That is for BT customers, BTtv customers are going to start paying £3.50pm for BTsports, other BT customers £5pm,SKY customers £21.99pm, as far as i'm aware VM are not affected yet.

I read somewhere that BT bills were going up, but only by £1??

Guess that's to pay for their "free" Boxnation, a bit like VM and their "free" BB speed upgrades!

But will Discovery ask Virgin Media to drop - TLC+1, I.D.+1, Quest +1, DMAX +1, Discovery Channel +1, Animal Planet +1, Discovery Science +1, Discovery History +1 or Home & Health +1 - for Quest Red to launch?

We are set to miss Quest Red +1 from launch.

We also feel that Quest +1 will move to Freeview HD so that it old slot on Freeview and also it channel number 38 can be use for Quest Red*.

*Discovery has confirm no channels will be drop on Freeview.

Come on Dave - the eventual price rise will be no-where near what we would have to pay for BT Sports separately. I know like me you like ESPN and I'm a big rugby fan as well. I already overpay VM and don't want to give them even more.

It could have been delayed by VM while the LG policy on all this was being sorted out. I think VM may well be ready to go when given the green light.

I agree. It's on Tivo in the US and there were reports it was being tested here. It makes sense for LGI to do a global deal rather than a country-by-country one. That being said, they need to move soon or people will be tempted to watch an increasing amount of content directly on their smart TVs.

That's a different scenario in the US; most Tivos are not tied to a provider; they're bought just as a PVR. Some cable companies (I think, though not sure) will provide a Tivo as an option.

Technically Amazon Prime video could be added to Tivo and V6, providing that functionality was added in one of the Tivo updates which I suspect it was.

I can't see it not to have been added.

The US Premier was updated over a year ago to be able to stream Prime Video (Previously the Premier could only download purchased Amazon video, but not stream Prime video).

The Tivo has had several updates since then, and it would be strange not to have added that functionality in my view.

I'm not sure which source you are referring to? If Tivo had the Premier update, then it is indisputably technically possible.

Whether Amazon and LG have come to a deal, I don't have a clue. I have four devices that give me 1080p and 5.1, so it is not an issue for me. And I don't get why people are waiting for Amazon Prime to be added to Tivo, when there are inexpensive devices available that have been around for ages that provide both Amazon and Netflix, plus other services.

They are both on most Smart TVs as well.
The PQ is better through the TV app too, specially the 4K content due to the lack of HDR on the V6 at the moment.

Well, the thing is, if Amazon was on Tivo as well, one search would bring up everything on live TV, On Demand, Netflix and Amazon. Not only that, but you could use the series link + to get everything you want added from each of these services to 'My Shows'. That would be really something.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

A positive response from Amazon here on collaboration with cable companies. Also an interesting comment about sport, right at the end of the article.

http://www.digitaltveurope.net/67084...ith-operators/

Amazon ‘definitely open’ to video partnerships with operators

Speaking at Cable Congress in Brussels this morning, the managing director of Amazon Video said that while Amazon has not been as active at partnering up with pay TV operators as Netflix, it does speak to cable industry players and “Amazon is definitely open to those partnerships”.

Green said that Amazon has been primarily focused on improving its service for customers, but pointed out it had also worked with a “huge range” of device manufacturers and has also brought its own line of devices to market – such as its Amazon Fire TV devices.

The comments came a day after Liberty Global’s Central Europe CEO, Eric Tveter, said on the same Cable Congress stage that Liberty is currently “evaluating” whether to offer Amazon’s video offering, after striking a broad deal with Netflix last year.

Speaking on a panel today dedicated to the theme of over-the-top video, Green – who previously worked for BT TV and Virgin Media – denied that Amazon posed a direct threat to the traditional TV operator model.

He said that services like Amazon, Netflix and others “easily co-exist” with the cable and pay TV industry. “Compared to, if you like, traditional broadband, triple-play, quad-play businesses, this is not a zero-sum game.”

Green said that Amazon’s Prime Video Channels initiative in the US has seen it work with over 100 brands, helping them to deal with “that technology and marketing challenge” and allowing to them to “really focus on content”.

“We positively encourage brand-owners, content providers to go direct as well. There’s no notion that Amazon should be an exclusive route to market and indeed if you’re going direct, strategically you are typically investing a lot in the content,” he said.

“We work with people who have both models, but HBO is a great example. Their direct-to-consumer service – we offer it all over the Amazon channels in the US – we think it’s very complimentary. It supports their growth, it improves the marketing, makes sure they’re on every single platform, so there’s definitely room for growth and we encourage that.”

Discussing the future direction of the pay TV industry, Green said that channels – either linear or SVOD – are in essence brands that are starting to transcend the “old view of the world” of having a 24/7 linear channel with some VOD on the side.

“Really you are a provider of an edited selection of content under your brand, and that can be delivered both linear and on-demand in the best way for that particular customer. That’s a shift going on from the channel operators.”

Looking ahead, he added: “Almost talking about the OTT market I think is wrong. I think consumers now just think ‘there’s TV, there’s video, there’s movies’ and how they get that is just going to be increasingly transparent. It’s going to be less ‘am I with that provider or that provider’. They will have that freedom to pick and choose.

“I think a very interesting area in the end will be sport, which is traditionally an absolute bastion of cable or pay TV broadcast networks. If it wasn’t for sport, who knows. But that’s an interesting area for the next three to five years.

The F1 UHD channel is now testing on satellite, does anyone know if we will be getting this on VM?

I don't think we will be getting this initially, but hopefully that will change when LG take it over.

