some very good flying there

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
So only a few more days until the last bmibaby flight on 9th September.
As the airline operating from my local airport (EMA) and with it's offices here I will miss this little airline as it had some great flights and I always found the air crews really helpful. |

Ground effect isn't that relevant at the speeds this thing will go at especially as there's no flaps down to reduce the stall speed.. hence my puzzlement at the "entire length" comment especially as the runway is nearly 3kms long (I know as I had to fod plod it more than once)

Great pics.. Nice to see the Meteor still flying
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
It was a fantastic day, there were over 150,000 there yesterday, which has broke their record. I suspect there were more yesterday than saturday because of the Vulcan.
It took me 2hours to get out of Southport town centre but it was worth it. |

Very nice. Don't make excuses for hand held - I always do hand held at airshows - a tripod is too limiting unless you have a gimball head. I tried a monopod at the last one - still way too restrictive - only had a horizontal pan head. |

After spending an 90 minutes to go 15 miles to the hotel on Saturday, we stayed for a meal on Sunday at La Quila on Eastbank Street before setting off home. That route out to the M58 was still queuing at 19:30 so we took the A565 via Ainsdale instead. |

The fast jets are on manoeuvres over Loch Lomond again. A Typhoon just went past the window, just about low enough for me to see what was in the pilot's lunch box. The aircraft had a tail fin painted solid green with a horizontal yellow stripe. Anyone know whose markings those are?

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
There have been a few diverts in to East Midlands due to this.
Good that there are no injuries. |
Glad nobody was hurt but none the less probably should not have happened in first place so maintenance is questionable
A shiny new BA world cargo 747-800 flew overhead today at low altitude, was bound for Hong Kong via Dubai. Could see all 4 engines clearly on it, noticed a few 747 flying low over here recently... Never used to. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner

There were a few last week taking Formula1 gear out overseas from EMA. |

I would have loved seeing this

I'm in Essex, near tilbury docks.
So not far from the Thames estuary. First 747 I saw low flying round here was a Qantas 747 one night, then other week a Cathay Pacific, and today a BA world Cargo 747-800. So flight routes must of been changed by ATC. Lol I have the plane finder app on my phone so whenever a plane flies over I see what it is. Normally Ryanair mainly who fly over here. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/09/17.jpg Bit dull as it was taken on my phone and a grey day out there today lol but you can get an idea how low it was. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner

They fly down towards here in a south eastern direction then shortly after here they seem to turn easterly almost following the Thames out to the channel and across to Europe.
All reasonably low altitude about 5000-8000ft. Only seen them directing 747s so far along that route. Ryanair come over here regularly but they just head south east and continue on that route... But they are always at higher altitudes. Shame they don't send A380 down here lol they direct them along past clacton over Chelmsford more. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Quote:
The jumbos are probably non-standard departures out of Heathrow if they are routing South East and they probably turn towards a waypoint called KOPUL (a GPS fix just NE of the Isle of Sheppey). Departures to the SE from Heathrow usually route via Detling and Dover on a track well South of your location. BTW you might see the A380 at high altitude over your place. Have you thought about getting a Radarbox or SBS to keep a track in realtime? |
Yep I think they are from Luton, interestingly though most over here are mainly Ryanair rather than other airlines.
Haven't seen an A380 over here yet, possible I've missed them but like you say departing they go further south and arriving they come in further north over Chelmsford way. The Qantas and Cathay pacific were probably Heathrow, BA one though I just checked the flight tracker ad it said Stansted. Hadn't thought about getting one, may well do one day though as that kinda thing interests me lol also like to get a radio receiver. At the moment just using a few phone apps, https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/09/13.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/09/14.jpg A bit empty compared to daytime lol because Heathrow runway is closed for a few hours this time of night. Really dead around 2-3am barely anything up there. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
A microADSB is cheap (the usb version with case and mobile antenna I got for only €75 and the newer ethernet verion is only €120 depending on if you want a case or not)
Couple that with planeplotter and it's a great tool for civil and military (a lot of the other apps that gets their data online only do not do military) |
Another one just flew over, BA 747-800
Lol strange flight plan.. Quite long https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/09/8.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/09/9.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/09/10.jpg ---------- Post added at 07:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ---------- Quote:

http://planefinder.net/mobile.php Great little app lol There's another one I use as well, great for tracking current aircraft position and flight history. Currently I'm tracking entire Singapore airlines a380 fleet.. Tells me which are in flight which are landed. "FlightAware" But flight aware isn't so great for real time traffic movements in current location. I prefer plane finder for that. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner

If you have a ADSB receiver then Planeplotter (only available on a PC) is the best as it offers a lot of feautures the others do not, like using ground stations and/or radar pings to map positionless aircraft, Sky view which shows the aircraft in relation to your eyes and it's cockpit view is great for seeing through Google earth from the planes position/course (followed an friends aircraft from Gatwick to Malta using this view once :) ) As for Military they just about all carry ADSB but don't always use it or have it transmitting positionless as in the EU only passenger aircraft have to have ADSB (US is even more lax atm but I believe they are playing catchup with the rules) |

http://www.vulcantothesky.org/appear...aft-tours.html Well worth doing to get up close: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/42.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/43.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/44.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/45.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/46.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/47.jpg https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/48.jpg It's worth doing just to support the effort to keep her in the air. There's a projected £800,000 shortfall over the next 12 months... |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Thanks for sharing :)
Yep definitely worth keeping in the air! Shame they can't do the same with Concorde, some of it is to do with fact Concorde was supersonic. The real crime is though that I read a while back a team of ex Concorde engineers actually got most of the electrics up and running and restored the hydraulic systems on the Manchester Concorde. Because they found the hydraulics hadn't been drained completely which preserved it. The airport initially supported it, then 1 day out of the blue pulled the plug and said stopped it all on the grounds of health and safety before ordering them to drain the hydraulics which effectively wrote the aircraft off in terms of future restoration as it was just luck it wasn't completely drained the first time. Shame, but I'm guessing there was more to it than just health and safety and bet BA had a hand in it when they got word. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Thanks for the photos Cobby. :tu:
I remember seeing her in Bruntingthorpe in the hangar when she first started being repaired and then taxi runs. Was lucky to see her over Cosby a few weeks ago too. It is great to see such an amazing aircraft being looked after. Just wish someone was doing the same with a Concorde. |
Agreed, unfortunately due to BA essentially still owning the aircraft not likely to happen anytime soon unfortunately.. BA has been the obstacle
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
F-BTSD, The Concorde at Le Bourget in Paris is in the best condition as far as I know.
It has several fuctioning systems still, however it is highly unlikely that it will ever fly again for many reasons. :( |

Once again the Daily Fail gets it wrong...it's because the airframe needs work to keep it compliant with the standards, and they only have the engines that are currently install to fly with. Nothing to do with restoration costs...they've done that! |

Hope Concorde has been properly secured by the Americans, it's the only SST and the fleet can't be replaced.
Would be a shame if the wind got under the large delta wings because if the plane leaves the ground chances are it will be written off and unlike houses it can't be replaced. |
First pictures coming back are looking positive so far :) hopefully!
