LS13 (west Leeds) now upgraded! Woohoo, and doh.

Connected directly to my modem I get good speeds: -

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2008/07/9.png

Test 1: 1024K took 843 ms = 1214.7 KB/sec, approx 10009 Kbps, 9.77 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 860 ms = 1190.7 KB/sec, approx 9811 Kbps, 9.58 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 843 ms = 1214.7 KB/sec, approx 10009 Kbps, 9.77 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 1719 ms = 1191.4 KB/sec, approx 9817 Kbps, 9.59 Mbps

However connected (wired or wireless) through my router I only get: -

Using Linksys WRT545g (running DD-WRT Firmware). Would have assumed that router should have enough grunt for 10Mbit. Wonder if the extra load of the custom firmware breaks its back?

Even when you get the Upgrade you will only get 6Mb because you refuse to get a Modem, so you will see a 2Mb increase only.

-------------------------------

You would be better calling up Customer Services and asking for an upgrade to a Stand Alone Cable Modem as with your present Samsung box you can only receive 6Mb but with a SACM you can upgrade if you wanted to 20Mb, plus you would get a better connection.

The should be quite happy to upgrade you as the company would prefer all customers to swap to SACM.

Call Customer Care not Faults because they would have to transfer you as they cannot change your account.

Customer Care - 150 (Options 1 then 3)

WDINAT, I'm well aware of the above and have discussed it at length on CF but thanks for reiterating.
When the speed increase shows, I'll make the change over. Not prepared to do so until it does.

I know because I was one that posted about it previously, and it is better to do it sooner as the upgrade is can cause issues with some STBs and you could lose the connection.

It is better to call 150 now than call 151 after the upgrade because your connection is lost, I am giving you a head's up here for your own benefit.

Just had a tinker with my settings and noticed I had the router logging everything. Turned logging down and now getting a bout 7mbps, so I guess it's a firmware-being-too-clever-for-the-hardware issue. A little tuning required I think...

And I appreciate it - I did say thanks.. ;) but right at the moment losing the connection wouldn't bother me in the slightest, seriously. I'm only here to take my mind off something else.
Cheers for the shout. I'll get round to it as soon as I get the chance.
For curiosity's sake - can you tell me whY the upgrade would/could screw up the STB?

I am not saying it just to get you to swap, the seems to be an issue with some and definitely not all STBs, that when they get provisioned by Virgin that the signal can knock them off, and the customers get a bit miffed by this.

Remember when you get the upgrade to call 150 as they are the ones to put a modem on to your package not Tech Support.
