I'm surprised it took him that long. It was the only way to go. He's achieved a lot, and deserves respect, but you simply can't stay after the fiasco that was Euro2012

Ramos! Fabregas! Spain need to switch it up from the go in the final. The subs have made a huge difference.

The Spanish coach seems to insist on playing a very unbalanced side, at one point he had 6 central midfielders on the pitch . He took the only striker off then put two wingers on:rolleyes: Spain progressed in spite of the coach not because of him.

Re: Euro 2012

my point exactly. Xavi looks burnt. Pedro showed more. Navas the fullback getting forward. even with the current 4-6 you need players able to show sparks or its dull and as it has been Spain just about getting it done. tactically you could say it works to control the game or whatever but Portugal proved its risky as it is and against Germany todays tactic will ruin them

i think Navas fullback and Pedro or Fabregas for Xavi for the final. As for the lone striker.. Torres or Llorente. Negredo done nothing.

Well they've progressed to the final. He is getting results.

Spain, I am now pretty sure, know what they are doing. They seem to keep possession in midfield to draw out the opposition defence and create space in front of the goal and avoid being at risk of a break. They are not scoring as much but nor are they conceding as much.

The problem for Spain going into this tournament was that people had suspected they had been 'figured out'. A blueprint on how to defeat Spain was drawn up in the Chelsea and Inter wins against Barcelona. You don't go to play football, you confine them to the edge of your box and force them to shoot from afar. You sit back in a frankly absurd position and soak up their pressure and, as they get increasingly frustrated and commit more men forward, you await your chance to break. It worked for Chelsea, it could work against Spain.

They have effectively neutralised that threat. They won't be drawn to the edge of their opponents box and hope for an opening. Instead they keep the ball in midfield and await an opening as the opposing team comes to them. They can't be broken against and there will be spacing opening up between the defence and midfield.

They have a clear tactical plan and it's working, although not brilliantly. However they've got to a third successive final without any of their players setting the championships alight and without playing strikers. Can't pretend that isn't a success.

England's tournament wasn't a complete failure given the player material. Holland's tournament was. They scored two goals, and didn't collect a single point. It's their worst tournament performance ever. That's a failure, particularly given the team's record under Van Marwijk.

It's not as good to watch though.

No sympathy for him here.

I don't understand... There was a strategy for him to take the final kick (which is a big pressure kick in itself).

Me too.

I hate Spain even before yesterday. And I hate all the gushing commentary that follows them whenever they play.

I hope Germany stuff them on Sunday!

One of the benefits of seeing England go out is that I can watch the other teams without caring or worrying too much about who gets through and who doesn't. :D

I'd quite like to see a Spain v. Italy final tbh, the Germans mustn't have everything their way... lol

Michel Platini says Euro 2020 could be spread across continent.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18657633

Quote:

Uefa president Michel Platini says the 2020 European Championship could be spread across various cities in Europe, rather than having a single host.
Traditionally one or two countries have hosted the tournament, which is being held in Poland and Ukraine this summer.
The next competition in 2016 will be hosted by France.
"The Euros in 2020 could be held all over Europe," said Platini. "It could be either one country and 12 stadiums, or one stadium in 12 or 13 cities

Think it's live? Think Again.

UEFA has come under fire in Germany for allowing prerecorded scenes to be cut into live coverage of games from the European Championships.

Images of a German fan crying after Mario Balotelli's second goal in Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Italy were in fact taken before the semifinal, when she was overcome with emotion during the anthems.

The issue came to light when the woman received e-mails from friends at home wondering why she was so upset with almost an hour still to play.

''We are surprised and irritated,'' Joerg Schoenenborn, the Euro 2012 chief editor of German broadcaster ARD, told Saturday's Sueddeutschen Zeitung newspaper. ''These pictures aren't acceptable for us, especially since we spoke to UEFA about this problem a few days ago. We're now looking for further talks.''

UEFA told The Associated Press that it was striving to show ''the human story of the game'' in its television coverage, and had ''no aim whatsoever to exercise any form of control over the images delivered to broadcasters.''

<snip>
ARD had first sought UEFA's clarification after Germany coach Joachim Loew was shown playfully knocking a ball from a ball boy's arm during the country's group game against Netherlands, despite the incident happening before the game took place.
