After a "day out’ at Costco and Leeds Crown Point (SWMBO is going through a Crafting phase, so she spent an hour in Hobbycraft and I had a hot chocolate and a bun in a coffee shop near by), the CBA factor was strong in me, so we went to Leeds Deli in Moortown (after dropping Costco sundries at my daughter’s, who lives nearby), and I had a cracking Potato Rosti (well, 2…) topped with Garlic Spinach, sautéed mushrooms, truffle oil, poached egg, grated grand padano cheese, with added Tuscan fennel sausage.

Ribeye freshly cut by the butcher, seared with salt and pepper then left to rest on a garlic thyme rosemary. Iceland vegetable rice steam bag. Mushrooms in a little butter and water.
avocado oils a myth. Waste of time. It was smokey as always. |

It's not that they don't smoke but have a high smoke point and don't denature in extreme heat. I heat my pan without oil until it smokes and put oil on the steak. I also don't put pepper prior to the sear, that can burn. Salt it a good few hours prior to cooking and put in fridge open to dry a bit. One tip was salt either hours before or within minutes of cooking but not between. I like my steaks blue so really hot pan and 1-2 mins per side at most then rest while you prep the rest.

Colonoscopy on Friday, so the "light diet" starts tomorrow, so I made very loaded pizzas for today.
Poached chicken breast with rice tomorrow, then the first liquid pull-through mid-evening. I was advised that it is not the sickly vanilla stuff they gave out last time, but it works just as quickly. "5 yards from the toilet is 5 yards too far" she joked..... |

Half lamb half beef mince (keema), peas and potatoes with plain rice. Muller corner peach and apricot for dessert.

It was going to be mince-and-tatties, but the missus saw the 2 small gammon joints I got at 80p each from B&M, and her eyes lit up.

We had some guests last night. I smoked some ribs but time was a bit short so not as good as I would have liked but very tasty. Also smoked, roast potatoes, smoked chicken, slaw, chimichuri, corn on the cob, cantina beans. Also my new back of charcoal has lots of small pieces not the nice big lumps the last order had. (There are complaints on the website that the pieces are too big but for longer, slow cooks bigger pieces are better. If you want small pieces go but the cheap stuff elsewhere.)
