I hope the 50 to 100M bit will not be traffic shaped. I know it was not before.

The upstream is traffic managed on 50Mb areas that have had their upstream increased and there is P2P and Newsgroup shaping too.

Thanks, I barely get less that 10% upstream.

Then I'd go to work an hour later, come home later, etc. Doesn't work.

I've had nothing but problems with my 50mb service and really miss my super fast reliable 20mb modem and if so far is anything to go by I just don't want the upgrade to either 100mb or 120mb.

Can a customer refuse the upgrade and stay on what they have that works?

You can refuse to use the new hub, but if you have it you can downgrade your package

you cant be on a tier which isnt going to exist. If they are only going to do 30, 60 and 100 then that is it and they are all on docsis 3 with the shub.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

When I had my old modem with 20mb I used to happily play on xboxlive and even video some action to show my mates. (Which I've shown the engineer).. Not a single drop out or problem. I was a happy bunny.

Without going into the full history of my woes with 50mb and the SH. Last week I had the pleasant company of a VM engineer sat on my sofa with my xbox controller trying to play online. Out he'd go (I presume to the green box) and back again and after 2 hours he's given in. He's managed to stop the SH resetting every few minutes and now it's only a few times an hour. He's given me a router and switched it to modem only mode (I was using it like that on an old router anyway lol) and it seems much more stable.

What's worrying me is would an upgrade deteriorate my all ready substandard connection? As I presume both of my next door neighbours will get this upgrade as well and traffic will just get busier. I'd get rid of my vip50 in an instant and downgrade but the engineer seems to think it's down to the docsis change and it's not possible for me to go back to my original docsis (whatever that is) on any package.

So if the tier no longer exists does that mean I am no longer going to be a VIP50?

For customers on 50 and 100Mbit, the only way to avoid the tier increase to 120Mbit will be to downgrade to a lower package

Would point out that areas aren't going to get the upgrade without work being done to support it

When you say "work" do you mean actual physical work to the green box ect'?

I only ask cos our green box has been set fire to and firework bombed and pee'd in and dragged off its base twice!

We are so due a nice new green box that has locked doors on it! I might get a good connection then lol.

(no it wasn't me that did it!)

Virgin is almost certainly aware of that themselves, don't forget that the equipment is expensive.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

There is a seperate cabinet clean up program to resolve those issues, but for the speed increases there will also be work to make sure the network noise is reduced and there is capacity to support the upgrades

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Yes they are aware as I phone em up and report it every time... And fair dues they're out on the same day putting it back together and re-connecting us.

My area was one of the very first to get cable in. I can't remember the company name but it was pre ny-nex I think. I've been a VM customer since day one and aint planning on leaving them but sometimes I think it would be nice to be left alone with what we're happy with or at least given the choice.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

To be fair to Virgin, your problems aren't from upgrades gone wrong, they're from CHAVs with too much free time. At least Virgin fixes them.

Oh and yeah - the cab cleanups, they're a bit of a joke from what I remember, but a necessary one.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Totally agree with you Kushan. And I've seen the poor sods sitting on their little fold away seats in the pouring rain for hours (not the chavs) setting the connections back up. Even took em out a brew I felt that sorry for them... The things you do to get on that top tier lol.

Oh well lets see how it goes it might just sort out everything.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Just in case anyone is wondering why I'm moaning about upgrades.. This is my average speedtest connection.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/02/82.png

As I'm on 50mb I always thought the .5 was 50mb... The engineer say no it's actually only half of 1mb!!! You just have to laff... lol
