Stuart Murphy, the director of programmes for Sky Atlantic, said one week before channel launch that it would be an "incredible channel: seminal, world-class, epic TV all in one place".

I agree 100%. In fact I think I started a thread about this very subject. Once everyone on the Virgin network has access to TiVO, Catch-up VOD will not be as essential. In 2 years time Virgin might be able to bin Cathc-up and invest their money in more linear channels and demand content.

I cannot see that happening VM are adding more VOD all the time, even their own statements say that VOD useage is increasing year on year.

Yes a pretty decent list , not everyone's cup of tea but a few award winners.

Yup - I wish I had Sky Atlantic for some of those shows, but not enough to give up my good deal, my TiVo, and my consistent 30Mb/3Mb broadband.

ymmv.

Re: Sky or VM for TV???

Can anyone find a completely independent review or overview of SKY Atlantic anywhere on the internet that paints it as a success, a genuine must have or a proven good investment from SKY so far? I can find plenty of good reviews about Game of Thrones, and it's viewing figures, but nothing for the actual channel itself.

The channel has been up and running now for 9 months, so has had plenty of time to settle in.

And why would punters be concerned about the investment , its Skys money and they spend it how they see fit , the investors will air their concerns if they feel its not doing well. I'm sure Sky Ones daily reach wasn't what it is now 9 months in.

I'm not trying to say punters are or should be concerned about the investment made by SKY. I'm not saying SKY should come out and state whether they think the channel or their investment in the channel is sound. I'm not even suggesting the channel won't be a long term success but current figures from BARB confirm less people are watching the channel now, compared to when it launched.

I'm just looking for something on the internet that is really positive, independent from SKY and shows the channel in a good light. Something from a non SKY source which champions the channel, not just an individual show, and builds it up as a must have. Ultimately this is what SKY themselves surely must want too.

The only truly positive stuff I've read about the channel is from SKY themselves.

But why do you need to read a glowing review of it ? It's like many other channels it either interests you or it doesn't , most pay tv channels have repeats and old shows during the day with key shows shown primetime. Game of thrones , Boardwalk Empire , Treme , Entourage etc are all great shows in their own way and award winning however some viewers will love them some won't , that's the beauty of choice. I personally only watch a few shows on Atlantic and the channel wouldn't be a gamechanger between VM and Sky for me. I suspect Sky themselves will be looking at the figures you quote and seeing how best to increase them but that's something they need worry about not us punters :)

I just want to see if one actually exists.
