I had mine via cable modem prior to install (it's 10meg). If you have the V+ installed, they will also install a separate cable modem for you. I don't believe you are able to continue using STB even if you want to (don't know why you would want to though!!)

oh - they have to install a cable modem as well ... do they charge for that or is it part of the fee ? ... also if I want to move the modem to up stairs will they run cable throughout the house to get there ( i do have a wirless connection )

No extra charge, all included. You may be lucky and get them to run the cable outside the house, they will usually take whatever route is easiest for them. Or as you have wireless, you could keep it next to/behind your new STB.

If you go for the V+ with an additional STB upstairs, they will run a cable for the upstairs anyway, so they could add a splitter and put the cable modem there.

Re: PVR release dates

got mine this morning at 12.30.

Took about half hour for both multiroom and setup of V+.

A pair of really entertaining installers, actually.

I'm the 3rd person in the whole of Blackburn and Burnley to get a V+ Drive as the release date is 8th.

All content is here.

Watched 8 out of 10 cats and Red Dwarf S2 Ep 6.

recorded for a few seconds during Footie Focus, but going to test the full functionality tonight with TNA.

The other STB still connects me to BB, as I said it would.

Doesn't really go well with my all silver setup, but I may just make a case/facias for it with some of that photo gloss paper with a sticky back.

Picture quality is better. No blocks, which is impressive.

Can't seem to get the right TV Letterbox etc, but will fiddle.

Got the HDMI lead and an audio cable too.

Its froze up once, and it remembered all I told it to do! lol class!

all in all, I think 9/10 on Bransons first venture into the Virgin Media life!
woohoo!

Mine's still due on the 24th Feb, my choice to go so far ahead as I needed a Saturday.

Looking forward to it...can't remember the last time an NTL Digital TV product was so eagerly anticipated in such a widespread way.

to be honest they would have to run it upstairs and through the main bedroom through two rooms to get the cable to where my pc is... so I will stick with the router downsairs by the sTB

as the word spreads, the demand gets higher.

I'm glad I ordered an install at the end of january.

you need to get it done asap for a quicker installation time.

I love mine, one thing to bear in mind, if like me the installation engineer tells you that the volume controls no longer work then ignore him. All the codes to programme the remote to control the TV volume/mute are in the, Home/Guide > Help and Info > Help with your remote control menu.
Had a couple of problems with the recorded video playback but these are known faults 'apparently';)

You've booked an installation on 08th Feb already, or you can book on 08th Feb for an installation on unspecified date?

That is just the old Telewest page updated with the new names so not really "new" information.

Keep phoning back mate, i spoke to 4 people regarding my install in Stoke, I got different stories from everyone I spoke to. I was told it wasnt available, had been put back to march, was on trial only.

Luckily on the 5th call I spoke to someone who knew what they were on about and got it installed for me within 2 days :)
Its trial and error really who you speak to, some cant be bothered, some havent been trained, and some are very very good.
Id phone back again.

The best thing to do is come on here, find out all the information from us, the official releae dates and then you know all the info, even if the CS Rep doesn't.

Due an install this afternoon.

Tech arrives and tells the wife "Sorry its not available in this area yet, network problem."

Rang CS and have new date for 16th Feb, apparently the roll-out date for Solent region is now the 15th Feb.

Solent is experiencing problems according to many sources.

Codes, mainly. And a lot of content/features missing, so until that is fixed, the date is still penciled in.

I don't understand how they can't use the same code we have in Bromley.

Just ship a box down there!

I was also do an install today but got a phone call from field support last tuesday telling me that they were having serious technical problems and they rescheduled my install for the 14th which I was assured would definately go ahead.

So I'm a bit concerned to hear you say the release date is the 15th? Are you sure?

I was told mid February for Solent installations to commence so that would fit in with the current forecast of 15th February.
My install is for 19th, but was told that if there were any delays or problems then they would phone up and rearrange the date.
It all seems a bit of hope and guesswork at the moment, then mix in the garbled and random information from CS and it's a lottery !
Still in a week the launch of Virgin Media occurs so everything will change for the better.

Thought I'd better check with CS that my install was going ahead. Explained that I had an install booked for the 14th ..........there was along pause and then 'I'm afraid we're not installing in your area till the 15th, Miss White  . I'll have to get my supervisor to phone you back'. So an hour later I get a phone call to say my install has been moved to the 16th. I tried to explain that I had already taken the time off work but she said there was nothing she could do. So now i've got to go grovelling to the boss to try to change my day off.

Hi

Please forgive any errors here. I'm a Newbie to forums.

I've been visiting the V+ threads for a few weeks now, and can see how useful it is to share information like this.

I'd like to add my experience today to see if anyone else has had this problem thrown at them.
After the usual wait to talk to someone in Sales, and telling him to check again that I should not have to pay the £75 Installation fee, I'm now told that no installation can be booked for at least 2 weeks. The reason?
Their systems cannot cope with the switch of main STB for V+ because I wish to continue to rent the 2 additional stb's used by my sons in their rooms.
Sounds like the system blew a fuse and their programmers will take at least 2 weeks to sort it out!

