I can't understand why so many people keep on moaning about Sky Atlantic not being on Virgin or any other TV platform when all you need do is get a Now TV box with a entertainment pass and hey presto you've got Sky Atlantic!

Sony have a tv service playstation vue, wether or not it'll launch in uk is a matter of wait and see, they certainlt want to launch in uk.

A but like TV Player then? I can't see Vue getting the Sky channels though as Sky will just want people to subscribe to Now TV or Sky directly.

I agree. But some people want every service on one box. I think some are waiting for the next VM box and hoping it has a built in DVR/Bluray player :D

Actually, Bluray/DVD players are an option for people; it's a device most people have. I have a few years old LG bluray player that has Now TV, Amazon and Netflix on it.

Sony have a few more bargaining chips though than talk talk and virgin such as a nice offer for SKYs next reneweal of Sonys movies etc.
But who knows lol.

Sorry, Andrew, I don't understand the relevance of that argument. I am a Virgin TV customer, and I get Now TV through my smart TV. What difference would it make to Virgin if Now TV Entertainment Pack was an app on their offering? Well, it would stop the complaints about the lack of Sky Atlantic, for one thing, as well as satisfying Malone's objective of providing maximum content without necessarily acquiring the rights to it himself. The presence of Netflix and Hayu on the VM platform are an examples of this strategy.

The advantage for Sky is that it increases its revenue, as Virgin viewers will have the option of paying them £6.99 pm for basically just two extra channels!

The fact that Sony doesn't have a wholesale deal with Sky or sell broadband are red herrings and make absolutely no difference in relation to the argument I am putting forward.

No, it's the basic 720p HD picture quality, which doesn't look at all bad on my TV.

Unless it's changed, live channels are SD and catchup 720p. Given I don't ever watch live channels, I always get 720p

On certain devices Live Channels are 720p.

As well as the inconvenience, it's the extra cost.

To get SA VM customers have to pay extra for two basic channels, whereas Sky customers don't, making the VM offering with Now TV added on financially less attractive.

Well I've paid £100 for the year and get 22 extra channels (sports excluded) over my VM sub but I hardly ever watch those channels live, I prefer to use catchup

On my Freeview compatible smart box all Now TV live channels seem to be 720P but like you I don't watch it live except for sports

And what's to say Virgin don't put the price up considerably if Sky Atlantic arrived? I suspect they would!

They would have to if Sky were insisting on a high price for it. The advantage there would be if Now TV was on the Tivo/V6 (rather than part of a package of channels) - only those who wanted it would pay for it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Why would Sky even bother with the development time to bring an app to VM TiVo when most of its channels can already be received through VM anyway and the Now TV box is available for peanuts for anyone to purchase.

Do you really think VM would want to add an app what promotes a direct relationship for it's customer with Sky ?

At this stage it's complete fantasy land in my opinion.
