I agree , especially with the amount of Half Price codes knocking about at the moment.

Again l think some of you are overplaying the type of impact it will have on Virgin and they will have planned for these moments.

they may well have planned for it,but they need to make it known what they intend to offer in case thier best laid plans dont bear fruit, because i for one do not intend to pay any extra for bt sport and if there is nothing being added to VIP then the lose of ESPN will degrade VIP to a point where it is no longer viable

My SKY insider, yes I have an insider, confirmed all staff just received 10 codes each earlier this week to give to family and friends. Plenty more will be made available to the general public via the usual money saving websites in the coming months.

Put it this way, the codes will be very accessible to anyone who wants to save a small fortune on pay TV over the next 12 months.

I'm not convinced that BT really want to do a deal.

http://www.digitaltveurope.net/54521...gin-talk-talk/

"BT Retail CEO Gavin Patterson said the firm was still open to doing wholesale deals for its forthcoming sports channels with Virgin Media and Talk Talk, but stressed its strategy wasn’t dependent on it.

Speaking at a BT Sport launch event in London this morning, Patterson said that talks were ongoing with Virgin and would “hopefully continue” in the coming weeks, but claimed it was difficult for the cable TV rival to do a “value proposition” until BT was able to announce details of its sport offering.

“We’ve had similar discussions with Talk Talk as we have with Virgin. Philosophically we’re not against, wholesale, we’d be open to it, it’s really about value – what our perception of the value of it is, and what their perception of the value is, and there’s a gap at the moment,” said Patterson.

Asked whether he could imagine a point where BT would simply walk away from wholesale discussions he added: “Our strategy is not dependent on wholesale. It’s not completely within our control – it’s whether or not we can find the right valuation between us and others. We couldn’t rely on it in that respect, so we’ve built a strategy, we’ve built a business plan that doesn’t necessarily depend on us wholesaling this.”

This sounds very much like the negotiations between Virgin and SKY for SKY Atlantic. That channel launched over 2 years ago and still no sign of it on Virgin.

Gavin Patterson knows how Cable TV works after all he did work for Telewest before he went to BT.

I use to email him to ask him things on Telewest - Way before 'Media Boy' was born.

Really can't see what vm can do to replace espn in the xl pack other than finally get sky Atlantic and I can't see that happening, gonna be the first true test for the new owners to see what they can deliver

Depends if you're a sports fan.
If you're a sports fan, virgin is now far and away the weaker option against Sky.
Lack of HD Sport, no BT as of yet, and crucially more expensive.

Rumour: Virgin can't do deal with BT until July?

Info from Virgin Media Forum tonight:

Hi all we can say at the moment is that we're talking to BT about making BT Sport available to you on VirginMedia at the moment and as soon as we can tell you more we will.
And an Virgin Viewer has confirmed to me that:

I got the same response from both BT and VM. They may have to embargo any new deals until the takeover is complete.

Say VM put the price of XL up by £10, but it now came with Sky Atlantic, including HD and BT Sports - who would be happy to pay that? I'm not suggesting that they will, just curious, as this would certainly tickle some people's fancies.. :D

I suggest that the majority of TV XL customers would be completely up in arms because they don't care a toss for sports.
