Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Tried the beta of it and it was still as bad as Windows 8.
Not going to bother with Windows 8.1 since it still will not work with all the games I play, still will not accept a overclock for benchmark runs. Not to mention Windows 8 has also been removed as a valid version of Windows on HWBot so Microsoft are going to get, people buying or cracking Windows 7 so the can run the benchmarks again. I just hope that Windows 9 or what ever it ends up being called doesn't suffer the same problems, either that or game developers and benchmark creator's start working with Linux so I can, stop giving money to MS for software that needs to add on's for it to work properly or requiring you to buy, a new motherboard. |
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
what games don't work ? I do not tend to play old games anymore and all the new ones ive played except one work fine and the one the did not did not work on 7 either
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Most of the Call Of Duty games don't work on it properly for me, some of the Need For Speed, Crysis and a few others.
I think also it may be down to the fact that Windows 8/8.1 also doesn't like my motherboard, SSD and sound card. |

I honestly think it's a hardware issue that is causing it but at the moment I don't have the funds available to mess around, swapping ssd's, sound card and motherboard as they are not cheap and I have my some of my brothers wedding to pay for.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Some nice new additions, they have taken into account the fact that not everyone is an idiot and might want to boot into desktop instead of the mobile phone interface, the start button is not a real start button but its better than there previous abortion of a start button. Some rumours on the net say that Microsoft might offer the facilitator to revert to the commonly known desktop in the next upgrade. Will play with it a bit longer and see how it goes.

start 8 is a much much better shell than any of the free ones. Just saying cuz I looked at some others and they are poo in comparison. I dunno why you see tiles Sirius I only do when I want to and I have an app that runs win 8 apps in a resizable window which works well
as you can see by the pic I have taken control of win 8 and made its appearance how I want it. If I want to use tiles I can and easily open and close the apps at will |
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I use classic shell, doesn't seem poo to me.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
What is wrong in just setting the tiles to open in APP format, is that not any good as i haven't installed it yet but i will do when it officially comes out? :)

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Got a strange one hopefully easy to fix. On Win 8.1 trying to download an attachment from a couple of sites using IE and all I get is attachment.php works fine in Chrome any ideas? Protected mode off btw
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
There's a Godmode shortcut that lists all the settings for Win 8.
Create a new folder on the desktop and call it GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} |

Microsoft to Roll Out Windows 8.1 at 4 AM PDT (11 AM GMT)
Microsoft will release Windows 8.1 RTM in the Store today, with a new report claiming that the global rollout will begin at 4 AM PDT (11 AM GMT). According to TechCrunch, the Windows 8.1 update will be launched gradually across the world, with the Unites States to be among the first countries to get it. Windows 8.1 will be available as a free download from the Windows Store and Microsoft has already made the necessary adjustments to make sure that everyone would be able to download it via multiple updates. This morning, Windows 8.1 got lots of app improvements, as Microsoft wants all RTM machines to be running the latest versions of the built-in tools at the time when the official launch takes place. Starting tomorrow, users will also be able to purchase retail packages of Windows 8.1, with the core license to be priced at $119.99 (€90), while the Pro version will cost $199.99 (€150) http://news.softpedia.com/news/Micro...T-391925.shtml |
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I wonder how long the update using the store will take as i go to work at 1pm! I guess i should wait until Friday morning unless the update takes 7 mins like the upgrade from Windows 7 to 8 took?
I hope there is somewhere were we can download a legit Windows 8.1 ISO and in future install that using my original upgrade key on a clean SSD/HDD without having to upgrade from an older OS? |
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion

Microsoft would be silly not to release a ISO as it been legit one was leaked by wzor and it made them release it on MSDN and TechNet that's what im using the leaked wzor one |

As i never use the store how do i check for this update, will it just appear in the top right hand corner of the store when an update is available?
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Do you have to be on W8 to get it or will it work on 7 (and install 8 at the same time)?
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
On windows 8 as it is a Windows 8 update.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Just as well I just put 8 back on top of my 7 :D
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
It has appeared now as a big box on the windows store to click, it is a 3.42GB update, i will do it in the morning or on Saturday.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I didn't think it was out until tomorrow!
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Feels that way. It still hasn't shown up for me yet.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
As an update today as a retail package tomorrow
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I will give it a try when I get chance but since I am being overloaded with work at the moment, I won't even have time this weekend to try it.
Just taking 5 minutes out from everything now to look at a few things. |

It has completely screwed my laptop so I'm very glad I did an image yesterday and it's going nowhere near my main PC!
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
What happened?
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
avg now doesn't work just crashes out - office doesn't work - steam doesn't work and it keeps poppng up with dll errors when trying to use IE11
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Ouch - mine is hovering on 72% 'gathering info'.
Had you tried the preview? |
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I did try the preview which is why I did an image yester day as it had problems too.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
It just asked me to restart - here goes...
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I am so glad I got the wroz ISO leak not one problem with it clean installs always best Microsoft is very silly indeed not releasing ISO files
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Just installed it, rebooted several times etc and now it's up and running. Other than the start button and what it does I don't really see any difference. IE11 looks just like 10. I'm guessing most of it is under the hood but visually I see little difference.

Thanks I will have to do it Saturday then, I was hoping it would take 7mins again.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I have now reformatted the laptop to a basic windows 8 install but can't access the app store to do the update.
I suspect it's all the people trying to get it ;) Try again in the morning I guess :) |

I just got in there fine

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Wow, already 4 updates were available this morning....
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Took me nearly seven hours to do mine. But I left it downloading overnight whilst sleeping, and just finished it off in about 5 minutes when I woke up.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I got it all working on my laptop in the end but I'm not so sure it'll be going on my main pc any time soon.

Whats the deal with the Start button then? Just takes me to the tiled UI (ex-metro) UI. Wasn't it supposed to give you a complete list of apps now?

Nope. But you can 'swipe' down on metro to your apps. Right clicking the start button gives you options too.
|
Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
It is the extended build number I am looking for :) From what I can see there is no option to upgrade the 8.1 RTM I have been running for ages so it is likely to be the same. The extended number gives the build date and is reachable in reg or by downloading AIDA64 trial ( New name for Everest) :)

Is there a proper Microsoft kosher Win 8.1 ISO to download now? I'd like a copy of it for when I do a complete re-install over Christmas.
