It looks as though the launch on Virgin of the Paramount channel may simply be delayed, but this article is a little vague on what has happened. Maybe a technical issue in the rush to launch.

Have to say I fail to get excited about the prospect of a new channel if it's not in HD

The Freeview picture for Paramount Network is poor for a SD channel when I looked earlier.

I wish HD was backwards compatible, so no need for a HD channel, it will just downgrade to SD.

That way channels just need to launch 1 channel not 2.

Channels can be downscaled. If you have an analogue output on an STB it is downscaling to provide that output (similar to ICT systems used in the DVD market). Channels usually launch in SD only due to cost. HD uses more bandwidth so costs the broadcaster more.

Well, look at that, and at no extra cost, too! Well done, Virgin Media! This confirms the information I was given a few months ago that VM were in negotiations with several providers regarding UHD content. This is the start of the implementation programme.

Good news :tu: although whether it will be at no extra cost remains to be seen...

Also seems to confirm BT Sport HD continuing as part of XL/Full House.

"BT Sport 4K UHD will be included in Virgin TV Full House and VIP bundles, while Virgin TV customers already taking BT Sport will get the channel automatically added at no extra cost. "

A press release is a bit like a politician mentioning what they want you to hear and leaving the bits out which are more unpalatable.;)

You have heard of price rises by stealth SP?.
