Quote:

Publicity surrounding the fifth season of Mad Men, the first to air on Sky Atlantic, promised surprises and unexpected figures. And Tuesday night's episode certainly delivered them: admirers of the series will do an amazed double-take at overnight figures that show only 47,000 viewers tuned in. This level of audience is associated with extreme niche arts, religion or politics programmes rather than a drama that was previewed in almost every available editorial or advertising forum – including this one – in the months leading up to its return.

Apart from the irony of a show about commercial salesmen being the subject of a failed mass-marketing campaign, this startling decline in the membership of the Don Draper fan club reveals two interesting truths about television.
To say these are dismal figures are a understatement and perhaps its time for Sky to make this channel available to a extra 4 million viewers.:)

If they were overly concerned I'm sure it would be on more platforms already , it's probably worth more as a USP along with Sky Sports 3,4, F1 HD.

Sky to invest in British TV films for Sky Movies, Sky Atlantic.

Quote:

Sky has confirmed plans to make a "multi-million pound" investment in commissioning more feature-length British films for television, as it seeks to prove its credentials as a backer of homegrown talent.

The satellite TV giant said that the funding will be primarily directed at two "distinct and complementary" strands - new movies for family audiences to be shown on Sky Movies, and new documentary films for Sky Atlantic.

Sky to broadcast Eurosport's 3D Olympics coverage.

Quote:

Sky has confirmed plans to offer the 3D coverage of London 2012 to be produced by Eurosport to all Sky+ HD subscribers with a 3D TV set.

Eurosport, the pan-European broadcaster of the Olympics, plans to air more than 100 hours of 3D coverage over the course of the Games this summer.

As part of a deal with Sky, this coverage will be showcased on the Sky 3D channel, which launched in October 2010 and is now enjoyed by more than 250,000 Sky subscribers.

The channel has previously just been available to customers taking the top tier Sky World subscription package, but for the duration of the Games Sky is unlocking Sky 3D to more than 4m homes with a Sky+ HD subscription, enabling them to watch the Eurosport coverage.

To access the Olympic 3D action, customers will need to purchase a 3D TV and then connect it to their 3D-ready Sky+ HD box.

Sky 3D will air exclusive 3D action from Eurosport every day during the Games, including around eight hours of live coverage and four hours of highlights from each day.

Sky: UK, Germany and Italy commit to 3D

Quote:

Over two intensive days at MIPtv which focused entirely on 3DTV, senior staff from BSkyB, Sky-Deutschland and Sky Italia, all confirmed their commitment to growing their investment in 3DTV.
John Cassy, BSkyB’s director of 3D said that while he could not be specific about numbers, he was already budgeting an increased spend in 2013 as part of Sky’s five-year plan for 3DTV. “All our viewer satisfaction rankings go through the roof for 3D,” he told delegates at MIPtv’s 3DTV Focus event in Cannes.

They use shotgun cable so one wire to each box , the wire splices into two to give you your two inputs per box.

That is the Standard Sky+HD box the same as my two , it uses 1% space per episode if you download it in HD. The Sky+HD is actually a 500gb with 250gb personal planner and 250gb for Anytime meaning 60hrs HD personal recording.

'Mad Men' ratings on pay-TV defended by Sky Atlantic

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/media/s1...-atlantic.html

Quote:

A Sky executive has responded to criticism of the low audience figures for Mad Men on Sky Atlantic, accusing people of making "misleading conclusions" about the show's popularity on pay-TV.

Season five of the acclaimed drama, poached by Sky from the BBC for the launch of Sky Atlantic in 2011, was seen by an average of 72,000 viewers across its double episode premiere on the Sky exclusive channel on March 27.

Episode one pulled in 98,000 viewers, while episode two slumped to just 45,000. In contrast, the season four premiere on BBC Two was seen by 360,000 last year.

However, Naomi Gibney, the acting director of Sky Atlantic, accused "one or two people" of making "misleading conclusions" about the show's popularity due to the viewing figures

My viewing wouldn't count for any show on Atlantic ever. I don't think I've even been on channel 108 live yet most of my viewing is from that channel!

Sky to update EPG in May, we go hands-on

Quote:

Sky is set to roll-out a new and improved electronic programme guide (EPG) to customers from the end of May and Pocket-lint has already had a walkthrough of the new interface.

Shown to us behind close doors, the bad news is that we weren't able to take any photos of the new interface as Sky informed us that many of the final details of how it will look and work are still being put through their final testing stages.

Shared planner was the first thing that came to my mind too. But also hopefully this means that we are closer to planner access on the Sky+app.

IMO the Sky+ app has the most potential of anything Sky is currently doing on the technology front. Once they add the planner to the app they could potentially add as much as they want to allow people who wish to use their phones etc to control their stb, e.g. never miss could be incorporated.

I agree it also limits the need for expensive hardware as advanced search , viewing the planner , remote record , never miss can all be integrated and used on companion devices.
