Yet more taxpayers money down the pan!

Are we ever going to find out what happened to the civil servants who got it so badly wrong and apparently misled ministers I wonder? Are these people ever called to account or can they just muddle along regardless of how inept and/or deceitful they are? :confused: :mad:

Have they even been identified or would that be too traumatic for them? I wonder what would have happened had their private sector counterparts, doing the numbers for the likes of Virgin etc., cocked up so massively?

I still think there was something underhanded going on. I can't believe that ministers and civil servants couldn't see the flaws that everyone could see. FirstGroup were promising a much higher price, better service, better trains, more trains, more sears faster trains and all at lower ticket cost. They only conceded it wasn't feasible after they awarded the franchise and only because they were a day away from it being challenged in court.

If Virgin hadn't taken court action would this have been stopped? I doubt it.

I dare say it'll turn out to be down to a combination of factors but I think it's vital that we're told the truth and that effective action is taken a) to punish those culpable and b) to prevent it happening again.
