not a bad squad :)

I remember him at Birmingham, promised so much and had all the attributes to succeed at the highest level and delivered nothing, think he did better in Italy but not enough to persuade lazio to keep him, he's been involved in some hideous transfer deals as well, think they total about thirty million.

But I hope the owner does. He said after winning, that they learned the lesson.

I am just not sure that paying money for both of those players is wise. that said, i don't own a football club (except my fantasy team, and my choices there are ok :D)

Sadly though its inevitable that he will go to Spurs Cobby as one he is ambitious and two is that his salary will probably be doubled and although Spurs is the wrong club for him in my mind he obviously sadly saw Southampton as just a stepping stone to a bigger club.

LMAO Den.

How does going to a joke club like spurs show any ambition?:rofl:

I rather suspect that if he goes we will find out that the idiot daughter of our benefactor is cashing in and running.

The simple fact is we dont need the money from sales.

If players werent being sold he would stay, hes been offered more money to stay than hed get in north london.

Sadly Julian l like Southampton as a club as they do many things the right way but deep down even Southampton fans have always know that Southampton is generally a selling club and a stepping stone on the way to bigger clubs and Spurs are a bigger club then Southampton and l know that's hard to take but it is a fact that even the most diehard Southampton fans would have to admit.:)

Poyet signs new deal

Published: 28 May, 2014
by Sunderland AFC

Head coach puts pen to paper on extended contract.

Sunderland AFC has announced today that head coach Gustavo Poyet has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light, which will see him remain on Wearside until 2016.

Under his guidance, the Black Cats recorded stunning league victories over Chelsea and Manchester United and did the double over local rivals Newcastle United.

Poyet also took Sunderland to their first major cup final in more than two decades, beating Manchester United in the two-legged semi-final of the Capital One Cup.

Speaking after signing his new contract, Poyet said: “I am delighted to extend my stay with Sunderland AFC, after an unbelievable season and our famous great escape.

"Stability is absolutely key to long-term and sustained success for any football club, and this new contract gives both the club and me that stability going forward.

“Now it's a different challenge for me and the club and I am relishing the next stage with Sunderland. We achieved so much last season, working together - the club and the fans - and we took many good memories from the season.

"The prospect of creating more of those memories is one which excites me, and now I cannot wait for the next chapter in my career and the history of Sunderland AFC."

Sunderland AFC’s sporting director, Lee Congerton, added: “We are naturally delighted that Gus has committed his long-term future to Sunderland. Our plans are well underway in terms of summer recruitment and we are working hard to bring new faces to the squad ahead of the 2014-15 season.”

Poyet’s backroom team of Mauricio Taricco, Charlie Oatway, Andy Beasley (goalkeeping coach) and Antonio Pintus (fitness coach) will continue to work alongside him.

Two players who may be targeted are Siqueira, who is on loan at Benfica, and Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno.

Gomez agrees move

Published: 29 May, 2014
by Stuart Vose

Spanish midfielder to join on three-year deal.

Sunderland AFC has confirmed that Spanish midfielder Jordi Gomez has agreed a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light and will become a Sunderland player from July 1.

The 29-year-old began his career in his native Spain, rising through the youth ranks at FC Barcelona before moving across the Catalonian city to RCD Espanyol in 2007, where he spent two years.

A successful loan spell with Swansea City in 2008 led to a permanent switch to then-Barclays Premier League side Wigan Athletic in 2009, with manager Roberto Martinez signing him for a second time in successive seasons.

During his time at the DW Stadium, Gomez helped the Latics lift the FA Cup in 2013 and scored 11 goals in his last campaign with the club, which culminated in the midfielder winning the Player of the Year award.

Gomez is the club's second new face in as many days after full-back Billy Jones agreed a deal on Wearside having spent the last three seasons with West Bromwich Albion.

Seems strange to me that as captain and most influential player the number of times he gets substituted, especially as he's now in the top class bracket due to fee.

Maybe the plan is for Southampton to sell all its players, then the club...if that happens, i am sure Den will welcome them to Liverpool, and they can still watch the Southampton team :D

There is only one home for him in the PL Den. Man City will try but Wenger wont be able to say no & Fabregas wont be able to no neither imo but we'll see.

Where Utd ?

Cesc Fabregas is one of thee best players developed by Arsene Wenger. Man City have pained Wenger in recent years. Man Utd have pained him. Why now that he has resources and the upper hand would he look the other way?

Wenger is not looking the other way but the challenge of playing for a big Manchester club is hard to resist for him.

United is his likely destination.

Maybe Yaya Toure to PSG for a fiver plus add-ons (20 Lambert & Butler after 40 goals)

Fabregas to City for £30M

Arsenal are set to rule out a move to take Cesc Fabregas back to the Emirates. That could leave the way clear for Manchester City to make Fabregas their top target to replace unhappy Yaya Toure.

I don't believe Arsenal are not interested. Its weird Matt Law reporting that Arsenal will pass on him. Fabregas was in London yesterday, possibly for the fight.

Sport.es say Darren Dein has already met with Wenger..

Arsene also wants Cech & Mandzukic.

That is odd but I would say Fabregas is one of the best players in the world. It's just for some reason Barcelona don't think he fits in anymore.

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Rickie Lambert from Southampton.

The striker, who was on the club's books as a youth player, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds after passing a medical at Melwood.

Moments after signing, the boyhood Liverpool fan said: "I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven't stopped loving it since.

"I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come.

"I know how big Liverpool are - and it means everything to me - but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on."

Lambert arrives from Southampton where he scored an impressive 117 goals in 235 appearances.

He has four caps for England and is part of Roy Hodgson's World Cup finals squad, alongside new club mates Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.

This could just be his agent trying to create noise. The atmosphere at the Emirates would start off very shaky next season if he was allowed to go to Chelsea.
