Why would they not want their image captured ? What are they hiding ....
As you also noted, every doorbell cam I've seen would record them anyway, so the advice is nonsense.

Well turns out they are only going to refund £2.50 postage, it cost me £16.85. I know ridiculous, but it was a neighbour who took it down to the Post Office for me. :erm:

I know this is off no help now but you can arrange pick ups for quite large parcels for cheap online. I know Evri is rubbish and I would not recommend them but for £17 you can send something quite massive Parcel Monkey for example quote for various services and a UK to UK 3KG Parcel rangers from as little as £7. Evri collected is £8.39

Parcel Force do a 10KG 50cm x50cm x50cm parcel collected for £12

My own stupidity…..

Assembles new Christmas tree has built in lights so connects all wires
Plug plug into mains,nothing
Checks all connections, still nothing
Notices button on plug presses, nothing
Sits staring for ten minutes wondering what’s going on
Suddenly realises plug is plugged into a smart plug
Checks power status of plug in app
Cries a bit inside

I hope I can improve it further by telling you I’ve just worked out that repeatedly pressing said button on power pack changes the light pattern and brightness

Bedside radio has broken. It's the tuning cord that connects the front knob to the pointer and tuning capacitor. It's quite old Bush VTR178 so I need to work out how to dismantle it to get to the relevant bits.

Quite a sentimental bit of kit as it was the first thing I bought when I started to work for money in a shop aged 16. Amazing how it survived.

You're not alone. I put the lights up on the garage a week or so ago and started cursing when only half a of them worked. I then noticed the button that made them do all sorts of wonderful things. Its only the 5th year I've put them up.

Just because the devices are "smart", doesn’t mean the owners are… ;)

Alexa certainly isn't smart. I've posed her lots of philosophical questions and her answers are sadly lacking. Humans will always be the smartest (xmas lights excepted ;) )

My Alexa is deaf, I sometimes have to ask twice, other times she says 'I don't know that one' when I haven't even asked her anything. Maybe she is related to Mr Tink :D

Mine talks to the TV. I'm thinking of changing her name to Ziggy in the hopes that stops the TV triggering her.

It wouldn't be so bad if John realised he couldn't join in the conversation between her and the TV. It gets a tad surreal at times with John being deaf and asking the TV and Alexa to repeat things. :D

I tried to use 'Ziggy' but because I'm deaf I have a speech impediment so the damn thing doesn't want to listen or can't understand me at all. If only I could choose my own word but it would be something I couldn't write here that's for sure. For me they are frustrating.

You can also use Echo or Computer. Maybe one of those would work for you. The Echo version only being 2 syllables may work. I set "Echo" up for a friend who had problems with the name Alexa and since I did the dang thing works for her.

Just go with someone else, it's usually cheaper than renewing with the same company.

Actually it had only increased by £1.20 and eventually I got sorted out. The issue was getting it changed to be in my name. We will see how this year goes and then see if I can get a better deal next December.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. Turns out Mr T has had a stroke and has a blood clot on the brain, the part that controls speech. They are going to contact Derriford about a procedure to remove the clot, then he will need therapy to regain his speech.:bigcry:

I've had a pretty crap last few days. In my union role I've been supporting a member who is now receiving end of life hospice care (maybe hours, days at most). They're only in their 30's and it's really shitty. Have been working with HR to make sure we get the best pension pay out (ill health retirement or death in service). It's 9 years ago today I lost my mum so altogether I'm feel pretty miserable. And I've got a bit of a hangover this morning.

In my naivety I thought the pre order Turkey prices might come down to match everywhere else on home delivery. But no my order come and the Turkey is almost twice the price as everywhere else Tesco Morrisons Aldi Lidl everywhere.
I hardly ever leave the house due to health problems otherwise I would have rejected it and gone and bought a cheaper one elsewhere
That's ASDA Price for ya

Ectopic heartbeats.

Been having them on and off for about 30 years. Sometimes I’ll get them every 2 minutes for about 2 weeks then I won’t get any for 6 months or more.

They don’t make me feel unwell, there’s no pain etc, they’re just downright annoying.

I even used to get them when I was training for half marathons. I’d go and see my GP about them and even bought an Apple Watch 7 to record them on an ecg but the Doc would say they’re just benign. Ok I guess I can’t argue with my GP and even saw a cardiologist who said the same almthoug apparently every gets them from time to time i have never heard of anyone getting them as often as I do when I get these bouts of 2/3 weeks.

My heart appears to be in good nick for my age (although not as strong as it was 10 years ago when I would only do running) and although my cardio is limited to about 20 mins on the cross trainer at the gym I still get the little buggers.

Hope it isn't too bad Jay. You're the 3rd person I know this xmas with it. Strange as no one I know caught it when it was at it's peak.

My moan. Not a good time to get a flare up, with all the Christmas food etc and zero appetite, it's hard to get anything down and to keep it down.

My new meds that were a lot of hassle to get aren't working as well as I hoped and now causing a bit of a problem. So got to wait till next Tuesday to sort out. Totally gutted as I pinned a lot of hope on them. Apart from my old ones which aren't that great there isn't any other alternative either.

