I'm only on my second sales person, but call nearly 50 minutes long! Neither have a clue about the emails going out and certainly not about the pricing. This is a little ridiculous really!! Getting fed up of being on hold now, but no way am I gonna hang up and start again...

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Got email.. phoned up, and spoke to extremely helpful support guy.. and TiVo install booked in next Wednesday between 1pm and 6pm.

I'm currently on VIP20, and am paying the £7 per month HD charge (in the absence of any 'new and improved VIP offering'), and will be paying the £3 per month TiVo service charge too.. so I reckon once I've got this in and running, I'll look to migrate to VIP50...

Am I right in thinking VIP50 includes the HD charge and the TiVO service charge, right? If so, then I'll probably end up saving money in order to get faster broadband.

Regardless, I can't wait for my install next week. :D

Dean

42 minutes and all booked. Never once asked for my "unique code" mind! Was told I wasn't allowd to keep my V-HD, have to keep the V+ which surely cannot be correct!? I don't need to record upstairs and would rather have a fast reliable box than one that crashes every 2 minutes to be honest.

Email received at 10:18am

Called the number at about 10:35 and was on hold for over 20 minutes until someone answered. Said I would like to order the Tivo please.
He said do you want to add a box or replace I said replace.
He said so replace the V+ with the Tivo? I said no the old non HD with the Tivo as I believe I can keep the V+ with no extra charge. Can I put you on hold for a minute please.......obviously asking someone if he can do this.
Says ok no problem so that will be £149.95 on your next bill, no install charge £3 a month charge and new 12 month contract.
I said well according to the email I have as I am on VIP50 I will get the £3 a month charge waived. A few seconds check until he says oh yes that's right.

So let's see when we can get the install for you.....I am expecting Easter or after to be honest. Thursday ok for you Sir? WHAT?!?!? :Yikes: as in the 14th? Yes. Erm ok stick me down for the morning. :hyper:

All booked etc and never at any point asked for the 'unique code' on my email.

Fingers crossed for all the others still waiting but at least you know it is on it's way now.

But do we do as richardc1983 did? If people are bypassing the arranged system but we're sat here following the rules, we're the ones that loose out with potentially far off install dates.

Surely, VM have set out a procedure and they should enforce it?

Everyone is going to get an email at some point today or coming days so the original email said the 11th so I would just ring today! THey are taking orders as long as your pre reg. Your not cheating the system this way.

But surely it would get waived whichever of the two boxes you take, as the £3 is a service charge for the TiVo features, not the box.

Tthe £149.95 / £49.95 is your "Upfront rental charge" for the box itself. Which is what the OP should have been comparing. Monthly service fees will vary between customers (VIP, non-VIP and any other category of offer VM may decide to make available)

Seems I was not the only one getting a sales person who seemed to have no clue about the email or options/pricing etc.

I suppose it was bound to happen with the first few but hopefully by the times it gets to tomorrow these guys will have had a day of us giving them grief they will know all about it. :D

You may not be cheating 'the system' but you may well be upsetting any plans Virgin Media put in place for the number of calls they should expect today. You and other selfish people may be part of the reason for the poor service received by many people trying to (correctly) order TiVo today.

Possibly. Then again, with the changes to expectations with the 1TB model and this launch and the £3 and £40 waived... who knows.

As I have not been getting the mails for Tivo, since before the Dear Dean (even though I pre-registered)

I googled for the number and after alot of being on hold now have a install date for Wednesday.

No code asked for....

Shame about the 500GB box being so cheap considering the price of Hard Drives (bought 2TB for £60 the other day) and that being the only difference between the boxes.

I keep reading this bit at the bottom of my email and I'm not completely clear of what they are saying:

And an extra special offer.

We don't take entertainment lightly. And if you've got a demanding family, only a hefty package of TV, broadband and calls will be big enough to keep everyone happy. As one of our top customers, we'd love to upgrade your VIP bundle. You'll get up to 50Mb broadband and enjoy our brand new TiVo box. We'll even waive the standard £3 monthly TiVo fee. You'll get Sky Movies and Sky Sports in full HD glory. Upgrading to this experience will cost £100.55 a month. The choice is yours, simply add a TiVo box for an additional £3 a month or upgrade to a new VIP experience.

is this after the purchase of a TIVO or are they offering me a VIP bundle including TIVO for £100.55/mo?

