it is indeed good value, I think if you try again and speak to someone else you will get it. persistance pays.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99

I was on the £17.99 1mb service. I phoned Customer Retentions yesterday and they say I'm now on the £9.99 tariff like new signups. This was done without any argument. They did say I wouldn't see it on my statement for 30 days, so I'm yet to be completely convinced.

(Can you tell I've been with NTL for a while? I think it's the cynicism that gives it away).

If said costs are £10 and turnover is £20 that equates to 100% profit so yes it is possible. 200% is possible and so on.

Ring retentions not Customer Services.

Not quite...

If the cost price is £10 and the sale price is £20 then the profit is £10, which is a percentage profit of 50%.

The markup is £10 and is a 100% markup.

Therefore it is possible to have 100%, 200%, etc. markup but never possible to have higher than 100% profit and only then if the cost price was free.

I stand corrected, apologies to all.

if you speak to anyone at NTL who isn't in the retentions department/customer relations and ask for this deal they can not offer it and will give you the standard line that it's for new customers only. which is fair enough as it isn't their job to offer incentives to keep you.

To retain customers, ntl are offering TV-phone-1MB BB for £30 for 12 months, meaning you get the BB free, which each bill showing a 17.99 credit.

Thank you very much ntl!

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99

I phoned ntl CS earlier this week after I thought that paying £24.99 for a 750Kb connection was a bit steep. Yes, that's £24.99 for 750Mb. Have been doing so for years!!! Now am on 1Mb at £9.99. Wish ntl would charge a price based on the service you get rather than whether you're a new customer or not.

the girl who shares my office who has phone/tv & dial-up just phoned to upgrade to the 1mb and was told that as she's a "triple pack customer" he could offer her a deal and gave her an "time unlimited" discount of £9.50 against her bill so that her broadband will cost only £8.49 !!!!!! - I have been a ntl customer for years and have 2 x phone/tv with family pack and 3 mb broadband and have never been offered any sort of deal - do you think its worth phoning

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99

It can't do any harm to try, I am ringing retentions later today, I am not going to threaten to take my business away I am just going to have a word and see if I can get some sort of offer.

I talked to a very nice lady and I now have BB for £9.99 a month for 12 months so I am happy :)

Oh and please don't flame me as I didn't lie, shout or demand to get it and they still get a lot of money off me every month :)

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99

phoned customers service tonight to ask about disconnecting my broadband and 2nd phone line as I wanted to go to bulldog for the 8mb broadband and they have asked me to phone retentions tomorrow before I confirm the disconnection as they might be able to offer me a "deal" - will phone tomorrow and see what they say

I think it's only fair of me to point out that Bulldog are having major problems at the moment.

They have 1.5 hour waits on the phone most of the day and can only get ~80% of connections done on time :(
