That's good to hear Paul. My thoughts tonight are with my friend who is preparing herself mentally for a triple heart bypass operation on Saturday. Being picked up 6am ish by taxi tomorrow, driven to a London private hospital for operation. Several days being cared for in London before once again being brought home by taxi. I asked about carers for when she got home, she says there are none available. Luckiy another of her friends has stepped up and is willing to stop overnight with her for as long as required. If this friend was not able to do this, the operation would have to have been cancelled. All this on the NHS. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
'Triage' is the latest buzz word.
To give the impression of doing something, but reality doing nothing/delaying/fobbing you off. As useful as a bot.... ( will send this to the Oxford English dictionary, as i like to help them out ;) ) |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
We use Triage at work all the time, and have for many many years. ;)
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
Triage has been used by the military for many years to allocate medical treatment when resources are limited: Three groups: Those who will survive if not treated, those who will die even if treated and those who will survive only if treated.
Only the third group gets priority. |

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
My niece told me that her ex, had been cheating on her and she's devastated upon finding out, to the point she doesn't want to go back to the flat to get the last of her things. But she will.
So when the 27th of February comes she, she will delete her number, and have nothing more to do with her. Also my sisters friend had a mental breakdown on Friday and admitted to hospital overnight, but released the next day, she went home and her son had left a cup and plate on the side she git angry and smashed them and told him to get out. he called my sister (who he said was family to him) she said have you got anywhere to go and offered her sofa, but he has friends who might help, but he will probably stay with his dad. She's had a rough time, her hubby cheated on her (now divorced), her daughter who has CP, last week was diagnosed with epilepsy, so she hit breaking point. So my sister will help were she can, but doesn't want to get involved in the politics of her friend and her ex husband. |

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
With PKD (Polycystic kidney disease) it mimics the pain of kidney stones as the cysts grow. Sadly it is now a common symptom for me. I'm learning to live it with now.
But that's nothing compared to Parsonage-Turner syndrome (PTS). The pain was so bad, so prolonged I wanted to cut my own arm off and would have, other than that I came close to jumping off a bridge. What stopped me was over 3 years of continuous joint morphine and oxycodone. I still get a lot pain in my arm/shoulder but I now live in fear of feeling that kind of pain again. Because of that I now no longer have functionable (right) arm due to it. |

People who have paid National Insurance all their lives are rewarded with a higher State Pension. Just £2.80 extra per week more than people who didn't, and have to claim Pension Credit.
Those on Pension Credit also can get reductions on rent, Council Tax, dental treatment, get glasses vouchers, free TV licence if they are over 75, and warm homes discount and cold weather payments. And if they are Unpaid Carers, they can get money for that, whilst those who get Full State Pensions are denied Carers Allowance and have to do the care for nothing. Something went wrong somewhere! |

The neurologist I saw in December wants me to have some MRI's (I am seeing him for two issues at opposite ends of my torso. I told him that my pacemaker leads were incompatible but he insisted.
I got BUPA approval and let him make arrangements. He favoured a unit in Basingstoke as they have a more open scanner. Nothing. Then I get a message that Basingstoke can't take me as they can't deal with pacemakers and that they will now book with Spire (Southampton), all quiet. Eventually I get in contact with his private secretary and she finds an email in the wrong box about the Spire and she deals with it. Message from Spire, they need a copy of my pacemaker "certificate". So I scan it and email to them. They can't open the attachment can I send a PDF. It is a PDF. So I email it from my PC, no good. I email it to work. OK. I email from work, no good. Finally I use GMail web interface CC to work. I get it OK at work and finally they get it. Sorry we can't do an MRI because although your pacemaker is OK the leads aren't, passing back to consultant for alternative imaging. |

Being billed over £2k for vet bills. They waived a (small) fee because they were being underhanded which they've apologized for. Then they emailed back and asked for a payment £1.44 for a tin of cat food. I ain't knocking it, I just find it all comical. Still, wasn't sure it was right to put it here as "pet" hates or in the joke section.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
HMRC!!!!
Just received a letter, stating I owed them a reasonable sum in unpaid tax for 2018-2019 (the year I retired, and started taking some of my pensions). It was a follow-up to a letter I received exactly one year ago, about the same subject/amount, which I believed I had resolved (error on one of my pension providers, who had wrongly sent info to HMRC stating I had received a pension lump sum, which I hadn’t). So, this time last year, I contacted the pension provider, who emailed me back stating they had reversed the incorrect EYU (Earlier Year Update) and sent it to HMRC, and when I checked my HMRC online account two weeks later, the incorrect payment (and the matching tax liability) had gone, so I obviously assumed the issue was resolved. Lo and behold, a letter arrives today from HMRC, telling me to pay up tout-suite (a year later), otherwise it may get passed to a credit collection agency. I rang HMRC (first attempt was 53 minutes on hold, got through to an advisor, and about 4 minutes into the call, the line went dead and I was disconnected) - second attempt on hold for 51 minutes, got through to an advisor, explained the issue, and he said he could see the issue hadn't been resolved, and the tax liability was still outstanding. He couldn’t explain why there was nothing on my personal tax account on their system, but there was on their’s, so he is sending me (by snail mail) the information they have (which I can’t see). The amusing (for lack of a better phrase) was the fact they want payment within 28 days of postage date (15th March), but the info being sent to me could take up to three weeks to arrive (considering their earlier letter took 6 days between date of issue and date of arrival, probably quite realistic). Contacted the pension provider, explained the situation, now waiting to hear back from them. The challenge is that there is no way to contact HMRC PAYE people except by phone, as emails can’t be sent/received to/from them with supporting evidence, and there is no postal contact info… |

