they are sending more samples. The last call was more blunt that the new unit is partly there to save money.
To say that I am annoyed is putting it mildly.

A local has taken to social media to moan about getting a fine for parking his trailer on the road, often for days or weeks on end. He has had several warning letters, and a doorstep warning, so this was the next level of escalation.

What did he expect? The council enforcement vehicle, with all its cameras, is cruising around problem parking areas on a daily basis, as is a DVLA van.

Many insulin-dependant diabetics across the UK (and further afield) have had to change the hypodermic needles that they have been using for years. This is reported to be because of the huge uptake in people wanting "fat-jabs" that use the same needles. The manufacturer has opted to supply the fatties first as it is more profitable, so NHS procurement has been scrambling to find replacements, but all have increased their prices to profit from the demand.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates

On Wednesday a mate living near my mother messaged me to say he thinks she’d fallen outside her house as she appeared to be on the ground with a few people around her. He wasn’t able to stop but it was good of him to contact me.

After getting out of work I arrived an hour later and they’d brought her inside and she was enormous pain on her upper leg but curiously as long as she didn’t try to move it or bear weight on it, it didn’t hurt and was in fairly good spirits. As typical for her 82 year old self she didn’t want a fuss but fortunately a police car was passing and the officer stopped to see if he could do anything and his assessment was to get her to A&E. Driving her there would have been agony so we called an ambulance which turned up about 2 hours later. The operator acknowledged she’d be in pain but as it wasn’t life threatening and there wasn’t any swelling or heavy bruising it wasn’t a highest priority. Fair enough I guess.

She only had to wait about 40 minutes and they had her x-rayed etc.

Turns out she has unsurprisingly fractured her hip.

She’s being operated on this evening and is looking at least 2 weeks in hospital before they can consider discharging her and even then it’s most likely in to respite care for maybe a month or so.

Can’t say I’m disappointed in the Welsh NHS on this occasion but there you go.

Interestingly when she took the fall the first people to come to help were 2 15 year old lads who stayed with her and assisted with getting her inside. She had no idea who they were but the mate who was passing thought he knew their first names and with the power of Facebook i managed to track them down and made sure to thank their parents for bringing them up so well. There have been quite a few arson incidents in Port Talbot lately so teens have been given a bad name so I made sure to thank them publicly. My mother has even insisted I arrange to meet them and give them a reward. The parents have said no need for that but my mother is very stubborn on this.

Anyway my mother hates hospitals as well as the loss of her independence but this is one of those times she’ll just have to suck it up.

Sorry to hear this Russ. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

My husband's the same age and calling him stubborn would be an understatement. He had a new hip last year and my son and I had to threaten to throw away his ladders when we found him planning to clean the gutters only weeks after his discharge from hospital. So keep a close eye on her when she gets home these octogenarians can be dang tricky blighters.

I had this lady on the train today sitting on the other side of the carriage, elderly but not struggling old. She had an iPhone and airpods and it was like she just discovered radio waves  her conversation was our conversation, very loud. I understand wearing earphones cancels out noise which makes you believe your voice is a lot quieter than you think but come on she may as well been on loud speaker

Anyway I brought too much food for lunch today which killed my hunger for dinner at a restaurant :banghead:

Preparing for a new system boiler install over the next 3 days along with TRV radiator valves on all radiators due to regulations and then a smart thermostat Hive setup which means I'm moving furniture that hasn't been moved in 15+ years, so I'm finding thick layers of dust I never new existed(cough).

Building regulations now state all radiators must have TRVs fitted except where a room thermostat is in the same room, on new builds or replacing an old boiler.

Strange, we had no such requirement.
You would struggle to even do this on our oldest radiators.

Nasty side effect of walking on average 10 miles a day is I have lost both my big toe nails and it is making a mess of a few of my other toes . Quite a common side effect of the impact and rubbing apparently

There's got to be some socks designed to combat friction, rubbing and sweat?

I wear cushioned trainer socks then a normal pair of crew socks ontop. The only issues I've had is toe jams which means air out your feet. My doctor prescribed daktacort, that worked wonders.

