Actually it's 28 days if I am not mistaken.

28 days is the Money Back Guarantee. For tier changes and disconnection notices it's 30 days

I want to do the deal but dont want to pay more.
when is the tivo box due, I may wait to do a combo deal.

When TiVo finally arrives you will pay a one off fee of maybe up to £200 plus £3 per month before you even think of the 30Mb upgrade.;)

I can live with paying a bit for the tv as it will get lots of use, whereas the benefit from 20 to 30 is not so important.

I just want the new hub with gig switch so I can free up a gig switch and make the network a bit tidier with the wiring.

Thought I would chip in this thread with my experiences with this upgrade (or lack of)
As I had read in this thread, upgrades seem impossible if you have an old/loyalty/retention deal of a certain kind.
I currently have 20MB broadband and XL TV package for £42.50 a month and a HD box I bought for £70 a while back.
I received a mail shot today and just called them up. I have been told that the reason I can't have the upgrade is because I don't have a land line deal with them, after stating that I've never had a landline and don't want one they offered me the upgrade for a £30 one-off fee and a new monthly bill of £58! So as you can assume I'm not upgrading at the moment :(

True, but based on the website that's competely the correct price for XL (30) and XL tv without a phone line

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

Just plugged my new Super Hub in and activated it, good speed test results but not as good as what's been posted here. I can hit 26-27Mb/s down and around 1.5-2Mb/s up.

Previously on 20Mb I'd consistently get 19.55Mb/s down and 1.96Mb/s up.

Might wait a while and see what the Sam Knows Dashboard reports, it could just be traffic on the speedtest.net nodes...

--EDIT--

Ignore me, plugged straight into the Super Hub with Ethernet and it hit 31Mb/s down but still only 2Mb/s up...

Might have to simplify my network setup, I've currently got WiFi on the Super Hub turned off and Ethernet to my Airport Extreme with 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g/n turned on.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

After 3 calls to VM I'm totally confused!

First call they hung up on me because I politely said I couldn't understand him as he spoke with a heavy foreign accent and was speaking too fast.

I tried again and was told I couldn't have the upgrade without losing my retention/loyalty deal. As far as I was aware I only had a discount for having 3 packages. Never threatened to leave and only contact was when I upgraded my box to a HD Cisco and had HD activated about 10 months ago. I do accept it's I started a new contract then.

This is my bill.

Telephone Line Rental £12.24
Talk Evening and Weekends £3.50
Phone, Bband XL & TV Discount £-17.00
TV Size: M £0.00
V HD Box £0.00
Broadband Size: X L £37.00

On the 3rd call I asked again and they said that it was only available at £18.50 + £30 activation if I had XL tv package but that might (he wasn't sure on this) mean me losing my -17.00 discount. I was actually going to upgrade to xl tv anyway and said I'd think about it. He then told me that it was pointless upgrading as my area wasn't upgraded yet (Blackburn).

Why does everything have to be so difficult?
And just how do you get to talk to someone in UK?
Not really happy about this because I've been loyal to cable since Nynex days.

Moan over :D

You should be able to get it easily. The pre discount cost of XL (30) is the same as XL (20) at £37. All that should change is your discount would increase to £18.50 to make the cost of your broadband £18.50 after discounts (which is how it's advertised)

All areas can get 30Mbit straight away. There is no need for the area to be upgraded.

Does a tech have to come out though? And if so why ?

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

Thanks for the info.

Can you recommend a number I can call to get this? As 150 doesn't seem to get me anywhere other than India. I feel a bit hesitant about asking to be put through to a UK rep as it might seem a bit racist.

Is it possible to add XL tv at the same time? I'd rather do the 2 at once as it will just make 1 contract date.

It should be a Self Install but in some cases the may be a requirement for a manned installation due to many reasons such as the person is a technophobe or they are older and unsure what to do, in these case the is no installation fee.

would love to speak to someone who would just switch it on ... Every time I ring they keep telling me it's a tech install , think I will just wait for them to switch it over automatically :( , super hub already installed and power levels are fine .
