Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

I must admit it seems more people are worried about the cap, than the fantastic new speed.
Cant say i'm surprised really, give with one hand and take with the other, i'd sooner have less speed and not have to monitor usage at all.

Sky has bought easynet which provides a broadband service so i wonder if ntl will rethink the whole topic of caps and speeds.
Sky has obviously bought easynet to enable them tp provide competition to the "whole package" of broadband/tv/phone that they could not provide.

Could be an interesting time ahead.

I want higher download and upload speed with no small cap. I'd be happy with 24mb down and 2mb up uncapped for the same as what I'm paying now for the 3mb with NTL, or £24.99 even... Sound ridiculous? I think this will happen in 2006, and maybe even better deals, who knows? :D

I do, you won't see 2Mbit upload in 2006, nor will you see 24Mbit download without QoS or similar at that price, toooooo cheap :)

Actually they haven't bought them yet, they've made an offer which the board has approved but shareholders need to approve it first.

Though yeah, soon I'll probably be working for Sky :p:

Well i already have Sky and my only complaint ever; its not cheap, and if they do go into Broadband, you can bet it will be competitive, certainly at first.
And will they start streaming their programs through it?
This could totally alter broadband as we know it. They could of course, cock it up totally. ;)

Mines never ever gone off completely, as in its stopped receiving, neither analogue or digital.
Very rarely have i had to switch off the box because of a problem ie froze temporarily, and its only in force 10 gales can you see a bit of interference.
For the years i have been on it, never once have i had to ring up except for a package change, so if they could do the same for broadband...........:)

To be fair to NTL, if it wasnt for this stupid cap nonsense, they would still get my business everytime, the service is good [if you dont need overseas customer support] its always been ok speedwise, and reliability, and the e-mail has been fine since it got sorted. I cant complain about the price either.
But if i get any reduction of speed, even tho i try to watch what we all do, i'm off to the first "do as you like" BB provider, irrespective of cost, 3meg or above.

If only they read this forum.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

i have been with sky from the start, but i did try ntl for a while for the tv. All i got to say is if the easynet deal goes through & sky approach that with the same commitment as they did the tv, then all the other isp's better wake up now & do something before its too late. Dare i mention itv when they quoted they were to big to be worried about sky (about 10 years ago)

No, we'll pay what we do now. It'll just be a case of having different cap levels. :)

(Not sure of the details yet. )

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase

what kind of speed is this?

I'm on the 3mb service and the only reason I looked on nthellworld today was because I had a download going at 1.0mb/s constantly...

Also my ntl modem rebooted itself the other day and required me to reset the routers before it worked again? could it be 10mb on the way?

1st 128K took 140 ms = 936229 Bytes/sec = approx 7789 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 125 ms = 1048576 Bytes/sec = approx 8724 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 141 ms = 929589 Bytes/sec = approx 7734 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 125 ms = 1048576 Bytes/sec = approx 8724 kbits/sec

I live in Hemel and am connected to the luton server, same as the guy a couple of pages back.