That will be £149 for the Tivo then £100.50 on going if you upgrade. They seem to have targeted the emails better this time, as I am already VIP 50 my email stated no monthly fee at the top.

It's clear that they are saying that you can have TiVo for the one-off payment of £149.95 and they'll add £3 per month to your current monthly bill or you should consider moving to VIP50 which costs £100.55 per month and might be better than £3 more than your current monthly outlay. Either way, you have to pay the £149.95 to get TiVo.

The actual thing that doesn't help the situation, is VM setting out an ordering proceedure for Pre-regs and then ignoring their own rules.

Well, rang up and ordered. Actually handled my request well except had to remind them it was a swap of my V+ and not an addition. Apart from that all ordered and install is this Saturday afternoon. Was even offered this Thursday but could not be home for that day. So a quick install was offered for a pre-registered customer.

I’ve just purchased a new car as well which I pick up on Friday, my wife said “I’m going to be all exited this weekend then” Too right, a very happy chappy and looking forward to the Tivo install this Saturday.:hyper:

Just off the phone after 15 minutes on hold. The call centre seemed confused because I wanted to keep the boxes I have and not just swap one for TiVo. I have been informed I need to pay another £6.50 per month as an additional box charge and am waiting for a call re install.

Does this charge sound right? I presently am VIP50 with a V+ and 2 other boxes.

Yes £6.50 a month is the standard charge if you have "multiroom" i.e. more than one box in a household with their own feed (in your case an extra box on top of your VIP boxes).

Got it!!!!:woot:

When I called the special number I spoke to a lady from Eastern Europe who was very friendly but seemed to be desperately in need of some training. She tried to charge me for keeping my two V+ boxes. When I told her to forget the Tivo (brave man me) she went off for 15 minutes while I held on listening to some garbled information about what seemed to be advertising "Talk Talk", very strange. When she eventually returned it was to apologise for the delay and to tell me I can keep the two V+ boxes free of charge. I am using the Tivo to replace a Samsung V HD box.

Installation on Friday morning April 15th.:cleader:

Thanks to DF for the information and despite earlier comments on this forum he was spot on with his predictions. As he stated they have sent out emails beginning April 11th.

BOTH times i rang sales, they didn't even know what a tivo box was, the guy asked me if i was saying "cable" box!
Needless to say the numbers that i did get luck with were just saying wait for the email, so either people on here are LYING or there is a a total farce of an ordering system in place thats letting people NOT entitled to order it without a code order anyway!
I am swaying towards the latter!

you will see the TiVo charge on the bill, but you should see a bigger discount on your bundle to cancel it out.

Ben is better around package pricing than me though! :D

Needless to say the numbers that i did get luck with were just saying wait for the email, so either people on here are LYING or there is a a total farce of an ordering system in place thats letting people NOT entitled to order it without a code order anyway!
I am swaying towards the latter!

So who do you think is lying on here or do you not want to say.

Also you will need to have pre registered and also received an email advising you to call up to order a TiVo.

Haha I got the garbled hold message too... it kept going "BT, TalkTalk", and now I've got that in my head. Not very good advertising from VM you'd have to think :)

Anyway, all went smoothly and installation booked for Wednesday. I must add my thanks to DF for keeping us in the loop.

Hi and just a quick question to DF (or anybody else in the know) with regards to the 500gb TIVO. I've not had any email yet with regard to pre-ordering the 1gb box, but was wondering can the 500gb box be pre ordered, when I finally receive my email, or will I have to wait until May.

Thanks in advance.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

OK, so I'd like to get Tivo, but my better half uses quite a few of the features on V+ that haven't yet made it to Tivo, like recording to VHS/DVD whilst watching something different, reminders etc.

I also have a VHD (not V+) box in the back room as part of my VIP20 package, so I'm thinking, go for the Tivo deal and replace the back room VHD with Tivo, keeping the V+ in the living room for the time being. Then, when the missing features are added, or when the wife gets used to Tivo, switch the boxes round.

My question is, could I just change the two boxes (Tivo and V+) over myself when the time comes, or would it need another visit, activation fees, install charges etc.?

What it shows on my bill is the £3 charge for TIVO and also a credit for the charge.

