Poyet signs new deal
Published: 28 May, 2014 by Sunderland AFC Head coach puts pen to paper on extended contract. Sunderland AFC has announced today that head coach Gustavo Poyet has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light, which will see him remain on Wearside until 2016. Under his guidance, the Black Cats recorded stunning league victories over Chelsea and Manchester United and did the double over local rivals Newcastle United. Poyet also took Sunderland to their first major cup final in more than two decades, beating Manchester United in the two-legged semi-final of the Capital One Cup. Speaking after signing his new contract, Poyet said: “I am delighted to extend my stay with Sunderland AFC, after an unbelievable season and our famous great escape. "Stability is absolutely key to long-term and sustained success for any football club, and this new contract gives both the club and me that stability going forward. “Now it's a different challenge for me and the club and I am relishing the next stage with Sunderland. We achieved so much last season, working together - the club and the fans - and we took many good memories from the season. "The prospect of creating more of those memories is one which excites me, and now I cannot wait for the next chapter in my career and the history of Sunderland AFC." Sunderland AFC’s sporting director, Lee Congerton, added: “We are naturally delighted that Gus has committed his long-term future to Sunderland. Our plans are well underway in terms of summer recruitment and we are working hard to bring new faces to the squad ahead of the 2014-15 season.” Poyet’s backroom team of Mauricio Taricco, Charlie Oatway, Andy Beasley (goalkeeping coach) and Antonio Pintus (fitness coach) will continue to work alongside him. http://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2...signs-new-deal :D:D:D |

Gomez agrees move
Published: 29 May, 2014 by Stuart Vose Spanish midfielder to join on three-year deal. Sunderland AFC has confirmed that Spanish midfielder Jordi Gomez has agreed a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light and will become a Sunderland player from July 1. The 29-year-old began his career in his native Spain, rising through the youth ranks at FC Barcelona before moving across the Catalonian city to RCD Espanyol in 2007, where he spent two years. A successful loan spell with Swansea City in 2008 led to a permanent switch to then-Barclays Premier League side Wigan Athletic in 2009, with manager Roberto Martinez signing him for a second time in successive seasons. During his time at the DW Stadium, Gomez helped the Latics lift the FA Cup in 2013 and scored 11 goals in his last campaign with the club, which culminated in the midfielder winning the Player of the Year award. Gomez is the club's second new face in as many days after full-back Billy Jones agreed a deal on Wearside having spent the last three seasons with West Bromwich Albion. http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2...ez-agrees-move ---------- Post added at 20:45 ---------- Previous post was at 20:36 ---------- Liverpool Close to agreeing fee for Ricky Lambert yellow ticker SSN |

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Rickie Lambert from Southampton.
The striker, who was on the club's books as a youth player, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds after passing a medical at Melwood. Moments after signing, the boyhood Liverpool fan said: "I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven't stopped loving it since. "I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come. "I know how big Liverpool are - and it means everything to me - but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on." Lambert arrives from Southampton where he scored an impressive 117 goals in 235 appearances. He has four caps for England and is part of Roy Hodgson's World Cup finals squad, alongside new club mates Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/late...ambert-signing |
