no matter how much people hate the tories, david cameron has done a remarkable job of getting everybody behind the action currently being taken against gadaffi... long overdue!.. i can honestly say everybody who has anything to do with gadaffi should die (and i hope they do) and maybe in the future this country may even become democratic!

I'm not guessing - I know what we and the allied forces are trying to achieve - We are clearing Gaddafi's Air defence grid, so a proper full and frank no fly zone can be implemented within the next 24 hours as per the UN Resolution that was agreed earlier this week. Simples.

'Fun' isn't a word I would use to describe the deployment of Cruise Missiles...

I really have my doubts about this operation, one we don't really have a clue who the rebels are and more importantly what they stand for, secondly no matter how odious Gadaffi is essentially this uprising has all the hallmarks of a civil war.
This isn't Egypt or Tunisia where the populations were overwhelmingly behind the protesters, in Libya it certainly appears as if there are significant numbers on both sides, after the debacle of Iraq and our current standing in the Muslim world frankly I'm amazed at our blind rush into yet another conflict.
Anybody who honestly thinks the west will receive any thanks for this intervention, no matter how well intentioned will be sorely disappointed.

Blind Rush? It's took the UN weeks to agree to a No Fly zone hardly a rush.

The threat is real - he declared no Mercy on his own people, The Rebels and he has also vowed defiantly to "die a martyr" if necessary in his fight to maintain power and if he still has weapons of mass destruction then all the more reason to oust him.

In the international community, his government and or regime is no longer seen as legitimate, he and his government forces are now accused of crimes of international law, harming of civilians, his own people, en masse.

This is not about getting a 'thanks'. It's about downing Gaddafi and his 42 year ruling, that is what this is all about. The Rebels stand for themselves, they want fair and democratic elections - that is what they have been protesting about since all this commenced back in Feb.

I think the armed forces have a much better idea of what's going on in-country than you give credit for.

Remember the SAS team that got sprung, arrested by the rebels and then deported the other week? Everyone wanted to know why they landed covertly by helicopter, armed to the teeth and kitted out with lots of very expensive, very secret gadgets? Why they didn't just disembark HMS Cumberland which was docked in Benghazi at the time?

Clearly, they were supposed to stay in-country without anyone (least of all the world Press, which was crawling all over Benghazi docks at the time) knowing they were there. We know from previous operations of this type that there will be other SAS teams, undetected, there right now.

I'm also a bit surprised at your willingness to take the TV images coming out of Tripoli at face value also. It is widely understood that journalists are on a pretty short leash in the capital and that Gadaffi's world-famous secret police is intact and operating as usual. These people are being told that the east of their country is subject to Al Qaeda attack, and now that the Old Powers are trying to re-occupy their home. Their reaction, even if it is entirely genuine, is understandable.

i just hope in the thick of all this cameron does NOT push for a ground presence, fair enough these missiles are expensive but the action must be taken, and you cant put a price on our soldiers lives!
