Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

After my several weeks of having no pets (I've had pets continually since I was 5, so the house feels a little odd without them) after my Westie sadly passed away, I will be getting a cat on Saturday. He is 6 years old, and is good with kids. Unfortunately, his owner is moving to a rented house and is not allowed pets.

We were talking to our neighbours this morning and she had to have her dog put down a couple of months ago and she said l am not sure if l would have another pet because its so upsetting when you lose them but lo and behold her new dog popped out of her front door this morning and its 9 months old and called poppy.:)

Good luck with your new pet Stuart.

Wishing you many happy years with your new cat Stuart, I love cats but unfortunately I'm allergic to cats. In fact I love all animals when I got Keane from the cat and dog home I could have taken them all home. I would love to get a retired greyhound and give it a loving home we'll see watch this space.

Wishing Ben a speedy recovery joglynne, it's not nice when our loved pets go through an operation or just not themselves. You take care to jo and try and not worry, hope Ben enjoys his cream he deserves the treat.

I had a really hard reading this morning, but with a lot of hell from VoiceOver I managed ok :)

That is a nice puppy indeed :)

Although I did not get this bungalow at least it means I won't have to live near the ex so not all is bad ;)

All in all the week started pretty bad but it's ok now.

Glad you had a good time this morning. Always knew you would be good in this type of situation. Your sincerity shines through everything you do. <hugs>

My extra happiness is that I have my keyboard back. Which ever key I touched froze up my laptop. Very frustrating but my fantastic son remotely took over the dang machine and sorted out what was happening. Watching my screen whilst he worked his magic had my eyes like saucers. I can't believe how fast he types and seeing the recovery programs he used was fascinating.

Clever son you have joglynne, glad he managed to fix your problem. :)
If anything goes wrong with our laptops/computers it is off to the repair shop for us which can be expensive to say the least.

I put my house on the market and sold it in 24hrs, I was a little worried at that speed as we hadn't found another house yet as there are hardly any around in my area, however we viewed 1 on Sunday and had our offer accepted yesterday!

Now hoping it won't go pear shaped as it is the perfect house for what we can afford.

Fingers crossed for you SnoopZ that all goes well, I'm sure it will. I know selling and buying houses is very different in England as to compared to Scotland as once the offer is accepted and missives signed very little can go wrong in Scotland.

No worries, sometimes it pays to complain. A bus on Saturday didn't come into where it is supposed to start the route, I got in touch with Arriva through Twitter and they told me they have CCTV on buses now and if I gave them details they would look into it and speak to the driver concerned.

Another enquiry from a new client, actually my old boss from years back, he's now a consultant with another company but this job is my speciality so he's put it my way. :) (Switched mode power supplies)

Couple of days of consultancy: Design study of an existing product, mainly a cost saving exercise, and write a report. Possible ongoing redesign work.

This summer's getting really busy. Makes a change from last autumn that was completely dead. Guess this is the recovery. :)

Well, this week cannot end quick enough for me. Terrible hay fever, then a migraine and now spent 2 hours in A&E because my left eye was very blurred. Doctor checked and nothing wrong with retina thank Christ. Now to get some sleep, didn't sleep much last night at all worrying about it.

I recommend the rollercoasters in New York New York hotel and on top of the Stratosphere hotel just to say you've done them. Also the helicopter tour over the strip at night time.

If you like cars, then the museum under the Imperial Palace is quite good. Fremont Street at night, The Luxor is neat too, so are all the others basically. There's so much to do and see so I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you do.

During the day it's all a bit surreal, but at night it is an amazing place.

If you're not venturing away from Vegas then I'd highly recommend the Vegas to Grand Canyon helicopter tour, once in a lifetime trip.

Went to Fremont Street last night, old fashioned Vegas. Done the Grand Canyon today, just waiting for Mrs G to get out of the shower then we're planning to go to New York New York and try the rollercoasters, I want to try the zipwire from the top of the Stratosphere but Mrs G doesn't feel the same way!

Thanks for the suggestions, here till Friday with a couple of free days so keep them coming.

Cheers

Had an excellent weekend - drive down to Hampshire Friday night, back yesterday afternoon for a get-together with family.

We had relatives from France, Switzerland, USA, Canada, and from all over England for my bro-in-law's belated 60th birthday celebrations - ate in a marquee in the garden, then spent the rest of the day in garden sports (swing ball, touch rugby, etc).

A good time was had by all.

Little place called Shalden Green, near Alton.

Additional happy thought - just returned the hire car (Ford Galaxy, as we needed room for six and luggage); I got nearly 45 miles to the gallon for the 550 mile round trip result! :)

Yes we remember Alton well as its railway is part of The Watercress Steam Railway Line which the whole family visited about a year and a half ago.:)

Plenty of overtime at hubby's work, after being told jobs were unsafe "and the worry it caused our household" they made cutbacks and now they need to offer the remaining employees overtime as the manpower ain't there no more to meet the needs of contracts etc. Sad for those who lost their jobs, glad it was not hubby's but tbh it makes no sense to me as the work is obviously there.

MalteseFalcon 17-06-2014 17:56

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Unfortunately these days it is all about profit and the bottom line. More people to pay equals less profits equals job cuts equals existing staff have to work harder for longer for little or no extra pay to keep standards up.

Store I was at for work placement last year now exists on a bare skeleton of paid staff and apparently he rotates people on work placement every 8 weeks. Takes 8 on, and then in last week of their placement gets a new wave inducted ready to take over for a fresh cycle.

Still, they are opening up a new store in the same town and will be looking for quite a few warehouse people, manager has promised to put in a good word for me if I apply for the job once they get a store manager in place.

Off to Temple Newsam Park for a day of retro 80s flashbacks - Let's Rock Leeds.

Should be fun - got four VIP tickets for me, SWMBO, and the in-laws; some alcohol may be imbibed......

Just had a letter from our insurers to let us know that the driver who rear ended us at traffic lights at the beginning of April has at long last admitted his liability to his insurers. :)

Brilliant new's joglynne, I do not understand why people lie in the first place makes me so mad when someone cannot admit fault  Do they not realise the added stress they cause.

He didn't lie weenie, just refused to respond. Apparently it's the newest fiddle to get out of the knock on effect on your insurance. Unless there is any personal injury or third party claim involved insurance companies seemingly only try to get the other company to accept liability for a limited time then just make you liable regardless of whether it was your fault or not.

I think the reason the other driver finally owned up was because our claim against his not inexpensive Trade Car Insurance for his Vehicle Repair business was at risk of being jeopardised and the fact that I provided his insurers with a photo of him stood in front of our damaged car. The latter was pure luck but I will certainly make sure I get a similar photo if we are ever unlucky enough to have another car accident. Just wish I had thought to make a video of him verbally admitting he was at fault.

Oh sorry I just assumed he was blaming you. Joglynne hindsight is a wonderful thing but that was a really good idea the picture taking. I wish you carefree motoring now and always ;)

Got the barbecue out for later. Meat is defrosted, chilli burgers, touluse sausges and teriyaki chicken kebabs, and the sides are ready to roll. Just taking in some rays before we get started. :Sun:

We went away for the day to Moffat, quite a warm day but the sun never came out as we thought. Had a nice Fish Tea

Did you buy any Moffat Toffee Nashville? Moffatt is lovely hope you enjoyed your day. Hubby and his friends go a motorbike run there just to get a fish tea, when we go I insist on a cream tea then off to the sweet shop for some Moffat Toffee.

Weenie, Never tried the toffee. Must do the next time. I noticed there is always some beautiful motor bikes there at times,
