And for younger drivers cars (anyone under 35), have one of the parents as an additional named driver - that can knock off a bit.

For a not-so-young couple, having each other named on our policies reduces the cost for both of us.

GrimUpNorth 27-07-2024 20:38

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

We were named drivers on our daughters policy back in the day. For some reason adding me as the first named driver and Mrs G as the second gave a lower price than adding Mrs G first and me second.

To be honest if someone was trespassing on my lawn like that I would be seriously stressed and pissed off.

In this case you trespassed and caused the issue.

But you wouldn't call the police as it's not illegal to do that here, you might start watering the lawn but you wouldn't waste police time on it

It's still you being the problem and being on someone else's property! Yes calling the police was a bit harsh but maybe she had had enough with other people.

Seriously? If you found someone lying on your lawn, wouldn't the first thing you did be to check they were OK?

I am kind of interested in the location though. Dude: could you post a link to the place in Google Maps?

Lol, in the US you're lucky they don't shoot you for bending a blade of their grass.
Don't think Dude uses Google maps , he might be able to sketch us a diagram/ crime scene on etchasketch? :)

I believe he was just relaxing on someone's garden(trespassing).

Obviously if someone was lying on my garden motionless I would check to see they're all right.

This is Dude from the US we're talking about, he does things differently.

I'm sick of being stuck at home.I can't walk far at the moment. At the moment I try to walk up and down my street at least once a day but I really need to get out of the house but until I can walk further than that I'm stuck..
My garden is a wreck though not as bad as it was thanks to my immediate neighbour's work in removing a tree too near my house. My son has been made redundant and I can't see him getting another job any time soon or sorting out the garden.Though to be fair he is taking care of me and the housework in the meantime.

At least I can still manage to drive though how far I can walk after parking up is another issue.

Sorry for the moan but I need to vent. It's been a year since my husband passed away so I've not got anyone to moan at.

TV Apps that use fonts that with sets smaller than about 50" you can't read what is on-screen without getting a couple of feet from it.

I've also noticed that what is on a phone screen in a TV film or drama can be part of the plot, but is totally unreadable unless you are using a huge TV set. Subtitles or telescope required?

GiffGaff. Took my o2 number which was disconnected yesterday morning. 24 later I can make calls and send texts but I can not receive either( if you call it says number not recognised) and my data is H+ so 2 meg max. Main concern is I can not receive 2FA so if it isnt fixed I will lose access to my amazon account eventually. Have had to cancel all my subscriptions just in case and worried about keeping Prime on. I may be over reacting and GiffGaff might fix it but it has major triggered my anxiety

A new, not-cheap, top brand toilet seat. And the rear two "feet" that should support the seat are almost a centimetre away from the rim of the bowl.

I called them and was actually told that "the seat will flex as you sit on it, allowing the feet to rest on the rim of the bowl".

If coated MDF will do that I would be shocked. I shall be returning it.

Amazon dont force it, you can just delete your mobile from the account.

Problem with Amazon is the auto sale charges. I know it is unlikely but if there is some sort of breach or you get hacked you account could be compromised and charges run up easily. I do not like Amazon for that

Need to find a new Dentist, part of my rear back tooth has dropped off again that had previously been reworked but because of the COVID period appointments kept getting cancelled for checkups so it's been years since I tried phoning again and I have now been removed as an NHS patient. Luckily there is no pain so I don't believe any root is exposed as it was just a cosmetic repair.

The search now begins and will probably end up having to go private!

I ported the broken number from GiffGaff to Lebara and as expected part of the issue moved with it. I was able to send and make calls but not receive either same as when it started with GiffGaff before they killed it totally. I called and spoke to Lebara CS and he raised it asked relevant questions and within 30 minutes it was fixed something GiffGaff failed to do in 11 days

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

Rotator cuff pain.

As a 50 year old gym-user I’m pretty much resigned to the fact I’m going to pick up new injuries on almost a comical rate regardless of how much stretching I do. I lift heavy so in one way or another I’ve got aches and soreness every day although using my spare wheelie bin as an ice bath helps a hell of a lot.

My gains have plateaued over the last year so I’m adding either a bit more weight or an extra 2 reps to each set and that’s been fine but I’ve overdone it on my shoulders. The recommended treatment for rotator cuff pain is to stop lifting over shoulder level. I’m a stubborn so-and-so and told my doctor I really can’t see myself stop working my shoulders so his advice (on the basis that I refused his initial suggestion) was to lower the amount lifting by 50%.

Naturally I didnt pay attention, instead reducing it by about 25%. It’s made a difference, I don’t need to ice it after each session but he prescribed me Tramadol and it’s doing a hell of a job for about 3 hours at a time.

But when it wears off and the pain returns it’s absolute agony. Yep all self-inflicted but I’m still going to moan about the pain anyway.

Jaymoss 18-09-2024 22:06

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

I feel your pain I have suffered with my shoulders in the past. I feel I am too old to weigh train heavy now so just do relatively moderate weights but focus more on stamina training but make it hard on myself like cycle miles and miles on too high a gear so extra strain on my legs or slow cross trainer with high resistance so working extra legs and upper body. Seems to be working for me

I would have said you’re never too old to lift heavy, it’s more a case of starting off slowly and taking longer to get there but given the achievements you’ve made in your journey, attempting to give you any advice or pointers would honestly make me feel like I’m (inadvertently!) insulting you.