Is my stb package so unusual that the booking system cannot cope?:)

Nope. I've had the STB, broadband and phone since I bought my house, and prior to that had the same at my folks place (all additional to their stuff).

Took no time at all to get through either...no waiting in a queue or anything.

Yup.

I called them and they confirmed that information last week, as well as when I had V+ installed, that's how we did things.

As seen as I had an RJ45 lead lying about that was long enough to go from my Bedroom to the Living Room, I shoved it into me wireless Modem so I could continue to use the PDA, and now, instead of getting a PC, might as well get another Lappy, although... My DL DVD RW won't like the sound of that.

Still, if there is a way to possibly use that externally, I will. If not, then I will sell it.

Re-Booked for 9th Feb 0800 - 1300

Finished 11:30

Top guy he was, it was his first V+ install so asked me how to show him how to use it  seeing as though I had a sky+ box sitting there he guessed I would know.

No issues with the install at all, programs all appeared within 10 mins and more importantly are still there lol.

Went out last night set it up to record a few proggys to test it and they all recorded fine. Just need some nice HD content now

Also sending the SACM to be installed that day as well. Hey guys, mine came today, really impressed with it, all installed within 30 mins and all channels are fine. HD looks great, but can be a bit grainy at times, not sure if its the cables im using. Currently its through component. I might buy a HDMI to DVI cable tomorrow, but just wanted to know, if i use the HDMI output what options do i have for audio. Because i only get sound from my Home Cinema, but it doesnt have any inputs, its connected to the TV via RGB scart, will i still be able to use the Phono audio outputs?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

My V+ installation has just been completed.

The engineer was early today, which was a nice surprise. He has set up the V+ box and a new cable modem which are all seem to be working fine.

The only small issue I have is that when I press the v+ button I get a message saying I am not subscribed to that service ... I was however told that it may take up to 4 hours for all the services to come through.

First impressions of the new box are very good, menu is fast and responsive and the box does look nice.

score another point for Virgin Media

Hi
Just got my v+box installed and new cable modem fitted. On another matter i have set it to 720 wide and not 720p,is there any difference between the two apart from the black bars?
Thanks.

quadplay 16-02-2007 14:18

Re: PVR release dates

In 720 wide mode, the V+HD box will stretch non-widescreen (4:3) pictures to fill the screen. In 720, it won't which is why you get the black bars. That's the only difference.

would love it if we had that option on the old samsung box too. i'd prefer to see black bars at the side rather than strechy vision

Re: PVR release dates

Most widescreen TVs will allow you to change that setting yourself if you're watching via SCART. They usually won't allow it via HDMI, which is why the setting is included in the V+HD box software.

Solent Installations

Hi everyone, I NOW HAVE A V+ BOX INSTALLED :D :D :D :D

The engineers turned up about 4 pm, it took about 30 mins to get it installed including having my existing box moved to my bedroom. The engineers were very friendly and polite. I got a black box with all the virgin media branding on it and the new virgin menus and epg software. The hit came through whilst the engineers were still here so they were able to give me quick demo.

First impression are that its GREAT!! Obviously haven't had much time to try it out but it seems to be working no probs and no problems with remote lag or anything (touch wood). Will report back once I've had time to play with it.

Hi Blueview

Absolutely no problems with my install so everything looks good for your install on Monday :) . In answer to your question about the VIP pack i definately am considering it, the big draw is the 10mb broadband. I reckon I'm paying about £72 at the moment (that includes the V+ and second Box). So it would be an extra £13 but I not that interested in the Sky movies (I get unlimted dvd rental from Blockbuster) or sports channels (well not untill the cricket is on in the summer). Still it probably is worth it !!!! :tu:

Was scheduled for 8-1 today.
Engineer arrived at 7.59. Excellent. Took about an hour.
All up and running OK. Old Samsung box transferred upstairs.

Disappointed there was no manual, though. Is there one online somewhere?
Also the On Demand not available yet. Does it take a few hours for this?
And need to know the handset code for Toshiba Regza 37". Can anyone help?

Mine took about four hours to update the On Demand.

Most codes are available via, Home/ Help & Info/Help with your remote control. Toshiba codes on page 34.

Jim.

Had my V+ installed Friday.

Still don't have the VOD, tech booked for Thursday.

May be that we will have to wait for the update scheduled for later this month to sort out the VOD problems in Solent.

Apart from no VOD everything else is great.

Is your green online light continually flashing?
If so, look at the 'Solent Installations' thread.

You can apparantly have more ithan one if you live in an ex-bromley area. :)

Flashing comms light on the knowsley network is normal after install while it's activated. Normally done within 48 hours.

I've seen houses with 3 TVD in them.

PVR stands for Personal Video recorder and the TV Drive was what the V+ was called before the company rebranded as Virgin Media.

it doesnt really matter now, as all the old legacy billing systems have been merged into 1, so if you want extra V+ boxes, you can.
