Re: Virgin TV (What's on soon)

If the reasons given are right can the BBC ever really hope to produce decent drama series in this type of mold in a world where the best ones often run to 4, 5, 6 or more seasons?

Sure they can produce three part mini series etc, but can they ever really produce multi season dramas and still comply with their charter by leaving room for new and diverse stuff?

I never watched Atlantis, but it seemed to me to be the sort of thing that would lend itself to an extended run. Could they ever really hope to do it justice in two seasons?

The Amazon Prime app is currently only available on the US Tivo Roamio.

http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/259

Some reports have said it will come to the Tivo Premier (which the VM Tivo is based on) sometime in 2015.

http://www.multichannel.com/news/tv-...eo-pump/385760

Quote:

TiVo noted at the time that apps for Vudu and the Amazon Prime enhancements would also become available to earlier-generation Premiere boxes sometime in 2015.
So, if it does eventually come, it won't be before the price rise comes in.

Personally, I hope it does come and ASAP as the two bluray players that I have with Amazon Prime on, don't give me 5.1 audio. Reports from the US say that the Amazon Prime app on the Roamio gives 1080p/24 with 5.1 audio.

Huh, a TV show made by a streaming company, being made available to a linear channel!?? Why would they do that if ad revenues will eventually die? Also, surely linear tv channels will reduce drastically in the next decade or so, so whats the point?

Stan Lee, the comic book legend behind Iron Man, Spider-Man and the X-Men, will create a “different kind of superhero” in a new TV series starring James Nesbitt as a detective who can control luck.
Lucky Man, a 10-part series for Sky1, will be made by the production company behind ITV’s Downton Abbey.

It will be the first UK television drama from Lee, who is now 92 and has been a familiar name to comic book fans for seven decades.

Yes I had heard ITV were thinking of ditching it but hoped either for a change of mind or for another channel to take it on

Sadly ITV Will Not be Showing Season 3 of The Americans because of Poor Ratings on Season 2.

Re: Virgin TV (What's on soon)

I think the time it was shown on Saturdays has hurt it greatly as it is a great drama, pity they could not have put it on a weeknight around a 9pm slot

The trouble is BBC and the ITV are bloody too obsessed with ratings all the time and because of that some great series have suddenly been trashed in the bin by them.

Re: Virgin TV (What's on soon)

They seem to be following the USA ethos of not really giving programmes a chance even if it means just swapping them to another day/time

Re: Virgin TV (What's on soon)

It amazed me that ITV bought the Americans in the first place and not surprised it failed on ITV; it is just not their type of show. It belongs on a different channel... BBC2 maybe... if the BBC hadn't had their budget cut... maybe that would have been a possibility?

Given the direction Netflix and Amazon are going, show wise, they would be a good fit. Also Fox; surprised they didn't pick it up in the first place as it is an FX show.

I`m wondering if they`ve dropped season 3 cause of where the storyline is going with Philip and the grooming of the young girl. I`ve been thinking that they are cutting this close to the bone.

I think it would be good though to show instances of this to educate people better in a quality drama.

With all the tensions between Ukraine and Russia now and threats of another cold war, it does still surprise me that there are as yet no UK TV offers to screen the 3rd season with all this news in the media and it's free advertising.

Yes and dumped it after two seasons. It should have been obvious that it wasn't a good fit for ITV and it's core audience.

Was it dumped or was it that only two series have been made?

I missed the last three programmes of series 2 due to rescheduling by ITV and so I would be interested if it became available elsewhere.
