-Sky Real Lives (And Sky Real Lives for Sky Sports Mix HD)
-Sky Sports 5 (And Sky Sports 5 HD for Sky Sports Mix HD)

At time of posting Sky Sports Mix will only launch on Sky.

I don't think VM Will loose sky sports 5 because they show WWE Wrestling and European Football on that channel every week.

I'm guessing we're talking satellite and not cable here? Why does Sky have to axe a channel? Surely it can buy an existing/recently defunct SD channel? There are no capacity issues with HD channels.
Getting rid of any Sky-branded channels would just make it appear that Sky was not giving subscribers an additional channel, just a substitute channel. For this reason, the most likely channel on that list is Real Lives.

If Sky only have capacity to launch HD Channels maybe Sky will axe Sky Movies Premiere +1 - after all Sky Movies only have an HD Channel for Sky Movies Premiere.

So that Sky2, Real Lives, Sky Movies Premiere +1 and Sky Sports 5 all may close.

Our Sources has not given us any news on channels set to close.

Maybe virgin should get of their backside and start bidding for sport instead of relying of others then?
Oh wait that would require vm spending money.

No date is set yet, but it's going to be a while. So far we've just been piloting specific features, not the final release.

It's a shame that wuaki tv is all pay per view now. I won't be using it for that reason.

I would willingly subscribe if that was offered, though.

No plans for Sky Sports F1 channel to close, especially in the future as it will have exclusive rights.

No announcements to say that S4C will be anything more than a Euro 2016 channel but you never know, they might forget to turn the off switch. :D

Anyway.....Outcast preview episode 1 which is on demand was really good. Well worth a watch. Looking forward to the series starting soon.

Outcast is on my list to watch, i dunno if true but heard sky n vm will be getting it available on demand before it actually airs.

Looks like the information was wrong.

Those without SS F1 will be able to watch one race FTA (will probably be on Pick):

https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...ive-home-of-f1

If VM get the non premium channel Sky Sports Mix, there looks to be some races on there too.

Agreed. Comments like this make it more important to be wary

"David Zaslav, the chief executive of Discovery, said the company was still interested in a potential deal if it could be given freedom to run less public service broadcasting content"

Given the EU proposal to increase advertising time, it could end up being like American TV

I didn't mind Channel 5 being sold to Viacom as it could only mean more investment in the channel. I would be concerned if Channel 4 was sold regardless of nationality as that would impact on the type of programming it shows, as Discovery have suggested would be required for a commercial owner.

I would be concerned if ITV fell into overseas hands as it supports so much British production.

The EU is not proposing to increase advertising time in the UK, that's been spun by publications that want the UK to leave the EU. According to the trade press, "If it does pass in its current form, and works like the EU’s current television regulations, it will act as an upper limit for advertising across the EU, under which national governments will set their own limits. It will allow, but not require, the UK to loosen its restrictions on advertising time." http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/articl...RXvqY1azMYq.99

Unlike yourself, I wouldn't trust the EU as far as I can throw them. They have an agenda to demolish national law making and have all laws originating from Brussels; those laws will be proposed by an unelected body. They will do this bit by bit.

I don't have any issue with law-makers proposing laws as long as elected politicians vote on them, which they do. In this instance, the EU seems to be doing what you like ie leaving it up to national governments to decide advertising levels. They are suggesting liberalising the advertising cap so that national governments get to decide the level of advertising. So those that dislike the EU should be reluctantly pleased by these proposals.
And it's still unknown if we'll remain in the EU or not!

As far as the UK goes, Sky own 50% of the company that owns these channels, so I guess its possible.

Interesting theory. :)
I wondered if Sky was going to keep Vice exclusive to its own platforms. Therefore, it would be able to advertise Sky Atlantic, Vice and Sky Sports Mix as three exclusive channels. But if H2 evolves into Spike then possibly not.

Well BBC Three HD old slot is still free on Virgin Channel 163.

Two of out three ain't bad.

But that will mean S4C HD will be before S4C on the Virgin EPG.

Looking through this thread, it's pretty obvious that we ain't getting anything worth watching anytime soon, I am seriously considering dumping Virgin TV in favour of Sky, I'd keep the BB as it's excellent, but imo we are missing out on so many good shows on Atlantic, that I feel I may need to move, I know that I can get Now TV but the pq is pants.