LGI are not taking over Formula 1. Formula 1 is part of another company, Liberty Media. http://www.libertymedia.com/companies/formula1.html

No chance what so ever, virgin is not the provider if you want 4K included in your package, or virgin store or anything

4k content is arriving on vm later this year via on demand content and pay content such as movies.
Eurosport also rumoured to be launching a 4k channel and they want it on bt, sky and vm.

That's all good but what about 4k material but for what we already subscribe and pay for rather than virgin movie 4k, nerfliz

I won't be changing my Tivo for a V6 until they have proper 4K channels. There is no point when I have Netflix,Amazon,Vimeo and You Tube on my smart tv.

Apologies, my bad, but Liberty Media is controlled by John Malone, which is the point I was making. With his Liberty Global interests, presumably he would aim to resolve this content issue for Virgin Media and the other cable companies he owns.

While they don't have 4k and the apps are available via other devices, it's way way much faster and big improvement on the older hardware

There is a point, because it is so much faster and therefore less frustrating than the old Tivo, plus it has 6 tuners, which avoids those annoying programme clashes. And with tha ability to stream your recordings from one box to another, you've effectively got the equivalent of a 2TB box.

If all this does not bother you, then I guess only the UHD channels will change your decision. However, the UHD content is only a short way down the track, but don't expect to get the Sky or BT fare this year. Most of it, I suspect, will be through on demand, initially at least.

The 4k on demand programming will be included in subs of xl or whatever it's called now and above.
4k ppv movies will range from £3.50 - £9.99 we presume the £9.99 will be movies still on cinema similar to what BT and SKY do occasionally.
Eurosport 4k when launched will be included in the XL pack.

Thanks for the info...Think I read an article at the beginning of the year about Eurosport broadcasting the Winter Olympics for 2018. I guess they will want to showcase the 4K UHD for this.

4K on demand for VM would be great. Specially if they agree a deal with Sky. Blacklist in 4K (UHD) on demand would be pretty cool.

You think 4K movies of titles that are still at the Cinema will cost £9.99? Really? The 4K HDR movies available on Amazon cost at least £18 and none of those are current movies.

Are you talking to buy or rentals ?

Sky Store charge £6.99 to just rent UHD titles (non HDR) I suppose to be fair they are new titles.

Not something I'd ever pay Den although to be fair they are all to expensive , how much are movie rentals on Virgin ?

In my opinion the increases on rental charges were a way of encouraging people to buy the movie.

They are to buy though and Amazon is a rip off anyway these days, the prices i gave are estimates for rental, slight difference.

They are £4.49 plus on Virgin which is still expensive as l say wait a while and one can pick up a copy of a film for a few quid and its your own and you can watch it as many times as you want then.

I may be wrong here, and please correct me if I am, I also have a TV which is capable of showing 4K content, it's also a smart TV such as yours Trevor, with Netflix, Amazon Prime etc etc, but the only way that I could view any 4K content would be through the new V6 box, is that correct? because the older TiVo isn't capable of showing 4K?

Netflix in UHD and Amazon in UHD should work through the apps on your TV no need for another box.

What model is it ?

Panasonic TX-50CX80 2B, it's a top set and capable of showing UHD, but I thought everything went through the TiVo whether it was an app or not?

Nope go onto the smart TV side of the tv and if you have the UHD sub Netflix should work.

Streaming will be done via your panasonic device via wifi or ethernet depending how you're connected.
You don't need the v6 to use netflix etc on your panasonic box and if uhd is supported on your panasonic box and you're subscribed to the correct netflix pack then you'll get uhd content from netflix on your panasonic set top box.

Hi mate, thx for the reply, I don't have a Panasonic set top box, all I have is the smart TV connected to my TiVo, my TV is connected to the internet via WiFi as I have already had several software updates on it.

You'll still be fine mate netflix will work from your smart tv apps, i have a samsung smart tv i access the smart hub to use netflix etc, it'll be similar with panasonic you just access the apps on your tv via the panasonic smart menu/hub and you can use netflix and other apps via that no need to use v6 box.
Uhd will work fine if you're subscribed to the correct netflix tier which i think is the highest for Uhd, i personally am on the £7.99 one which is hd not uhd.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Yes mate I already access Netflix via the app, it's so much quicker, I also use the YouTube app which we find brilliant for music etc. I am also paying £7.99 for the HD content from Netflix, but haven't seen an awful lot in UHD from them! I don't consider myself a complete noob lol, but wasn't sure how the apps on the TV were loading, i.e through the TiVo or WiFi, but thanks for the explanation, it kind of negates my need for a V6 to a certain extent.

Hey Vince, I've got 4 boxes in total - 2 are multiroom -I ditched my V HD boxes for 2 V6s as part of my VIP pack and kept the Tivo 1GB and V+HD as multiroom boxes

I was told by VM that because I had the V+HD box the multiroom charge was £11.50 per box, that was £23 a month on multiroom costs. I've got rid of the V+HD box and swapped it for the Tivo 500GB. The multiroom price went down to £7.50 per box so saved myself a few quid too...happy days

Has anything changed with regard to VM channel 921?

The EPG is apparently still showing 'Heart extr', but that means nothing as channel 545 is still listed as Motors TV!

Yes, channel 921 is now carrying Heart 80s but the channel names haven't been updated. Presumably VM take the feed from Astra / Sky.

Cost probably, although it could be added at a later date. Discovery has dropped the Quest +1 slot on Freeview, replacing it with a 3 hour placeholder channel, so maybe the time shift channels aren't a priority at the moment.