You know it's not going to be your day when today is the end of term, the executive head is doing a special assembly, I've done sound check, checked Microphones, laptop all setup, everything working like a charm, and then when all is about to happen and the moment comes..... the system basically says to me "I'm shutting down, screw you" and it dies on me. 600 kids and staff looking at you wondering wtf whilst you are slowly wishing for a hole to swallow you up and can sense your hair turning slightly grey with stress. Got it going in the end, but really don't need that on a Friday. |

They said they would send a new security PIN, which did not arrive. Second call we made yesterday, answered once again the never ending questions, he said he would send another code. Code came today with no in structions on how to use it, 45 minutes after speaking to yet another Bank person and getting absolutely nowhere, I asked to speak to their line manager, someone came on the line and said they were unable to hear us and for us to call back. Our nearest branch is 16 miles away and we have no car. Time to change banks me thinks. :banghead: |

When you call your bank, or some similar company that holds GDPR or sensitive data on you, you need to enquire about something and they say “Is it ok if we just pass some security questions first?”
What an absolutely pointless question. It’s not even as if they’re sounding polite. If you need to pass a data protection question before going any further then it’s not like you can say “no”. Behave and simply tell me that “you just need to go through data protection first”. Under no circumstances should this ever be a question, it’s an absolute requirement!! |

Being B12 deficient. Jabs every 12 weeks, but week 9-12 are so hard going with extreme fatigue. I've got 3 days to go till my next jab and seems like I'm now counting down the minutes as it's that bad.
Being deaf is hard enough. But when you have to ask someone to repeat themselves once or twice (mainly twice), they'll say something like 'Oh it doesn't matter' or 'never mind' really makes me want to rip their faces off. Lastly, are hospitals (and not just hospitals) now using VoIP phones, as my last consultation over the phone, I think I managed to understand about half of what was said as the quality was so bad. This should not be allowed to happen. Ranting over... |

I was having problems with my 12 weekly B12 jabs and resorted to buying B12 SL spray which didn't work as well as the jabs but I wasn't quite as tired. Last year when my GP who administers the jabs, yet again, refused to even consider reducing the frequency I managed to convince my Consultant that my already limited quality of life was being made worse. I now have 9 weekly jabs and the difference they have made to my energy levels was well worth all the badgering I had to do. Just wish I had gone to him sooner. My husband is officially classed as deaf and lip reads but wears hearing aids to boost what little hearing he has. Despite asking that people face him he struggles to follow conversations when we are in a group or when someone looks away. When he has to ask people to repeat what they have said they turn to me and treat him as though he is thick grrrrrrr. Bad enough when it's people who don't know him but when it's a GP !!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness that people who know him well have no problem and that he has a sense of humour. As for phones, I haven't noticed any problem with VoIP calls but why won't people use our land line. The GP and Hospitals are increasingly doing phone reviews and they all have clear instructions only to use our mobile in emergency situations unless it's about me but ignore the request. John cannot hear a mobile phone conversation, hates even the idea of having to use one to even text, so he doesn't have one. (entrenched 80 year old technophobe mode :D ) Our landline has amplified sound and a flashing light that alerts him to incoming calls. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8
Thanks Jo.
I've tried to get my B12 done sooner, such as 9 weeks, but they wanted a blood test and it came back at 'satisfactory' - whatever that means. But I will be hassling them again to get it done sooner. I can't take anything else like supplements as nothing else will work as had my ileum removed. So thanks for this info. I totally get what you say when people talk to you instead of your husband as it happens to me all the time too. Most of the time I have to rely on my wife to act like an interpreter and relay everything that's being said back to me. As for the phone, I've lost count the amount of times I've asked for them to call on the landline only, and 9/10 it gets ignored. I'm thinking about removing my mobile number from their lists now. The call in question was really bad, I do live in a bad area for mobile signal so I did ask for them to call me back on the landline which they did, but it made no difference. |

In just about any gym there’s usually either someone selling or knows someone who can get hold of steroids, pretty much a fact of life. And these people assume if you’re lifting weights then you obviously want to be “massive”. I’m not massive, I’m happy with my build.
When I go to the gym, I can’t stand it when other people are there. But, they’ve paid their membership like I have so what can you do. Well what I do is avoid contact with anyone and keep myself to myself. 100% antisocial (except when the other half comes). Anyway this morning I can see one guy trying to catch my eye, grab my attention. As such I try even harder to ignore him but no, undeterred he comes over mumbling about how my physique looks good “but you easily make it bigger and better” and pulls out a small vial of liquid saying “2 of these for £60 and you’ll look great for the summer”. Cheeky fecker, I already look good. I tell him I’m not interested and he goes “ok ok, £50 then”. Dumbass thinks I was trying to haggle? I’m not interested in any gear! Stop asking me if I want to buy any  |
