As far as I recall Digital Fanatic (staff) did say Red Button is launching in 3 stages.

First it will be a sort of 'soft launch' with not all content available, then Tivo and then a full service from the start of the next football season.

Maybe VM have a webpage detailing the scheduled red button events?, just a thought and might be worth a look.

On Sky's EPG for SSP It says from 4pm red button is available for the Bulls v the Chiefs.

I assume it will be the same on cable?

I'm sure it said super rugby was available on VM that's what that game Mersey is stating is I think.

The Rugby Red Button evcent VM mention is Super League in May.

There is a schedule of events coming up including Masters Tennis and the Rugby Super League in May. (Events are subject to change without notice).

But they do say "including" so who knows....

Yip, that's the game/s I'm after. I had heard it mentioned before that the Super XV rugby would be covered, but I still want to know how I can tell what content will be available or not without waiting to see.
Thanks for the replies.

Bulls, Sharks, Stormers= South African provincial sides.
Chiefs=New Zealand provincial side.

Probably be a red button saying rugby in bottom right hand corner of screen.

I have a feeling you will get that game.

A bit of publicity wouldn't go a miss though but it's early days and it's obviously a pretty 'soft' launch. Maybe they are being cautious publicising red button events so not to rub Tivo customers noses in it.

Let's face it for such a genuinely major new service launching it was low key to say the least but it's launched which is the most important thing.

I'm really quite impressed at VM getting it. It isn't often I overly praise Virgin but I wouldn't underestimate it's importance. The sports offer wasn't good enough without it, in my opinion.

What Sky do to counteract it is anyones guess though, if and when News Corp get Sky I expect the gloves will be off once again, they seem to be being too nice for me (maybe to keep the regulators sweet)

Very simple. The launch of the RB was always going to be a soft launch. Full launch in time for new footie season AFAIK. Better some RB activity than none at all but I guess some people will find any reason to moan.

I only wanted to know where I could find information regarding SS red button content. If I don't know in advance when it will be available it might as well not have launched. I know that it is not a full service yet, but if we don't know what will be covered how do we plan our viewing?

I don't think we can Buzzman, apart from seeing if RB is mentioned in the Sky listings and then tuneing in to see if it appears on VM.

The only other place you can look is here.

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...CUSTOMER_TYPE=

It gives some infor as o what RB we will see on VM but it's not comprehensive by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks Mobes, that is the kind of answer I was after. A bit surprised though, as for it to be of use to me I need to know at least an hour before the event if I need to go to the pub to watch or not. As it is right now I can't see myself hanging about to see if a game will be shown or not. I'm also surprised that others are not finding this inconvenient.

What red button service is available now on VM with SSP 2? (Chelsea v Tottenham)

There is no fanzone available on Sky's red button through their own platform today, just highlights, stats and match facts.

Maybe fanzone is only available on Super Sunday, I dont really know.

It's working on Sky but not much to write home about today other than highlights and goal flashes.

I wonder why they have fired up the 14 interactive streams as they don't seem to be getting used much, let's see if match choice pops up at 1015.

Let's face it though VM's publicity of the service has been a bit watered down too. We have no idea what the contract involved and whether it has to be staggered, whatever the reason.

I have a hunch (just my opinion) they don't want to upset the blessed Tivo customers too much when they have shelled out for a service that cannot even provide BBC red button never mind Sky, it might keep people with V/V HD/V+ a bit longer if the full red button was available on those boxes now. What those 14 streams are providing though is anyones guess, they definitely seem to have comparable capacity to Sky's red button services.

It will pan out, I think it will be a pretty comprehensive service eventually.

There's only a few EPL rounds of matches left anyway this season.

It will be a shocker if Sky throw a few vital games behind the red button on the final day, which they have done before.

It will be a shocker if Sky throw a few vital games behind the red button on the final day, which they have done before.

If they throw a vital game behind the red button then vm by law should make it work before end of season

They never have before. Red Button has been around believe it or not since 1998.

VM are catching up in 2011!

Why it took ntl/vm 13 years to get it

Because they flogged their channels to Sky and pretty much gave up on content which in my opinion was wise and in return got the HD channels and red button.

NTL/VM don't exactly have a very good record in the content field when left to their own devices, that's best left to Sky in my opinion.

WHat the next VM red button event?

Virgin cannot compete with Sky in terms of content because Sky have very deep pockets and Virgin which replaced Ntl in name only is in debt because of cable being poorly run before they came along, cable is in much better shape now than it was before.

:confused::confused:

At the moment it would be inaccurate to describe the red button as "launched", more like "being trialled" with a few random, alternative sports events being covered.
Other than the cricket on Thursday, has there been any other red button content available to VM customers? (I genuinely don't know the answer to this)

You see this is what is confusing.

I can 100% confirm VM have utilised 14 streams for SSP red button so it can't be down to capacity.

I think it's something else and I don't believe it's Sky's fault either, they have made it available.

Personally myself mersey70 i am increasingly thinking it may well not get a full launch until its ready to go on TiVo probably around the next EPL season, until then i think its more then likely random events that we will get wind of late on.

I think that too.

To me it wouldn't do to fully launch it on 12 year old Pace boxes before Tivo.

I doubt this shortcoming is down to Sky

What I meant about capacity is actually about the ability that they are able to show at the moment. Sorry for the confusion?

Why would they be as they have just got the service and trying the best for all the customers that they have.

I doubt its down to sky either.

It seems a very soft launch probably so it does not upset TiVo users,it did work very well though on my box for the cricket i prressed the button and bang the cricket was there i have a S/A v+.

I don't know this as fact mate, just saying it as I see it.

At the moment no one will know what is on or when, basically if you see a red button then it is on otherwise not.

Agreed, for me at least.

I think this is down to VM and it could be for any manner of reasons.

I doubt it's Ruperts fault this time. He has provided 15 HD channels AND red button in the last 12 months so the old chestnut of Sky witholding content is starting to wear a bit thin with me.
