Re: TiVo

With Amazon rumoured to want to buy Netflix in the the US I can see them wanting to become the biggest player in the video streaming world and I can see their takeover of Lovefilm being a step closer to doing a deal with Virgin. For them that would be a quick and easy way to get access to 3+ million subscribers.

There aren't 3 million with TIVO though.

No but they could offer a streaming service and a VOD service and use the opportunity to advertise to customers.

Over time, yes, when everyone gets upgraded to TiVo by Virgin over the next 3 years or so.

As for Netflix, they (along with Hulu?) will have to contend with the maze of broadcasting rights over here, Netflix can't just show imports like say, NCIS, days in the UK days after being shown in the States due to existing broadcast contracts with FX/Five.

Doubtful as even now we have 10 year old boxes on the system so the will always be a lower tier of television service.

A very costly plan then and I expect once the sums are done a shelved plan.https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/06/21.gif

I can't see VM having 2 TV firmware systems in the long run, would be a nightmare for CS to deal with I imagine.

When one of the old boxes breaks down, wouldn't VM swap them with the V HD (TiVO compatible) boxes as time goes by?

I think the cost may be an issue but in practice a great idea.

Hope it happens it would be cool to be able to search movies on linear TV , Filmflex and Lovefilm as I would imagine now Amazon own it they would have many more blockbusters available to stream ( Lovefilms stream offerings aren't great currently)

Also there prices are good in the US

I would imagine if lovefilm came to tivo you would also need a lovefilm account as we do to allow us too play films from lovefilm through our blu ray player.

Just had a look through all the Tivo guides and the quick start.
Virgin have added a new 'Messages' portal for customers to keep up to date on the happenings with the TV service. That's great in my opinion!

It would be beneficial to get it on the current system as it would be of great help to customers to keep track, especially with all the channel close-downs, and movement of shows that is currently happening.

I think Digital Fanatic and Media Boy should be given 'create new message' permissions for that portal. ;)

That is pretty much the plan, its also for notifications from such things as Remote Record and well, there are other things that will be able to be "pushed" by it obviously.

If you look at amazon.com they offer on demand films on a pay per view basis.
