Exactly.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it's a legal requirement to have a release clause in a contract in Spain. When a club buys a player they don't intend selling them on again so just put a stupid number for the clause. It's only players that come through the youth systems that are likely to have reasonable release clauses. They don't ward off interest as we have seen, they are pointless and people read into them far too much.

They don't ward off interest if the selling club accepts a cut fee or gets done for if the release clause is cheap, youth growth.. the latest example being Thiago to Bayern.

Arsenal can afford it but will they? my opinion is its unlikely. a lot of people think Suarez may push things along with a transfer request after these talks.
