If you're an existing Pay Monthly customer, we have a number of ways for you to upgrade to the new iPhone 4.

Customers currently eligible for an upgrade can easily upgrade online or in an O2 shop, when the phone goes on sale on the 24th of June 2010.

However, even if you're currently in the middle of your minimum term there are a number of options to get your hands on one.

Option 1: Early Upgrade Offer, valid from 24 June to 24 July 2010.

You can pay a reduced one-off charge and upgrade straight away to an iPhone 4. To find out more about your charge and the rules have a look our Early Upgrade Offer.

Option 2: Buy the iPhone 4 on Pay & Go.

If you don't want to upgrade to a new iPhone on a Pay Monthly contract, you can buy an iPhone 4 on Pay & Go. Remember you'll need to continue to pay for your existing Pay Monthly contract.

Pay Monthly customers with O2 Insure can move their new Pay & Go iPhone onto their existing O2 Insure policy. Just give us a call within the first 3 days of purchase to let us know.

Option 3: Wait until you're eligible for an upgrade.

All Pay Monthly O2 customers are part of O2 Priority List and everyone has an opportunity to upgrade early. Have a look at the table below to see how soon you will be eligible for an upgrade.

If you're a Platinum customer... get a 6 month early upgrade
If you're a Gold customer... get a 3 month early upgrade
If you're a Silver or Blue customer... get a 1 month early upgrade

If you don't already know your Priority List tier you'll be able to find out from mid-day 10 June by texting DATE to 21302.

Terms apply. Get more information on O2 Priority List .

Switching to a micro sim

No matter how you choose to upgrade to iPhone 4, you'll need to change your current sim to a micro sim. We'll have more information about this soon.

Pay & Go customers upgrading to iPhone 4

If you're already on Pay & Go with O2 and buying the iPhone 4, you'll need to transfer your existing O2 number, balance and tariff onto a new micro sim. We'll have some more information on how to do this soon.

We know that some of you would love to get the new iPhone 4 but may not be eligible for an upgrade right now. So for a limited time, we have a very special offer for you.

Here's the offer:

Instead of paying off your remaining contract in full, simply pay a one-off charge equal to £20 for each full month left on your contract. This reduced cost offer cannot be combined with any early upgrade eligibility you may have as part of O2 Priority List.

Simply enter your contract renewal date below and we'll estimate how much your early upgrade charge will be.

If you don't already know your contract renewal date you will be able to find it out from mid-day on Thursday 10 June by texting DATE to 21302.

Gonna cost me £120 plus the cost of the 'phone to upgrade then by the look of it.

Sod that.

I'll wait until Jan and just pay the upgrade cost for the 'phone then.

Just make sure you sell it *before*, otherwise the price is liable to drop...

[Average recycle price for a 3G last year was £200 after the 3GS was released]

MoneySavingExpert.com has a site specifically for finding mobile recycling deals:

http://mobilevaluer.com/

Whack your phone in, & it finds all the offers for you.

Current highest for a 16GB 3GS is £260.

--------------

When I bought my 3GS last year, I did so before then selling my 3G via Mazuma.

I plan on selling it beforehand this time, & using Mrs D's crappy old spare Nokia (currently used only for Orange Weds) as a temp phone in the period between.

How so?

If you're in an iPhone contract, then not only did you sign a contract for a specified length of time, but your actual iPhone was heavily subsidised... So why should O2 let people off early for free?

As the cheapest Pay Monthly iPhone contract with O2 is £30/month, O2 could have just said "you pay us £30 x however many months you have left" & left it at that, but they didn't: they have offered to let people pay £20 for each remaining month instead.

Re: The iPhone thread

I'm not saying that £20 a month isn't very generous(!), but how many people is that really ripping off? They'd be better off locking people into 24 month contracts - a bit more cash for O2, more people restarting their contracts...[COLOR="Silver"]

It's also on T-Mobile!!

Having seen the new O2 tariffs I feel they will loose customers due to the unlimited data being replaced with a 500mb limit!!

Im currently not in contract...but if I upgrade I'll be on one of the crappy tariffs cos for 35/month you only get 300mins unlimited texts and atm I get 600mins 500 texts and i talk more than text so it would end up costing me more but 45/month is too much to pay

this is what I don't like about the iphone. Just because it is a popular phone they move you onto really bad contracts that offer less than what I had before I changed.

No, But from what I understand you'll need to upgrade to one of these contracts upon completion.