All I could say is just keep doing what you’re doing, your progress is incredible :tu:

Hey Russ - you youngster!! I'm 60 (nearly) but I'm not currently doing a lot of gym work. My membership now has 4 personal trainer sessions a year so I am going to look to push myself a bit.
Targets would be to lose a bit of weight (fat), get fitter so I can bounce with the children at camp (I have 2 years for this) and be able to shoot a heavier bow (shoot 80 arrows in a morning not just pull). Will take some work but having goals and aches will hopefully help.

Would swimming help? Less impact and wear. I've had a few back problems and its great for that. Anything to keep the knackered joints moving.

Swimming is a great exercise, sadly my heart function is not high enough for me to do it according to my cardiac community nurse..

My dad had a council garage, but upon his death it has to go back to them, they will not let me take it over as their policy is spouse or partner.

So now as parking is poor, I'll end up having to park so far from my home I'll have to get a cab home.

Get some traffic cones outside your house and wear one of those hi vis yellow vests. You'll get away with anything with one of those, not just parking. ;)

Some years ago, a couple of colleagues cut down some trees in Leeds city centre and got away with it by wearing some Hi Vis jackets.

The DWP are peeing me off they only car what money I have and not what i'm getting in and paying out, as it stands I'm paying out £200+ more than the UC give me.

I cant reduce my out going, well I guess I could just not buy food.

I spoke to a guy on Friday and spewed out a list of items, none of which I had, when it came to out going he didn't care as it wasn't in his script.

He said speak to my job coach so see what I can claim, the JC said it online, but its impossible to find the right form as I don't rent or have a mortgage, I'm living in my dad's house.

Citizens Advice - they might give you more impartial/useful advice than the DWP.

I know what you mean, I have exactly the same problem with bottles of fresh orange juice from Tesco, they're a pain in the ass to drink out of when attached and harder to screw back on. I also use the kitchen scissors to fix the problem.

You must be using them wrong, lol. I have no issues with them. Lid always folds back and stays whilst drinking and easy to put back on. Though Pepsi bottles still haven't started using them yet.

Twist the top 180 degrees after opening. It stays attached but moves it out of the way.

Lower back playing up. Been bad for a couple of weeks now and feels worse today than it has to date. Getting pretty fed up of it now, and we're off work this week which is even more frustrating. Struggled to put my socks on this morning.

I don't get this, why do people have to walk down the road holding their phone in front of their faces, and have speaker on so that I can hear there conversation.

The DWP is royally peeing me off.

They only care what money I have and don't care I'm paying out over £200 more than I'm getting in.

They they say our mistake means we gave you £252 too much and we are taking it back, so now £250+ worse off.

If I made their mistakes in previous jobs I'd be sacked.

My cars in for its MOT and Service, the rear bushes need doing, but I get a 10% discount as I have a service plan.

They also did an advisory on the tyres despite the fact they are between 3-4.5mm.

I mean that's taking the mick especially at about £250 each

The condition of the sidewalls seems to be more significant than tread depth these days. 2 mechs I know have been told to fail all tyres over 5 years old (the date is moulded onto each tyre).

The irony is the MOT cert isn't worth the ink used.

You could pull out of the service station, the police pull you and deem something a fail.

Self assessment time

Pay a company money for them to tell you you owe HMRC more money after already paying exorbitant amounts of tax, NI and some employers NI for good measure

Grrrrrr

Having to drive to Leeds to see my daughter this weekend. Nothing to do with seeing her, obviously I love that.

It’s the fact I have to drive around the dump known as Leeds. A horrible, dog’s arse of a city to drive around. Whoever designed the traffic system must have been on drugs. The city itself seems to be full of local chavs, this is her final year so I can’t wait for her to leave the place for the final time and I never have to step foot in the rotten dump.

"Certified at the time of inspection". I saw the car before mine pass, drive outside, and we all noticed the brake lights were not working.

Sounds a bit like Derby - a dreadful place to drive around, one way systems everywhere, seems like it was designed by someone on LSD.

For her first year she lived in Central Village which is right in the centre and a proper pain in the arse to get to. It’s like you can see it about 300 yards away but have to drive a mile or so to get to it. Plus it was almost next to one of the hospitals Savile did his stuff at which creeped me the eff out.

She then moved to the other side of Hyde Park, not far from the Emmerdale Studios which is slightly easier to get to but still a bit of a dog rough area. Her flat is nice and the landlord looks after her and the housemates but still not a nice area.

Think most cities gave good and bad areas. Roundhay Park is nice, if you can forget Mr Savilles flat overlooking the playground.

I avoid driving through it, never understood the inner ring system , a motorway that goes past everything but you can't actually get to any of them. Nice view of them though, as you zoom or crawl past.

One of the Yorkshire rippers victims (Irene Richardson) was found in Roubdhay Park near the playground and Saville was actually discreetly questioned about being the ripper as he lived so close, there's a particularly chilling photo floating about of Sutcliffe and Saville chatting away like old pals in Broadmoor and Frank Bruno looking on bemused

I can believe that, I can aso believe Saville and Sutcliffe were a bit to friendly, with hindsight of course, although my dear old mum wouldn't let us watch shows he presented when we were little people as he's weird and creepy.

Interestingly Saville could've been stopped earlier as one of his victims found to courage to came forward and name him as her attacker only to be disbelieved and dismissed as her attacker had dark hair and Saville had bleached his for years (wonder who told them that, him I'd wager), if only they'd bothered to check the wrestling programmes of the time, they'd have seen him with his original dark hair.

Not much is mentioned of his wrestling career, the only things I know about it is Jackie Pallo hated him and Adrian Street had a very stiff match with him

That's my massive moan for the day anyway vaguely attempting to drag the thread back on track

Surely they should send you a letter telling you that you will be removed.

But why do that when they can say we have no appointments for NHS when they can charge a minimum £49
