are sky sports hd channels not packaged in the same way as the sd channels? where sd ss1 package is actually 2 channels? if thats the case then there is no problem with them shifting content altho i could be wrong.

Sky Sports 1 and 2 are single channels. They haven't included 3 or 4 for a couple of years

To get 3 & 4 you have to subscribe to the Collection

In that case.... maybe there won't be an increase to cover the extra HD charges? Hopefully, they will keep the charges the same and maybe throw in some other incentives for those who do not wish to have the HD channels such as more free calls etc. At least that way, Virgin don't really lose that much revenue.

To be honest - I'll have to see just how much these extra charges will be. What with having the VIP pack and 3 Virgin mobiles in the house, I don't really think I want to be spending much more than I am now. It all adds up to one scary figure paid out to Virgin each month!

Thinking about this today it's just all too bittersweet :(

Blimey....since this deal was 'rumoured', some of the nonsensical drivel that has been written across various forums is as laughable as a 42 year old still believing that a Fat White Bearded man comes down our chimneys on 25th December.

This is nothing to do with Virgin 'selling out' or Murdoch trying to dominate the world...its what business is about. Sky see it as commercially a good deal, likewise, Virgin TV saw it as commercially a good deal. END OF STORY. Its what happens in the business world and its not about SKY buying the TV business just to **** off Virgin Cable subscribers.

Some people just cannot see a deal for what it is...just that and with no seedy undercurrent attached

All I was pointing out, which I have have done before and been shouted down for, is that VM (actually it's more accurate to say NTL as their board control VM) don't want to be a content provider, they never have and any attempts in the past have been ill thought out then shelved. If they did they would have beefed up the Telewest channels but they didn't and couldn't wait to get shut.

I have no doubt that when the time is right the UKTV channels will also be sold but it's obviously more complicated with it being jointly owned.

I would not be the least bit surprised if when this carriage deal comes to an end we won't be having these discussions as VM will be using their network for far more lucrative activities than linear television, in fact who knows if we will actually be watching linear TV then.

I really wish people would stop saying this.

The majority of people on the current board joined after either after the merger or the rebrand so cannot be classed as 'NTL' because by that time that company no longer existed

There have also been enough restructures and technical changes within Virgin Media to make the 'but it's just NTL' argument sound stupid