The sporty brands sell all in one cushion socks. My cousin swears by them.

Only 10 miles? That was a leisurely stroll during my Service years. If you are damaging toenails, the biggest culprit is usually your footwear being too short, and the second is pulling your socks too tight. Cotton and wool socks hang onto moisture, so fungal diseases can thrive and they can cause nail loss. Polyester, acrylic, and nylon are best because they help wick away moisture.

After waiting 4 dry weeks to get the gutters and downpipes unblocked, we just had a worker turn up and say that he is not allowed to climb his ladder if it is wet. It was our first real rain for many weeks! So he booked us in for another day, in 28 days time.

I'm an Admin on a Facebook group for performance Renault Clio cars, and for people to join up they just have to ask 5 simple questions for us to approve before getting in. Likely hundreds of thousands of groups have the same process, so it's not like having questions will come as a shock to anyone.

We get about 5 to 10 new requests for approval per day, and yes, I know there'll always be bots, but around half of these won't have answered all 5 questions (the bots never answer any). Sometimes they'll only answer 3, or 2 or whatever. We have it in nice bold wording that they need to answer all the questions before approval. but STILL some people just can't grasp the concept :afire:

"va va voom" said Thierry Henry :D

I was offered a Clio many years ago. I chose public transport. Not because I dislike Renaults. More so because I don't think I could tolerate driving amongst millions of others.

My Dacia Logan is basically a Clio with a different body. Plenty of oomph for a 3-cylinder 0.9 engine with turbo.

The missus' niece hurtles around Paris in a Clio that leaves many other cars behind.

I have 2, the 0.9 turbo which as you say is surprisingly nippy and I use it for Mrs Russ’ deliveries and the Trophy 220 which is ridiculously fast.

One day I’ll have the v6 Clio just for the absolute daftness of it.

My moan, we lost Chase just over a week ago to cancer. Completely blind sided us. The ultrasound showed a mass from both sides we got an urgent referral for a CT scan and it was even worse than we feared and we had to let him go.

He was only seven and we only had three short years of him being part of our pack.

The house is so very quiet without him

I helped a friend turn his Logan 1 into a sleeper, which he used for a tour around Europe. Even I, at 6'3", could lie down in the back! I saw this 2019 Logan 2 on offer at the dealership at 3 years' old, and HQ dropped its price twice to "get it off the forecourt". But they forgot to tell the dealer, so he was shocked when the final price came up on his screen. He had thrown in a new boot cover, 5 new wheels and tyres, a new toolkit, mats and a free annual service to "sweeten the deal". :D

Blooming trains. There was a track inspection at London bridge this morning so I had to go further into London. Annoying thing was to get back on route to my destination the connection train that originally was meant to stop at London bridge stopped at London bridge :banghead: so I literally just killed time going further into London.

Seems to happen mostly in corner shops, newsagents etc but staff who stare at you whilst you’re looking on a shelf/display for something.

I don’t accept that it’s their way of being ‘available’ to be asked where something is etc otherwise they’d simply ask if they can help, or is there something I need helping to find etc.

Also online shops/businesses that automatically take you to a “please answer our questionnaire about your experience purchasing from us” as soon as you’ve bought what you need, or they send the same kind of thing by email.

If I’m happy/unhappy with the service I’ll tell them. Badgering me for a review guarantees a 1 star (or no stars if available) to all questions when they do that.

with you on that. Another one is Amazon asking you to review a product the day after it was delivered expecting you to have had it fully tested by then. Often it is still in the box

I sat in first class earlier today because the train was packed. In first class was a lovely family whom thought it would be ideal if their screaming kids were everyone else's problem. Piss take.

Later on my return journey were a young group of people clearly merry that I didn't find so invasive. Loud they were too. Go figure.

The main Grand Arcade parking is extortionate upto 4hrs cost me £18.90!!! And if I had hit the 5hr mark it would have been £29.40!!! If I had gone to Peterborough it would have cost £4 for 4hrs.
