I wonder why 152Mbps? There must be something significant about the extra 2Mbps.

BT FTTC offers max of 76Mbit to majority of people..

So they would offer 152Mbit.. so they could claim they are 2x faster than everybody else..

Check out their press release on ispreview or virgin official site..

Still haven't got the 120/10 upgrade here, even though *My VM* page says it 's been done in the area!

That makes sense, actually.

Ah , it's slightly different on that page ...

we'll be automatically upgrading you to up to 120Mb broadband during November 2013
Whereas on the other page ...

Pssst -
if you're one of our up to 100Mb customers, your broadband has already been upgraded to 120Mb.
Fair enough , I'm not that desperate anyway, as long as I get a nice steady connection (which I do!) all is OK.

Is it a comparable product? Seems a bit expensive to me: http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/ne...st-year-160113

What are you on about?

VM always announce package speeds. i.e. 60, 100, 120, 152.

The Max Traffic Rate will no doubt be inline with other tiers:

An extra 33Mb which looks not bad.

No, it won't be extra 33Mb as Virgin say it will be anything up to 20Mb extra on every product. So 152Mb will get a speedtest of 145Mb

Code:

Tier  Max Traffic Rate    Speed test
100Mb        110Mb          103Mb
120Mb        133Mb          126Mb
152Mb        162Mb          145Mb

because virgin media say somnething about twices the faster than BT FTTC 76Mb as that why they put up from 150Mb to 152Mb. Pretty silly.

And the upload staying at 20Mbps as well. 330/20. Waste of money. And 36 months is putting everyones off. Virgin Media will get 400/40 one day in 2017

That's not how Virgin work. They always add overhead to the packages to make sure they meet the advertised speed, which is why most people on 120mb can actually get 126mb for example. I would say it's a safe bet that the modem stats will be somewhere around 160mb to make sure people can reach the advertised 152mb.

Ah ok. But surely upload should be 15 not 12?

Yes sadly price rises are a yearly occurrence and this is no different and my advice is to look around and try to get the best value package for yourself and your family.
