Microsoft are now trying to force you to upgrade to IE 7 by sending it as a "Priority Update" on Windows Update. So if you have that set to update automatically you might find yourself with IE7 whether you want it or not. I nearly got caught out by it tonight.

I think that sucks TBH. I don't want it, I'm quite happy with IE6 so why trick me into installing IE7? It certainly seems to have its fair share of problems and as far as I'm concerned version 6 is OK. That ain't broke so I don't want to fix it.

IE7 isnt complete rubbish but the things wrong with it are the kind of stuff you would have expected to be fixed during beta testing and it appears a very rushed out release.

Another problem is the way msn reacts with IE7, windows live messenger a program written by microsoft doesnt respect IE7 settings, IE7 set to open new links in new tab from external programs, works for every single program except messenger where that opens a new window instead. I find it very hard to believe that wouldnt have been reported to M$ during beta testing.

My Windows tried to auto-update to it this morning, soon stopped that.

Mine tried it last night. I'm happy with IE6 and I just don't want IE7 and for Microsoft to try to sneak it in like this I think is underhand. When I get a new PC, fine, OK I'll have it then, but for the remaining time I have this one, I'll stick with the browser I have.

Some people seem to be having a lot of problems with version 7 and I just don't want the hassle of "fixing something that ain't broke", finding V7 doesn't work properly on my PC, trying to roll back to 6, not being a techie getting myself in a real pickle, confused etc...I don't need the aggravation.

Apple did the same thing. I couldn't connect to their music store and the way to fix it was to update to their latest version of iTunes. I was quite happy with my version and the latest one is clunky and sometimes freezes. I know technology moves on etc but I wish that when stuff works they would just leave it alone for a while!

No Mr Gates I do not want the "latest version of Windows Live Messenger"....mine works quite well at the moment (though with msn stuff just because it works today is no guarantee it will work tomorrow so I'm tempting fate), I don't want IE7 either.....no Apple I don't want the latest version of iTunes...What I want is just for stuff to work and to be left alone to enjoy them!

Well said there mate, i was more than happy with MSN 6.2 and IE6. Most things that are updated add new things that i don't use anyway :/

well i did put ie7 on my comp, didn't like it one bit, web pages loaded so so slow and just didn't like the look of it much, so gone back to ie6.

anyone know where the refresh button is on the all new, all crap IE7?

bluddy hell! anyone tell me if the IE6 SP1 is the right version to reinstall on XP once I've got rid of this 'orrible IE7?

Refresh button should be a green double arrow icon at the end of the address bar.

Just thought I would share my experience with IE7.
It took nearly two weeks to download it after I received the announcement from Windows Update (the download would keep timing out due to heavy load on their servers). Anyway once it downloaded I then had to wait until the following day before it decided to install itself. There were no problems with installation, but upon running IE7 for the first time it kept trying to load a page from Microsoft - runonce.aspx, which was something to do with settings. All I received was a blank blue screen and whenever I closed IE, it crashed! After searching on Google I discovered that I could disable this 'runonce' page by editing the registry, but to be honest, I wanted to actually see the page.
To cut a long story short, I have NTL Netguard and by temporarily disabling the Ad Blocking feature, the 'runonce' page loaded successfully and I was able to save the settings it offered. IE7 now works flawlessly and I am quite pleased with it.
If anyone else has such a problem, it might be worth trying what I did. Maybe other similar Ad Blocking programs could cause the same problem.

they have disabled the auth type cache digests.

IE7 can be uninstalled using add/remove tool putting IE6 back but this made my windows buggy so it must have left behind mixed versions of dlls or something, so I reinstalled it.

It's buggered up everything royally for me still. I've just tried installing WMP11 so that it might play WMA streams again.. whether or not that works, we'll see.

I've been lumbered with a copy of IE7 that I don't want & will probably only use for Windows Update as I'm happy with Firefox 2.
