So, if VM get BT Sport & Sky Atlantic it makes it on a par with Sky (in my opinion)

They was not confirmed then.

-BT was confirmed to me last weekend.
-Sky Atlantic has not been confirmed from any insiders that I know of yet. But Broadcastnow reported weeks ago that Virgin and Sky are in talks over the channel.

The ban on posting that info was only lifted at 3.20pm today by my insider who told me last weekend.

I needed the goahead to post from them.

Because that's what time the meeting at Virgin was when everyone was told that BT Sport is coming, meaning that there are now multiple potential sources and the leak to MB can't be obviously traced back to his specific source, I should imagine.

Why "must" MB know this? MB has clearly stated he does not know anything else. All he has been told is that the deal has been confirmed. The channel launches August 1st though. I would imagine VM will let everyone know what is happening in the next few days.

Either it means included free (as part of a package) or we are literally not getting ESPN.

In the ad, it is Jake Humphrey saying that VM will lose ESPN in August, and therefore is urging you go sign up.

I still consider this is as a strategy from BT and am still confident that ESPN will remain on VM.

Sky Sports extends Football League TV deal to 2018

BT missed out on this one and Sky not only get an extra 37 games they also get to call it the Sky Bet Championship, that's a big finger up to BT, it's war!

Just the fact that BT aren't bothering with it on DTT combined with the fact it isn't called BT Sport 3, I'm thinking they are classing ESPN as a 'bonus' thing that can only be viewed on Infinity (or Sky).

I hope I'm wrong though.

I think SKY still had a couple of years left on their existing deal. It looks like SKY approached them with improved terms, to secure a new longer running deal. For all we know there might have been something in the original agreement allowing SKY to renegotiate the deal after 36 months.

We've seen the rise and fall of ITV Digital, Setanta Sports and ESPN. Who knows BT might lose their Premiership rights in a few years time, forcing them to scrap the sports channel. A 5 year deal with a broadcaster you know will be around in 2018 would have been too good for the Championship to turn down.

Well if the channel is moving over to BT and do a different playout service then there wouldn't be any data to pull

I do notice sometimes that on some channels EPG they copy incorrect data for the days ahead that corrects nearer the broadcast time - Comedy Central & E4 do this a lot...

They are paranoid. Someone said "the sky is nice today" and suddenly they were shunned for saying nice things about Sky.

All this talk about BT Sports is all well and good. But I won't be happy until I get Sky Sports 3, 4 and F1 in HD.

Agreed Dave it is still amazing to me we get 1 and 2 in HD via the media authorities.

Best chance has to be Sky Sports News HD?

yes best chance of any more sky channels is SSN HD and sky news HD and can only see sky keep wanting over odds for SA so cant see that happening either

I agree about getting Sky News HD and Sky Sports News HD and not getting SS3, SS4 & SSF1 in HD but it is looking like Sky Atlantic in SD & HD is a done deal :)

I think someone else may have been right that BBC News going HD on Freeview may help us to get the Sky News in HD...

Ok say the deal is SA in SD only... is that better than not having it?

Sky Atlantic (SD & HD) will replace ESPN in the XL package and BT Sport will be a standalone add-on like BoxNation

Could Sky Atlantic replace ESPN on XL and BT Sport be free on XL? I know, this would be the perfect solution, but who knows Virgin may have struck something with BT.

I am the eternal optimist! :D

I like Sky News, pretty much the only rolling news channel I watch regularly. Can't beat a midweek rest day, walking back from the school run via the bakers, then a pastry and coffee and half an hour of Sky News!

Virgin know what they are doing as this decision is make or break time so I'm sure the have got something lined up maybe sky Atlantic in the XL pack and BT sport in the VIP and subscription for everyone else

cdf90 19-07-2013 19:31

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

IMO, the most likely scenario over the next few months is:
  • BT Sport launching, as a standalone package
  • Sky Atlantic (& HD) added to XL, from money paid to ESPN
  • Some of the extra ESPN money being used for bringing in other HD Channels, such as Universal and History (i.e. companies who have recently signed new deals, waiting for ESPN to leave the XL pack)

Personally, I think that would be a pretty good result. Being a sports subscriber, BT in the XL pack would be a nice luxury, but you can't always have perfection.

You can. You could have BT infinity, free BT sport, sky tv package with sport

Unless you want to stay a 40 year old virgin of course, then no :D

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

BT and their rotten rude customer service are about as far away from perfection as you can get.....

Over-rated sports channels and people who know better than me say the broadband isn't great either.

A plague on their houses!
