Just a thought, rock bottom price is not everything to take into account.

Trust me, BT is not rock bottom prices. I was interested in the free BT sport. But as for the BB prices nothing is rock bottom cheap about that.

True, and Plusnet is the cheapest of those 3 for BB but has the best customer service ;)

..... With regret that human was from seas far away and I could barely understand them (British Telecom..W/E)........ so I am rather annoyed with BT on the phone so far but I will try and remain calm and when Infinity is eventually installed I will be posting feedback on that.

I did warn you about BT overseas call centres! :( (They probably share the other half of same Mumbai jerry built call centre with VirginMedia? ;)

I assume you have some overlap with retaining VM in parallel with BT Infinity install - although it seems you might have given 30days notice to VM already?
Have you checked/confirmed what "user satisfaction", if any, BT offer (other than statutory 7 days distance buying cancellation) if the instal doesn't meet your expectation (or exceed VM's current degraded service) within say a month?

Not that you have much choice other than to gamble with BT as VM's Lancing service on your node will likely further degrade as you also predict over next 9months+ to Sept2014! :(

Seems you're between a "rock and a hard place" again.... :(

Yep, I feel pretty stuck.

My VM is due to be terminated on Feb 10th, BT Infinity to be installed on Feb 3rd, If they hold that date. If worst comes to worst on the Infinity install I will push Virgin back for another month and hopefully they will credit me still for the degraded service. I almost want to keep the VM BB so I can monitor it over the coming months - I guess I could still get credits every month?

I feel rather deluded by the whole experience - urrgghh!!

P.S. BT have told me I have 14 days cooling off period from activation day - Hope that is true.

Good luck with BT mate the problems i have had to deal with for my father in law Openreach not turning up blaming the poor speeds on the wiring in the house after i rewired the house . I was lucky knowing someone at BT who helped get it sorted :)

Does the fibre go back to the exchange or do they connect up to the nearest cabinet as with VDSL?

Are they running fibre from poles or is it only where there is ducting in place?

FTTP the fibre goes to the node, i.e. where the VDSL cabinet connects to

They are using poles and ducts depending on area, this product will be available in all FTTC areas

What's the ETA on FTTP on Demand in FTTC areas? Just curious as I'm thinking of going to BT Infinity when my VM contract expires, have no gripe with VM just think BT's product with it's predicted 63/18 FTTC speed would be more ideal for me.

FTTPoD and prebuilt FTTP use different layouts and node locations.

FTTPoD is already available in limited areas (CP trial) including near me. I'd guess 3-6 months before it rolls out more widely (i.e. Starts expanding towards all areas)

Yea I'm aware FTTPoD and existing FTTP are a bit different, but I guess the end result (from the user perspective) is more or less the same. Given it's an all fiber run.

My contract expires in October this year so if BT FFTPoD is at a sensible price (but I'd doubt it) I would consider it, if not BT FTTC would be fine.

Openreach have made FTTPoD available in all areas to all ISP's, so far no ISP is offering it.

For those intersted here's the price list for install.

http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home...2e9%2Bmw%3D%3D

36mth min contract though ISP's may extend that to 5yrs and reduce the instal cost. No-one knows yet.

And dont skim that page, there is an important line in there..

It is also worth noting that the charges are what Openreach will charge. By the time it filters down to the ISP's and then the customer...

It isn't though.

FTTPoD uses a dedicated fibre link with SyncE capability (not sure if they'll be making use of it anytime soon) Prebuilt FTTP uses GPON split fibres shared with many other users, with protocol similarities to that of DOCSIS cable. The latter being a contended, shared service, and the former is not.

You're talking about as big a difference as a leased line vs. Virgin Media cable.

Don't see how that proves it's available everywhere, in fact the first address I check shows it's not:
