Smart match

http://news.xbox.com/2013/07/games-smartmatch-feature

If you are playing Forza from a disk and you are waiting for a game of Ghosts once a game Ghosts is ready you have to get up and take out Forza disk and put in Ghosts disk before you can play

SnoopZ 28-08-2013 20:30

Re: The Xbox One Thread

That will never be a problem for me as i won't be waiting for things like that, as i work too much for that and only play 1 game at a time.

Do you intend to buy all your games digital even if they cost £50-£60 a game? :)

I havent played a racing game online in years and after seeing a Forza video i think that will be a game to purchase from Play Asia or similar. :)

You can and have been able to since the Xbox 360 release. This is essentially the same as people that change their Netflix to the US version to gain access to greater content.

You don't even need to change your Router/DNS properties to gain access to XBL US. I have a gamertag that's US region based and has access to all the US content as well as my Modified UK tag which has access to UK stuff. I've never made purchases via card on the US account but have made purchases via paypal then card.

With the release of the X1 I doubt anything is going to change that much, the XBL dash is a constant work in progress and will continue over to X1 with the only updates being Kinect functionality, maybe some additional security features and the new features Microsoft are implementing.

Things are really starting to take shape for xbox one , rubbish reveal still didn't put me off , it's just going to get better and better. Xbox ones operating system and dashboard updates and innovative ideas will smash the ps4 just like the 360 did to the ps3 , Sony yet again are going to be playing catch up due to playing it safe IMO.

I 100% agree with you. Its now looking alot better for Xbox One than it did back at E3

I agree too and i was on the fence for ages thinking of getting the PS4 based on its hardware, however after watching a few game demos like Titan Fall and Forza 5 and the fact i always prefered the Xbox 360 controller over the dual shock and with the exciting impulse rumble feature, i think(hope) i made the right chose.

I would love to buy all my games digital too, but i am unlikely to do that as the cost of importing a disk version is currently far cheaper.

Strangely there seems to be very little news about the PS4 these days even though it is outselling the Xbox One by a large margin.

There is a reason for that IMO. Here is a post on a Facebook group. Excuse the poor grammer. Must warn you it is rather long

Quote:

