Sky lines minimum ping seems to be higher but if im being honest i find it more stable even with the reduction in speed.

That's actually the first time I've seen a Sky graph. To be honest it looks surprisingly bad, much worse than I'd have expected.

That said the yellowness is mostly consistent throughout the night and even lower at peak times, suggesting it's more something systematic causing it and not congestion. Perhaps simply how fast your router responds to pings while idle.

Maybe they use heavy interleaving?

No, interleaving causes lots of green, not lots of yellow.

I've been happy with my connection all the time, ever since I moved up from 50Meg. Always been rock solid... (Touch wood)

Really? I was fearing the worst when changing from Virgin to Sky and im quite happy with it if only the green was lower seeing as i struggle to get into games with 50 ping and lower. As far as interleaving goes they told me it has been reduced to the lowerst they can which is 8ms.

I thought they had a fastpath option with zero interleaving (possibly known as "gamer mode")

No they dont do fastpath but a few on the sky forums have managed to get on it unofficially. The gamer profile is 8ms which im already on.

On the LLU I believe they change the profile to one with reduced interleaving and a lower max delay

Damn. If Sky run compulsory interleaving on all lines I'd be disappointed too. If it's 8ms interleaving then I guess that's in both directions = 16ms in total. Even so, your green is almost exactly the same as mine, and I'm in Scotland (high green minimum because of distance) and I've got 15ms of interleaving too.

BTW the last days Virgin graph actually looked quite decent for me :)

you probably interleaved, thats the down side of xDSL it seems some isp's love interleaving too much to keep support requests down. It should be possible to get it switched to fast path if you want it, which will drop the min latency at the risk of line instability.

edit. read further replies yeah sky I forgot love interleaving, on their LLU they force it enabled although I didnt expect them to have that control on the openreach provided FTTC service.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Shame, that leaves O2/Be as the only fully unlimited provider that allows you full control of SNRM and interleaving that I know of...

... And yes they do appear to have turned to pants :(

Nobody has any control of the interleaving on FTTC at the moment, so Sky has no ability to force it either on or off. Which might be a good thing.
