Well your posting history has you saying Sky Atlantic will be on Virginmedia within the coming months. This was in April 2011 and it ain't come yet.

You also say your VM insider has told VM are in talks..Still over a year later no news. Have you ever made a correct prediction? Nope!

A) its rentals not sales :o:

b) Given that people have no choice in the matter ( if opting for cable what was the rental figures take up pre TiVo )

c) The laserdisc player sold a total of 16.8 million pieces and look what happened to that!
Sorry 900,000 is not a great sum - given that many were "given away"
Hi you would have shifted a a lot of Wartburgs given that" sales plan "

Standard VHD boxes are still available.

In less than a year?! That's a fantastic figure, relatively speaking of course.

How many were "given away" though? Something like 2,000? Certainly not many more than that.

l don't make predictions as l just go by what certain sources tell me and if we were to go by predictions well Telly your prediction of Virgin won't be around in a few years has to be the most laughable prediction l have ever heard.

Huh?

Whatever. The point is that they have "given away" a tiny, almost insignificant, number of them :)

Well there was the original alpha/beta testers, then the 'Tivo 500' then those that got the engraved remote through the post (free Tivo for life?) then there was the raffle. I think that probably covers more than your 2000, then there are people like me who where offered the Tivo if we kept the V+, now I know there was an additional outlay for the Tivo but the ongoing multiroom discount (my bill also fell by a couple of £'s per month) more than offset the cost so in reality a free Tivo.

So all in all I think the figure of 'Certainly not many more than 2000' is probably well short of the mark, add that to the comments of the CEO in the Earnings Presentation & Strategy Update on 8th February 2012 that box costs can be waived if the customer has the potential to deliver long term value means that, to some extent at least, the numbers of free boxes out there is probably continuing to rise.

Cheers

Grim

And is there another PVR for Sky as an alternative to Sky+? So what was the point?

Not relevant.

Fair point. More than I remember :)

Yes, and? There are offers all the time. A Tivo is still a Tivo.

I count no more than the 2,500 outlined above. But then they are still "a Tivo in a customers house". As are the rest; however they're accounted for.

Unless you're looking to a. be pedantic and b. any excuse to belittle the success of the VM Tivo.

Yes and no (Sky+ with or without HD and the 1TB).

Your standard answer to something that doesn't fit with the Tivo utopia that is Carlsworld

The rest of the post is your usual attempt to justify your everything Tivo must be good attitude.

As for being pedantic, I'd be quite worried if you didn't know what that word means because I would imagine you hear it often during your journey through life.

So it's Sky+ or nothing; just as it's Tivo or nothing (since September. And I understand that they are still swapping-out faulty V+ boxes or giving then out if you insist.)

Just as your standard answer to anything good about VM/Tivo is to question it or find a bad spin

Well it is. It's not perfect, of course, but then no-one has ever said it is. It is, however, the best bit of tech I've ever owned; which is why I've had one since 2002! (Apart from a short period of having a V+. Talk about a backward step!! :( I hated it.

I always wonder if the reason that some people are over pedantic and obsessive is because they are suffering from some form of autism (possibly undiagnosed) or if they do it on purpose to simply be vexatious?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

I think Carl's right, isn't he, that you can only get a sky+ hd box, albeit with different hard drive sizes, or a sky hd box? If so that's exactly the same as Virgin, and in fairness to them it makes no sense to offer two different types of pvr, especially when they're so very different.