I believe you have to contact the seller first about your complaint, and if you get no joy ask Ebay to step in with their money back guarantee.

I'll try again tomorrow. At least I don't need to use the car until next weekend.

I have gone directly to ebay. Leave negative feedback ad it asks if there us a problem and you raise a case. Only do this when I am particularly annoyed at being ripped off

Dude111 01-01-2024 07:12

Well JAy he did say "Less then diserable condition" but he didnt say the knobs would fall off easily... (He had the knobs on in the photo)

I was thinking of putting some glue on to hold them on,would that work?? (My dad doesnt think so)

Not really. That's more to treat atrial fibrillation and I only had the incident once about 11 years ago.

Our oldest dog (peppy pot) an eighteen year old Jack Russell/staffy cross had to be put to sleep on Saturday. She had been going downhill since Christmas and we knew it was coming. Vet diagnosed multi organ failure due to age and said we would have her about another week but she would become more and more confused & irritated. But she wasn’t in pain at that time.

She sat on SWMBO’s lap whilst the vet gave her the injection, looked into SWMBO’s eyes and then just went to sleep.

Heartbroken, absolutely heartbroken

Thinking of you at this sad time.

The kindess and hardest things we can do for a dearly loved familiy companion is too let them go when the time is right for them.

It's so hard to deal with, and I feel your pain, but peppy pot went gently in the arms of her family and this has got to be a comfort to you both as you remember her in the coming weeks.

Jo xx

It’s insanely difficult to go through this. But there’s so many dogs that need a home and the old or the smelly or the bumpy lumpy ones often get so overlooked. I have absoloutely no doubt that in a couple of months time (or possibly less) SWMBO will come back with the next one or two that need their forever home.

Agreed…

We’re on our second rescue dog (previous pooch was a collie/lab/?? mix, and lived to 15), and the current methane producer is 15 later this month, but we’re not confident he’ll reach that milestone, due to various ailments…

We’ve agreed we’ll have a couple of years off, as we’ve got a couple of road-trips we’d like to do before I hit 70 in 3 years - probably get another rescue after that.

Some keys on my PC's wireless keyboard have stopped working. Fitted new batteries and a reset.

Generally all the same area so I guess a scan line has packed up. I'll need to open it up and see if there's a dry joint somewhere.

If push comes to shove I do have a conventional wired keyboard that I could use.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates - Part 8

Where do I start.

As you may know I'm my dad's full-time carer, on Monday he go out of bed to use the commode, and as I got into bed he had bad diarrhoea, and I put him on the commode to clean him, but he then wanted to get back in to bed, but had no strength in his legs, and said he would flop on to the bed.

That was a disaster, so now he's kneeling on the floor, and can't move. I pressed the emergency button and someone was coming to help, I also called mt sister who came over. The guy tried and couldn't get him back into bed, so a lift team was send for, but this took 2 hours and my dad had to lie on the floor. The lift team managed to get him back to bed. He was put on a virtual ward.

On Tuesday I popped to my charity while my sister sat with our dad, my sister called me home so i left, we got a call from the VW and they wanted to admit our dad, but the ambulance crew did their test and said his states are OK, and my dad didn't want to go into hospital.

So in the end he stayed at home a 2 carers 4 times a day was arranged.

Now he's on a pill "Metformin" which can cause diarrhoea. which is being looked in to.

He's currently bed bound, so I'm having to learn the best way to change the bed sheet on my own.

On another note, I found out my 96 year old neighbour died just after Christmas, his funeral was today and packed, its possible a former England manager was their as their late bother was a friend of the family.

Sorry to hear about your dad Hom3r. It sounds like you are doing as much as you can to help him and be there for him. I hope that carers or hospitals have put a good plan in place to help him, but also to help you as you cant do everything.

My moan of the day is that I am still getting severe anxiety pains as I am being framed for things I have not done and this is breaking me. My whole life and job is going to be ruined if this person keeps doing this to me. I litterally have lies and lies being sent my way. Allegations and allegations against me.
A typical example....injuries from a fall my partner had a few years back are now being twisted to say that I caused them. It is absolutely vile and I cant understand how people who do this can sleep at night!

Well my dad appears to be getting back to normal.

On Thursday me and my sister where able to get him to stand while we changed his bedding and underwear.

He's been signed off the Virtual Ward, and carers. But now on community nursing who will liaise between us and our doctors and services he needs.

We just had to have our 15 year old Dalmatian (Denzel) put to sleep today - all four of us (myself, wife, 35yo daughter, & 32yo son) were in the back room with him, holding him as he passed away.

He was a rescue dog (we had him for just over eleven and a half years), and he brought such joy to three generations of our family - his health had deteriorated since he snapped his cruciate ligament last March, and as stated earlier this month in this thread, his health was getting worse, and for the last month he could hardly use his back legs, and had to be supported with a harness for walks and pooing & weeing.

He’s at peace now, and no more pain - I loved him so much, and will miss him more, but part of the deal you have with your pet is knowing when it’s time to let them go, so they don’t suffer.

RIP Denzel

What did your US colleagues do to leave just the UK team, the part time support from India and your US boss to survive such a drastic cut? I hope your job is safe.<hugs>