Here's my input. Coming out of e3 Microsoft showed lots of amazing games and features on Xbox one. But they had drm. Sony came out of e3 saying we're the gaming console but they showed only a few games. The best looking one was killzone. The only reason Sony did good at e3 was because they had no drm. So everybody was team ps4, even though it didn't show much. But it didn't have drm. Microsoft seen that Xbox one wasn't doing well because of the drm and stuff. Nine days later they took drm and the check in off. And there gone for good. Sony also had drm. But Microsoft was getting kicked to the ground for having it so Sony said **** that and said we are about the gamers . So Microsoft got rid of the drm and check in. Everybody was like **** yeah you rock Microsoft. Xbox one also wasn't friendly to indies. And a lot of people didn't like that. So Microsoft said hey we need to do something here. Now we have a console that you can self publish on and every Xbox one acts as a dev kit. That's amazing, that's huge ! We all loved this change. A few weeks ago Marc whitten, was on a podcast with major Nelson and they were talking about how Xbox one is doing and Marc said well way better then we thought. Which is a good thing. We got to increase the gpu clock speed from 800 to 853. Then just a few days ago it was confirmed that we are now getting a headset. So since e3, all these changes have happened. And Sony has been pretty much quiet. That could mean a lot of things. But it makes me think that Sony has nothing else to say. And Sony says they have all these games for ps4. Yet there nowhere to be seen.... So I think it's all ********. I've seen a lot that people don't like kinect or think it will spy on you. Look kinect won't "spy" on you that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. And kinect brings lots of amazing things this gen and everyone that has tried it has really liked it alot. If that's the Case our smart phones and web cams, pretty much anything that has a mic, camera or uses the Internet can spy on you.. Now something I've also seen is people think Xbox one isn't about games now and ps4 is the ultimate gaming console. Lets see at e3, Xbox one showed nothing but games and they were all GOOD games. On top of all these amazing games we've got, we have 300,000 servers that are dedicated. That right there is enough is kill Sony. Xbox one is about games just as much as it was this gen. Sony says we have all these games and we are about the gamers. Yet they show off things like knack and ocadad? Yet you are about games? The only good games Sony has is killzone shadow fall right now. Sonys launch line up is weak as hell. Yet ps4 is a "GAMING" machine. Think about how stupid you look and should when to say that... In the end Xbox one is a better console because its core the heart of the console is games, games, games. Then there's all these features like Skype, twitch, nfl, hbo, etc and a kinect. We get a lot for our extra 100$. We get a better product and more for our money with Xbox one. And saying that ps4 is beating Xbox one is silly.. Xbox one is sold out everywhere and yet I can still find a few ps4s around. And no stores didn't get 50 ps4s and 10 Xbox ones. That's something a Sony fangirl would say to better there argument.... It's pathetic. And Microsoft also made the kinect optional to shut up all the paranoid people and over all just keep people happy an give them a option. And kinect is being used in a lot of games as we seen today. So clearly there not gonna drop it. Now gamescom, so far Microsoft has shown as a few new games and exclusive content along with a free game with every uk Xbox one (FIFA 14) now I can't see Microsoft leaving other country's out. So we will see a free game with our console as well, I'm thinking forza 5. And call of duty ghosts will be using dedicated servers, that's HUGE I mean everyone know cod is the biggest shooter out there and it has had lag problems for a while now. But what infinity ward showed us last week did impress me. But now we get dedicated servers? That's just over the top. And only Xbox one can do this. With over 300,000 dedicated servers that cost devs no extra money is truly amazing. And now on to what Sony showed at there gamescom conference, it was a **** show. They talked about ps3 and vita to much. I mean people don't wanna see current gen stuff, they wanna see what's next. Which is the ps4, but its like Sony pushes ps4 away. I mean they talked about the vita for awhile and must of you know that vita is not doing good, which is why they dropped the price 50$ and are making it so you can use it to play ps4 games. Which I think is stupid. Why would I want to use the vita as a controller and use the screen on vita instead of using the controller and my 55" flat screen. It makes no sense and Sony is trying to revive the vita and its not gonna happen. Just cut the cord and leave it behind. And now onto the ps4 "exclusives" that was a train wreak, if you wanna have indies that's okay. But when that's ALL you show after bragging about all these good games you have. I'm sorry but a indie isn't gonna beat ghost, bf4 or titianfall. It's just not. People don't game indies for hours and hours and hours like cod and bf etc. and we got a release date today which is November 15 in us and in the uk the 29 I think. And then Sony leaving its smart remarks was ignorant and they have no right to talk ****. They didnt change jack **** with there polices. Microsoft tried to bring change and it didnt work. But they tried, but now we have the Xbox one we want and love. And no it's not a expensive ps4 because Xbox one is very different. Also Sony is getting things like twitch and mine craft. But the CEO himself of twitch said Xbox one has let them do thing they can't do on any other console. And as for mine craft we are still partnered with that dev and so will get all that exclusive stuff. So now take a step back, and you'll see that Sony is now playing catch up with Microsoft now. Okay I mean Sony is making it so you can listen to music in the back ground while you game.... Xbox 360 has done this for years. Sony makes it sound new. That's the thing I don't get about them they make small things or multi platform games sound exclusive. And I find that quite funny. But the thing Sony does have Xbox one beat on is the amount of country's in launches in. Xbox one ha 13 Sony 32. Now Xbox one was 21, but due to the high demand and the small software tweaks for the language and the kinect. So it's small things right, but how Microsoft looks at it why ship on unfinished product to battle Sony? Why put your console at risk of being rushed. So yes it does suck for those that are affected but you can have a Xbox one imported because the games and console are not region locked. So over all you can get around the issue and its not like Xbox one won't be out world wide. Microsoft just wants to ship a amazing product and finished one at that. You can respect that if not, that's okay. But over all Sony **** the bed at there gamecom conference I seen Sony fans say this. I seem Sony fans say I hope Xbox one is still available for preorder. And Sony fans aren't bragging about the conference like it thought they would. And if your someone who is very involved with all the news around next gen then you know I'm right. But over all that's my honest take on Xbox one and ps4. And I'm not bias or a "xbot" I'm a honest person who sees threw Sonys ********. And I've had ps3 first and I had two of them. And there crap. But if you think I'm bias that's cool, I'm just speaking on what we have seen. I'm not gonna ride this Sony pony with what Sony is giving you. But anyway thanks for your time and have a great night guys !!

Sony have been very clever with what they say. I was watching a podcast the other day and it mentioned that you can download a game using an app on your phone or using the PSN website and it'll turn your PS4 on and download your game for you. What they didn't mention though was that the PS4 is always-on, which it must be in order to use that feature.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Something technical to read here, but i have quoted a point that stood out for me that i found on Neowin.

