Oh god. We all know what insurance cover is for.

Think of it as car insurance, if you crash, you have to claim, which in turn rises your premuim.

Shops get goods stolen, they claim on the insurance, the insurance permium rises.

I'm not getting sidetracked..I'm merely pointing out that there are consequences to any crime and that there is no way anyone can say a crime is unimportant and shouldn't be reported.Cable or shops the principle is exactly the same.

I've just read this entire thread and I'm astounded.

I bet the anti grassers would be the FIRST to complain if it was them who was the victim of theft.

I also bet they are the ones who habitually claim that the police do nothing about crime.Well yes of course they don't IF NO ONE TELLS THEM A CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITTED and that would be grassing wouldn't it?

That attitude is frankly moronic.

You have just read the entire thread and you still can't understand? OK then, I'll put it simple for you:
1. Someone reports a crime.
2. In order for the body responsible to actually do something about it, they have to provide some evidence.
3. When it is their word against someone else's word, they have to stand behind it and stay there, not hide behind anonymity.
4. If there is no evidence, and no witness statement, the report will just go in the bin, or in the bottom of a dusty drawer.
5. Finally, if the person reporting wants to actually stop the crime, they cannot stay anonymous.

still the Op was on about cable so bringing shops into it is getting sidetracked.

OK!Lets say they do...

Not heard of Crimestoppers then?
4. If there is no evidence, and no witness statement, the report will just go in the bin, or in the bottom of a dusty drawer.
OF course, but IF there is evidence then there is no problem is there but to get to this stage a crime still needs to be reported.
5. Finally, if the person reporting wants to actually stop the crime, they cannot stay anonymous.
Yes they can..That's how Crimestoppers came about.

By the way, in connection with being hypocrite in crime treating, wasn't the person asking the initial question the same one that asked recently how to change their IP address in order to avoid a ban from a torrent tracker? I just wonder what the reason for this ban was?

Now we get down to why you have a beef with the OP..Why didn't you say so in the first place?

But we still come back to the point that saying someone is a grass for reporting a crime whether anonymously or not, is not helpful and that the law regards all stealing as a crime.

Only murder and violent assault are regard as more heinous crimes and I'm hoping none here would hesitate to report anything they know of such a crime.
