Re: Jewish population on the increase

Because this type of thread "jewish population increase" always leads back to the holocaust and the effects because only the jews suffered during that period didn't they . It is a never ending thread of trouble and will not make progress they never have and never will. It will only expose some people to be other then what people thought they were before as has again happened in this thread with at least one poster having done irrepairable damage to their standing on here and for what some birth figures not worth it.

Why can't you just admit that you were wrong and retract the statement? There is no 'grander scheme of things' that makes the killing of 6 million people not a 'massive figure'. 6 million apples out of billions of apples is insignificant. 6 million people murdered, out of however many, is clearly quite different and utterly shocking and depressing. If you can't understand the difference then I genuinely feel sorry for you.

Re: Jewish population on the increase

In the second world war over 50 million people lost thier lives yet were always compelled to remember the 6 million from one group and while that is a large amount it is less then an eighth of the total dead in a war against evil regimes. There seems to be a fair bit of baiting going on here for comments which while not pleasant to say are nonetheless true. Can we not remember all the dead from this conflict equally rather then just concentrating on one particular group all the time. They all deserve to be both recognised and remembered equally and to raise one group higher then another is something i think is distasteful in the extreme.

Because I'm not wrong, I just hold a different view to you.

Read the last few pages, I can't be bothered to explain it all again for a nit-picker.

Thanks, I feel warmed to think you genuinely care.

There's no nit-picking here I'm afraid. You posted this:

and it's completely wrong as I'm sure you know.

I'd love to go to the holocaust memorial museum in Israel, but I know if I do I would probably spend my time there with tears streaming down my face at the inhumanity of what happened, especially with the pile of shoes, or room of candles).

I went to the Holocaust Memorial in Prague a few years ago. Not as big as I assume the Israeli one would be, but still very powerful & very upsetting. Name after name after name after name after name... :(

Yes, we should remember all the dead, definitely.

But the Holocaust is different though IMO. It was not the same as "normal" civilian or military deaths during war - it was a systematic attempt to exterminate an entire race of people, an act of unspeakable evil. That should not be forgotten, should not simply be "lumped in" with all the other casualties.

(Sigh)

'Massive' is a subjective word. Therefore it's an opinion. Therefore you are no more right than I.

Sorry about that.

I assume that's the closest Russ B gets to admitting he was wrong?!

Hitler pretty much tried to wipe out the Roma and homosexuals as well. However, the Nazis weren't the first to target Jews. It's been going on for ages. (Have a look at that wiki I posted earlier).

I agree though that this thread is becoming a bit silly. We've seen a couple of pretty unsavoury, and a couple of clumsy comments, and the reactions to the clumsy comments have started to dominate the thread. The main thing I wonder though is: why was this thread created in the first place? I notice the OP has stayed stumm (pun intended) since starting this thread. I presume the motivation was 'to encourage debate?'

I try not to be judgemental, regarding what people say in here - no doubt proof exists where that hasn't been true - but - I do feel Russ could retract 'that' statement, without being seen to be 'wrong' on that or any subsequent opinions ???

I've already said the wording was unwise as it's meant the point I tried to make has come across as distorted, but I'm not going to retract it as it goes *some* way towards what I was trying to say and funnily enough, TheDaddy has come the closest to nailing it right on the head in post 100.

that is  - but think on, do you want to keep explaining to everyone, or just those who understand you ;)

With not a shred of paranoia there are one or two who, for whatever reason want to continue a little campaign of trying to attach my name to some pretty nasty comments that I have not and would not make. I've made enough of an effort to point out where they are mistaken and if they want to carry on then I think that reflects more on them than I.

I've said my bit, and that's all I have to say on the matter :)

In that case this link may be relevant, not anything against you, Russ

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust

we can only imagine what it might have been like for those people, defending their faith, back then ??