Quote:

Main Memory Speeds, Feeds, and Coherency:
The CPUs connect to four 64b wide 2GB DDR3-2133 channels for a grand total of 68GB/sec bandwidth. Do note that this number exactly matches the width of a single on-die memory block. One interesting thing to note is that the speed of the CPU MMU’s coherent link to the DRAM controller is only 30GBps, something that strongly suggests that Microsoft sticks with Jaguar’s half-clock speed NB. If the NB to DRAM controller is 256b/32B wide, that would mean it runs at about 938MHz, 1.88GHz if it is 128b/16B wide.
SemiAccurate would be very surprised if it was 128b wide, wires are cheap, power saving areas not. Why is this important? Unless Microsoft’s XBox One architects are masochists that enjoy doing needless and annoying work they would not have reinvented the wheel and put an arbitrarily clockable asynchronous interface between the NB and the CPU cores/L2s. Added complexity, lowered performance, and die penalty for absolutely no useful upside is not a good architectural decision. That means the XBox One’s 8 Jaguar cores are clocked at ~1.9GHz, something that wasn’t announced at Hot Chips. Now you know.
People are saying this means that MS bumped up the CPU speed as well as the GPU speed which was announced a little while ago and there is a hell of alot of custom stuff in there, hopefully it is good news.

Tesco have now sold out of the Day One Edition, i am glad i got my order in in time, but i also have concern that there won't be enough units to go around.

I now have to work out which 2 games i want to import and where to import them from.

Best import site suggestions if anyone has any? I currently know of Play Asia.

Does anyone have any info on the cost for digital downloads as i am close to buying the disk version of Battlefield 4 for £42 and £45 for Forza 5?

Edit

I think i just answered my own question and i don't like the result.........

Black Ops 2 for X360 = £49.99 on Xbox Live but only £23 on Amazon, now if that is how digital downloads will be on X1 then i don't think they will take off anytime soon unless the person buying doesn't care about their wallet.

It's up and down and you can't really bring the PC into the digital download war otherwise it wins all day.

Microsoft charge premium prices for Digital Downloads and take you for a ride. An example would be the game Rainbow Six Vegas, classic game and sells for about £9 new or as low as £3 used.

Microsoft see fit to charge up to £19.99 and only go as low as £14.99 for a game that's years old.

To make this idea really take off there's no other way to do it but copy Steam. At the end of the day though games will still be cheaper and look better on a PC.

Kinect placement was a concern I had... From the early photos we saw it looked like a beast, but I saw a side by side recently and it's pretty much the same size as the current Kinect. The new one doesn't move, so you should just be able to hang it on top of the TV...hopefully...

With stock of the day one edition becoming hard to find in the UK, you can still currently order it direct from Microsoft if anyone is still looking and hasn't found one yet.

September 29th may possibly be the day where you guys will see the true spec sheet for the console.
At the moment, some specs are still concealed, most likely due to competition.

That is something i am looking forward to as there is alot more going on under there than just basic PC specs.

eSRAM is said to be in 4 banks with low latency memory bandwidth, not that it means much to me but from what i have read it is something special for a console rather than just brute forcing it like a PC or PS4.

We may get the Xbox One release date sometime today, also the Xbox One is now in full production with a CPU boost from 1.6 GHz to 1.75 GHz, this is in addition to the 800MHz to 853MHz GPU clock speed boost reported a while back.

I don't think they will sell as many as the PS4, and i can't see it dropping in price but if it did they may match the PS4 price i guess.

I just hope the games look nextgen on my TV and are as good as the PS4.

It seems the Xbox maybe alot closer to the PS4 in power than previously thought, and from what i have seen most Xbox One games are running at 1080P/60 compared to the PS4s 30 frames a second( not sure why that is), but i am no fanboy and from what i have seen from the Xbox One/ps4 demos the games look awesome on both consoles.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

There's going to be disappointing sales all round and I'm happy with that. I'm not going to be duped into £500 to play a so called Next-Gen FIFA 14 on either new console. They didn't use the ignite engine for the current gen for this reason regardless of the fact all consoles can run it. Call of Duty will be the same and so on.

GTA V and Rockstar have got it totally right by dropping it on this gen of consoles and not the newer ones. Top sales and a record breaker. Come E3 next year MS and Sony will base their entire conferences on price drops and new games. Guaranteed.

It's not going to look 'Next-Gen' for at least a year for obvious reasons. Developers only really started making great looking games in the last few years of the Xbox 360's lifespan. RDR and LA Noire are prime examples of this.

It also does not help the case when Microsoft insist on playing their games on a GTX 780 and calling it Xbox One footage.

It's easy enough to say GTA V will look better than most NG titles on launch but again it's obvious why. Rockstar are not stupid and we'll see GTA 6 on Xbox one that looks even better when they have time to develop such a game and optimize it for that platform, the sole reason it's unlikely we'll see GTA V on the new consoles, if you're going to do it, do it properly.
