Precisely this, the lack of a dedicated live tuner is key-if you had three recordings set then the channel would change half way through the programme you'd had to be reminded to watch in order to record them. Since this feature has arrived following constant criticism of it's absence from some rather pompous people who seemed to think their needs were greater than others I can only imagine the complaints if it had been implemented in any way other than that which it has been.

Well done on completely mis-interpreting some posts then. Because I don't believe that anyone has ever actually stated that.

I pretty much agree with buckleb and Sirius , why do some feel the need to educate people on how they view the television. Like most things in life peoples habits will vary vastly , some like to record everything , we're others prefer to watch the programme as its aired and make it social time with other members of the family besides werent the ad breaks invented for brewing up :D , the sports fans amongst us see viewing live as essential to avoid the dreaded spoiler text from a friend. :D

Broadcasters today give us many options when watching TV , we have the option to record the show watch a repeat at a more convenient time , watch it ad free via catchup On Demand , view it online or via wifi on a mobile device so why the select few feel the need to try and condemn others for having different viewing habits is honestly beyond me.

Well done VM for listening to its customers and making the reminder feature an option for those who want it. :tu:

To be fair, my reply was slightly tongue in cheek, but to suggest people who disagree with a point of view are "pompous" is really a bit much as far as I'm concerned because my perception of the matter is that some very well reasoned arguments have been put forward, and ignored. Either way, they're here now, they've been implemented in what is probably the only way possible (and yet still we get sniping!) so it's time for Virgin to put their energies into some other desired tweaks.

Yes like multi streaming functionality and some OTT apps.

I am so glad that those people you refer to have no influence on what VM do or do not offer there customers. :tu:

Just to be clear, I wouldn't dream of labelling anyone pompous just because they have a different viewpoint than me. I accept that individuals will always want to do things their way, but I do regard it as pompous when they start to lecture people on how they should be using their equipment.

The new reminder system isn't as good as the V+ one, but it is good enough for me.

I deliberately haven't mentioned names as it is neither productive or fair, rather I'm aiming at the group of people who have consistently, on here and other places, labelled those who don't want to use TiVo in the way that they think it should be used as virtual Luddites.

That's how you've taken it, I'm not convinced it's how it was meant. Like I say, I've seen what I consider to be well reasoned arguments ignored by people who, in my perception, weren't prepared to countenance change. Allegations of pomposity could well be levelled at some on either side of the debate, but it doesn't mean the debate wasn't there to be had. My opinion is that whilst you've done well to avoid naming those whom you consider to have been pompous you'd have done better had you said nothing at all.

@den - does OTT mean netflix and the like? If so wholeheartedly agree.

You can record a show and still watch it live.

I'm well aware of that I've had a PVR since the first Sky+ in 2001 and record probably 70-80% of my shows , hardly worth it though if I'm watching live and not likely to watch it again.

Re: Reminders are here!

Let me give an example of how I like to use reminders. I enjoy watching channel 4 news during the week it's easy because it's always on at 7pm on the dot. During Saturdays and Sundays it's never on at a set time so I would use the reminder feature to get the TiVo to change channel for me when it's on, much like I used to do with the V+.