Also in regards to the VIP50 charge I am still been charged £100.55 as that is now the charge for the bundle.

Another question not sure if you know the answer , my parents are on triple XL mates rate package , can they still swap their V+ for a 500gb TIVO if they wish for 49.95 plus 40 install , they haven't pre registered however my dads in the same boats as many on here the V+ fills up to quickly with HD.

Thanks DF.

Don't mind waiting until May, and pricing wise can afford this version more than the 1tb version. For those that pre-registed but don't take up the 1tb offer, will we receive another email closer to the May launch date with regards to the 500gb Tivo? Or will it just be left to ourselves to place an order when the available? Not expecting any further special offers or anything, just an email stating the smaller Tivo can now be ordered.

Thanks again, really appreciate all the info you offer on here.

Even though I can't see if I've got the email yet (last paragraph) I'd likely have received this one. Though I've got to say they give the wrong impression with the above message. They don't seem to mention that the inclusive Sky Premium HD is only for 1 box. Unless they've changed their minds on that which I doubt.

Gonna have to do some calculations (and looking at bill) tonight to see what works out cheapest. I'm on VIP 20 (both boxes being V+) and have Sky HD Premium on both boxes but I've got a retentions deal in place which keeps it around the £100 mark.

I can't even access my emails at the moment. Whenever I try to log in through the webmail link on virgin google comes back with a server error. Overloaded or just me?

DF, I assume that a cool off period applies to this installation and 12 month contract? i.e. if you have have second thoughts after it is installed that you can cancel and go back to V+?

I would also assume that you pay the £40 in that circumstance?

I ask because unfortunately I'm waiting for a long running customer complaint to be resolved and may back out and jump ship to Sky or Freesat. But if the issue does get resolved, I don't want to have missed out on the TiVo offer.

As far as I know once it's installed then that's it. 28 MBG wouldn't apply as it's not a new service but an upgrade to an existing service

oh dear VM what a botched launch it appears for anyone who regged in Dec 2010 and orders on day 1 of launch and still could have to wait til June 2011 for install

either shortage of engineers or TiVo's or just plan over subscribed for this area or more likely very poor forward planning from VM

It takes more than 30 minutes to install and the are 50,000 plus preregistered customers so how many engineers do you think Virginmedia actually have.

That is true as I have looked at the contract that I received when I got TIVO and it says about the 7 days, but the 28 day mbg is only if you have taken it as a new service.

yes got an email from virgin Media today

it reads

Dear *******

Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo is here.

But before the TiVo boxes officially go on sale, you'll remember we promised you an exclusive chance to get one. And here it is.

Virgin Media customers go to the front of the queue.

With enough storage space for around 500 hours of standard TV, or around 100 hours of HD TV, demand is expected to be high when our 1TB TiVo box officially goes on sale. So to ensure you're first in line, make sure you call us on 0800 408 2159 and buy yours now.

An exclusive price for Virgin Media customers and an extra special offer.

We don't take entertainment lightly. That's why we're offering our VIP customers, with our up to 50Mb or up to 100Mb broadband, the opportunity to upgrade to TiVo for no additional monthly fee. It's normally £3.

Order our 1TB TiVo box now and it'll only cost £149.95 to activate your box. That's an exclusive customer-only price (to everyone else, it 's £199.95). And, because you were one of the first to pre-register, we won't charge you an installation fee either. So that's an extra £40 you can keep in your pocket.

Coming 16th May Our 500GB Tivo Box Exclusively For Exsisting Customers

Tivo 500GB Box

Storage for 250 Hours of Standard Tv

£49.95 For Box Activation

£3 additional monthly fee on TV XL

£40 Installation fee applies

Actually I think it's tomorrow.

The emails are being sent to VIPs first, then XL, then others customers, and lastly non-customers. It will take several days for them all to be sent.

Oh, and there are several different phone numbers, so please don't call any numbers posted on the internet. It's probably the wrong one for you.

Thanks, the 28 day mbg was a question out of interest, as VM's own documentation says 28 days applies when taking out a new contract or adding new service. TiVo is regarded as a new service isn't it?

But really that's not a problem, I just wanted to check the 7 day cooling off applies (which legally it should). Fingers crossed my CS woes will be sorted out and this will be a moot point anyway.

Thanks
