Considering it forms part of the premium channels and we pay subscription costs for this I do hope it's not withhold

I wonder if it's the start of a pick and mix approach.

Possibly the reason the additional Sky Sports HD channels haven't arrived yet. If this does launch, maybe this will come at the same time. Watch this space I guess!

That's 100% real. I tuned the channel into my SKY box and took the picture myself using the LG TV remote phone app. I know it looks suspect :D Want to see what happens when I push the blue button for pack info? (I don't know what happens myself yet)

A bit of an anticlimax

As for Virgin getting the channel, surely it's a must. Just not sure about HD version of the channel I'm afraid.

But can we rule out Sky Sports 5 being a rebranding of the red button service/Sky Sports Xtra service? It's a possibility, surely?

The way that it currently loops through on the test/glitch to the info about the channel makes me think that the EPG could stay the same with SS5 being an "interactive" service activated via the red button is possible. Potentially you would just "activate" Sky Sports 5 by pressing the red button and it wouldn't appear on the EPG as a channel (as with their red button content currently).

Seems plausible. Just not sure why I'd have to activate it.
