I'm sure I just heard on SKY NEWS - Business section within the last couple of minutes, that Sky Sports 1 & 2 HD available on Virgin from 1st July. Prices still to be announced.

Apologies to any if this proves to be incorrect...Just reporting what I think I heard.

How would that be relevant? VMTV (the broadcaster) will continue to supply their channels to VM (the cable carrier) as they currently do. They also supply their channels to BSkyB, Freeview etc. so how do you perceive that things have changed?

Following regulator approval in Ireland, when Sky merge the VMTV operation into their existing Sky broadcasting organisation, VM (the cable carrier) will still be supplied with the channels and will reflect any changes accordingly. So, they will replace Living +2 on VM 159 with Living Loves and the same will likely happen on BSkyB 172.

Living +2 has really only ever been a place-holder in the EPG although I watch it a lot and will miss it.

Not seen that myself but there is the BT/Sky deal announced today for BT Vision to carry Sky Sports on its service. I would expect VM to announce something soon probably next week regarding HD.

I'm still getting normal programming on my V Box on Living +2 channel 159.

Are you talking about a message somewhere on the EPG that may not be showing on my V Box? How are you seeing it?

A HD version of Hallmark Channel will launch on Sky at 7pm tonight.

The station, which is available on Sky channel 220, will air major US series in the superior broadcast format.

"Hallmark Channel has a huge number of loyal viewers and I’m delighted that we can now deliver their favourite US shows like the Law & Order titles, CSI and Without A Trace in high definition to really maximise their enjoyment," said Laurence Dawkin-Jones, MD, of Universal Networks International in the UK. "Our channels really have never looked as good."

The launch takes the number of HD channels available on Sky to 45.

If you read the post MB has a v+ box and FELIM DOYLE has a v box. The v box on shows about 12 hours in fron and the v+ box has a seven day epg. :D

Hidden mean that channel will join on Demand or the red button.

_hid means hidden. These are something else and I note that the bulk of them are not provisioned for me (not subscribed). I don't subscribe to any premium channels...

The other clue is the amount of transport streams which it has gone up by, which in my case is to 48 from 36 and services (channels) to 328 from 316. If they were SD channels, then VM would be about to launch 120 of them (very unlikely) so it means there must be some HD in there somewhere.

The final clue, as I've mentioned before, is that the Irish competition authorities will make a decision on the Sky/VM deal soon, probably next week. The submission to them was on the 6th of June and they can take up to a month to decide these things.

Now, lets see who leaks it first what they are, I know who my bets are on.:)

the actual tests are numbered like channel numbers, however next to them it does say 'not provisioned' and I am subscribed to the movies channels. When you type in the number on the remote it just comes up 'incorrect channel number' If this was tests for red button, could it be for sky sports?? The 120 Horizon is talking about would be for SD launches, therefore if its all for hd channels this could be 15 new hd ones. Based on the fact that one hd channel roughly equates to 8 SD channels.

Sorry to disappoint, but I can exclusively reveal they are purely test channels - one on each of the new transport streams to make sure they are working correctly. They will be removed once the tests have been completed, then the real channels can be added.

Been wondering where you get the channel count info from? Is it deep in the menu system?

I'm sure it must be easier than counting them a page at a time on the TV Guide :erm:

Try this:
1) Press Home
2) Press 8 - Setting
3) Press 6 - Technical Stuff
4) Press Red - Page down until you get to page 3 (on V Boxes)
5) You will now see ''TS Streams'' on this page (3rd one down)

It's okay, Chris. I've been with VM (formerly NTL, formerly Cable & Wireless) for well over a decade and I still don't have a full knowledge of the differences between the various boxes and their EPGs. :shrug:

I ought to build a spreadsheet feature list and add to it as I come across details specific to a particular box. Unless, of course, someone knows a thread where this information is already posted.

For a start I'd like to know which ones have SD/HD and PVR capabilities and what rear (or front) panel connectors they all have (e.g. HDMI/DVI/SCART/RF/Composite/S-Video, various audio, Parallel/Serial/USB/Ethernet). Oh yeah, and what memory is installed in each type of box. I guess I'm looking at separate lists for hardware/firmware/software, EPG and remote control capability.

There are only two EPGs. One for the V+HD boxes with an eight day guide and one for the others with a 24 hour guide

From switching off analogue tv. A lot of the capacity is going to broadband though, which is why VM's bosses are confident when they are talking about 100mb launching at the end of the year and 400mb+ for the future.

ESPN America HD rumoured as set to launch in August?

As far as I know ESPN/Virgin Media talks are still ''ongoing'' but Nialli blog is reporting that ESPN America HD may launch on August 3rd.

Didn't someone get a reply from CS saying exactly that last month. I got a completely different answer and when I e mailed them again, I received a call from CS to say they would pass on my request for ESPN America in HD, but they had no news at that time.

but bot network are not the same yet they are near neought eh same but not quite there yet ;)

regardless of that though the numbers are down ot the boxes and how they read the info samsung read everything pac ei believe only what is avaiable so everything but interactive and hd not 100% sure on that one

At time of this post I have no other update on the missing ''Five'' Channels coming to Virgin.

But with Virgin testing out 12 new streams they may launch soon.

The IRISH COMPETITION AUTHORITY has ruled in favour of SKY buying VMTV channels, so we should hear something soon in regards to prices of the HD channels.

I noticed this paragraph in the ruling
so I am assuming that VM will have to wait to see if a full investigation is requested by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation which could delay any announcements?

Hopefully soon, they'll be some real channels on those tests that VM started yesterday. Which is of course a pure coincidence that the tests started one day before this announcement ...

.....the minute VM get the channels they'll launch them. That, I think, we can be sure of. Another couple of weeks I think.

Whether it be July or August, at least this "soon" is better than the old ntl soon meaning any time between now and the next century.:)

Now, any chance VM, can we please have a half decent EPG to go along with all these shiny new channels???

not always true !!!

VM did sit on HD channels they had access to in the past so they can launch a number at once. al least Sky do actually launce channels as they get carrage deals done hence the reason the new channels trickle out with little attention (hence the staggard launch of ESPN America HD and Hallmark HD one week apart).
VM seem to always be behind and very quiet than BANG we will get decent number channels and VM shout it from the rooftops to get attention even though they are always behind and playing catch up. its like a child shouting "look at me" when his older sibling is just like "shut up as ive been there and done that".

Someone has posted tonight on DS Forum that tests have launch on Virgin TV for FIVE HD.

As of time of posting I have not been told about this from any of my ''Virgin testers''.

I Have Notice today (Wednesday 30/6/2010) The Catch Up service is Playing up aswell when you click on all days could that mean demand five or sky player on catch up Testing already?.

Yes and Sky have brought forward their price increases for Sky Sports due to the announcement by BT re:prices. BT are now going to make a significant loss for each sub on their pricing of SS. It seems that Virgin have signed their own deal previously.

Top of the pic above the weather forecast says its a Technisat Mantis DVBC BDA Receiver, plus I have never seen anything like that screenshot on any of our boxes and the are no channel numbers just frequencies in the listings.

I have heard that 5 HD is being trialled so I believe everything else to be correct.

DVBC is a cable standard though and not satellite... Technisat could be a dodgy box :D

It's not a screenshot from any STB, The only actual TV bit in the screenshot is the Five weather map. The rest is the PC program for the receiver card.