That's possible. Putting a temporary part-time channel into the 900s would attract minimal viewers but 163 is a good number. But VM had better make up their minds soon.
Hopefully you'll be supporting England, MediaBoy, as Scotland aren't in the Euros on this occasion? ;)

Germany, France (After last Saturday Night) or Spain to win Euro 2016.

I will be supporting my Family tree.

I don't know, Max; there was a hint of more concentration on the TV side of the business in that recent Telegraph article. I'm pinning my hopes on that at the moment. Maybe some good news closer to Christmas....

But it's always Xmas, or coming soon, or when you speak to a Virgin agent you get the same old guff about being in negotiations with Sky OB, i'm just ****ed off about missing out on what I want to see, it really is frustrating!

If you watch it on demand, you get 720P resolution.
But I'm surprised none of the rumours of channels testing on VM have come right. I thought those QVC channels would definitely land.

No it isn't. I've a 42" Sony and a Now TV first gen box and the PQ is 720p for the On Demand service and is very, very good. The live streams are less impressive but who watches live TV these days??

I'd tend to agree, I've used the Now TV box on 6 TVs ranging in size from 21" to 42" and have not had any problem with the picture quality. I did use the live sports once and it was a bit poor but I understand that live sports streaming is now 720p also.

That said there probably would be a marked difference if I was to do a side by side comparison between Now TV and an 1080i delivery from Sky/VM but I'm just happy to have the content I have at a price I think is great value, I guess that weighs up quite heavily against paying more for 1080i quality.

Completely agree too, really impressed with Now TV since I got one in the Amazon Christmas deals. PQ is very good at 720p, I only watch on catch up/box sets so cannot comment on live TV PQ but might give it a watch to check.

There must be another issue for Mad Max to say PQ is bad???

Interesting but I think that's to retain you as a customer and better to replace it before it stops working through old age. Still six months or more before the new Tivo is launched and no indications that the existing Tivo will be discontinued then.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

I can't see them wanting to continue a product with such poor performance for so many customers, it's bound to have tarnished the VM brand by now.

Unless the software update improves things significantly...

To say that there are such poor performances for so many customers is quite a big statement in my opinion plus the VM brand is one of the most popular in the country from what l hear.

If it was for BBC Red button channels it would have gone up by six - not four.

For BBC Red Button 2, BBC Red Button 3, BBC Red Button 4, BBC Red Button 5, BBC Red Button 6 and BBC Red Button HD. They will be on Virgin Channels 990 to 996 by June 27th.

But we have seen all the BBC Red Button channels that was broadcasting last summer is still on the list of channels off the EPG.

S4C HD will be with us by Saturday* - BT Sport Europe did launch on an Saturday on Virgin Media UK.

*Info may change.

True, but it is an indicator. Also the problems have been acknowledged by various VM staff and if everything was fine I doubt that they would be bothering with an update to try to resolve the problems, let alone develop a new box!

I've set up this poll to try and gauge the problem for Cable Forum members:

Initially only those who subscribed to the Sky Premium HD channels were swapped, so that those channels could be switched to MPEG-4. Now the rest of the Scientific-Atlanta V+ boxes are being swapped.

VM (and any business with sense) doesn't keep large stockpiles of equipment. Boxes are bought as they are needed.

No there's not mate, i saw Now TV on my mates TV and the pq was pretty poor, maybe i'm used to having HD all the time, but since reading the comments it seems most of you are happy with it, so I have a couple of questions, well maybe more lol.

1) I have a new 50" Panasonic LCD TV which has stunning pq, would Now TV look ok on it?

2) What do I need to buy to watch/activate now TV? My BB is with Virgin and I have the top speed, I use the Netflix app on my TV to access Netflix and it loads up extremely fast.

3) I would like to watch Billions which started in January of this year and Game of Thrones which started in April of this year, will I be able to see the first episodes of these shows using catch up?

Many thanks..

They are announcing a new Now TV box on the 29th June. It is meant to be 4K and based on the Roku 4. They have said it will offer more channels including those on Freeview, but its unclear if it will have a tuner or if it will use IPTV for those channels as well.

Thanks MM, I may wait till the New Now TV box is released at the end of June, what i'm mostly concerned about is being able to catch up on the shows from Billions and Game of Thrones, I wont be going ahead with it if I can't watch these shows from the first episode of Billions and the first episode of Game of Thrones Season six.
