As for Keane, he may not be able to do it every game these days, but when he does, he's still one of the best defensive midfielders in the game.

I don't really see a problem. I don't mean that the representive should be right by his side, holding the cup! But he should wait for him at the dressing room and then escort him to the testing area and wait for him to complete the test.

I still don't think Rio should still be being paid.

Re: Football talk

As all Gooners know, medals aren't handed out for being top in November. As for being injured, Scholes was injured most of the time United were doing ok earlier in the season and him coming back has coincided with the current startling decline, but it's not his fault. Beckham scored a lot, made a lot and hasn't been replaced and United are in danger of slipping back into third place permanently as a result, and this can all be traced back to Man U not being a big enough club for top stars any more.

Any fool can see that if you've got a great midfield of Beckham/Scholes/Keane/Giggs and you sell one, move one forward and move one back you leave a hole. The question is, has that hole been filled (playing Solksjaer out of position doesn't count as filling it)?

Keane's strength wasn't as a defensive midfielder, it was as a box-to-box midfielder. That's gone from his game due to age.

You ooze such confidence in your posts, all spoken like a true Gooner, whose team are likely to win the premiership this season.

Its amusing to find the effect that being twelve points clear makes you a footballing expert, not only about Arsenal, but also Man Utd, Spurs and Chelsea.

Have you just re-ermerged from your shell regarding last seasons shambles ?

If Arsenal win the title, which I have no doubt they will, it will be interesting to see if they can maintain such a high standard of football, and emulate Utd's grasp on the premiership title over the past 12 years.

What you have to consider is, Utd have some promising yougsters coming through as do Arsenal, the only difference is, Utd have money, Arsenal don't atm.

Re: Football talk

Oo, bitter, very bitter. Kindly examine Tottenham's record at Old Trafford.

Arsenal do, of course, have a better manager, who actually manages his players and treats them as adults rather than injuring them with boots and taking time off to indulge in wrangles over racehorses. Seems to be working thus far.

Russ 21-03-2004 13:58

Re: Football talk

Although Arsenal's winning ways will be shortlived over the next few seasons and will inevitably return to their customary 'also-ran' status, there is absolutley no chance of United winning on sunday. As much as it kills me to say this, Arsenal are simply unbeatable at the moment and seeing as the game is at Highbury, United will have just play for pride. 3-0 to the Arse.

seeing as wenger has only won the championship 3 times and never managed to defend it successfully.......
fergie has won it 8 times and defended it numerously......
bring on the horses and kick more boots as it seems to have worked so far in his managerial career....
as for arsenal having a better manager i presume you mean this season?
because last season i would have called him pathetic , because even fergie wouldnt tell the papers his team "would not lose another match all season" and then get taken apart every game when they had about 12 points and 3 games advantage.....laff , i nearly bought a spurs shirt.

Sad thing is that Gerard Houllier will no doubt be hounded out of Anfield after this, he is a decent man and I hope he gets the chance to get them into 4th position and into the Champions League.

Cambridge United have named Frenchman Claude Le Roy, who has coached several national teams, as the struggling third division club's manager.

Le Roy replaces player-manager John Taylor, sacked by Cambridge's board last week. After losing 3-0 at Torquay on Saturday, Cambridge are just three points above the relegation zone and the bottom two have a game in hand.

Le Roy spent 15 years as a player in France and his managerial CV includes Cameroon, Senegal and Malaysia. He won the African Nations Cup with Cameroon in 1988.

Cambridge chairman Gary Harwood said the appointment of Le Roy, who will start on Monday, was possibly the most exciting in the club's history.

"In Claude we have secured the services of one of the most respected managers in Europe, if not the world," he said on the club's website.

A police officer playing football in an amateur cup final was shown a red card last night after he tackled a streaker on the pitch.

Brian Pritchard, 29, was sent off after catching the man during the match between Witton Albion and Woodley Sports in the Unibond Cheshire Senoir Cup Final.
As the Witton Albion skipper trudged off for an early bath, minor scuffles broke out amongst supporters at the game at Altrincham's Moss Lane ground in Cheshire, but there were no arrests.
To add insult to injury, 10 man Witton went on to lose the tense match 2-1 after extra time.
A spokesman for Witton Albion said: "Our central defender Brian Pritchard was sent off for apprehending a streaker, which was deemed violent conduct by the senior official.
"We are appealing this decision and are awaiting the result"
The identity of the streaker remains a mystery.

Following on from the tale of the player sent off for downing a streaker, here is another football tale from todays Telegraph.

A children's football league has banned clubs from contacting a newspaper that published the result of a high-scoring match.

The Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League was angered by a report in the Derbyshire Times describing a 29-0 win as a comprehensive trouncing, saying the losers could feel humiliated. The newspaper was told it was against the league's rules to report scores over 14.

Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry has accused Manchester United of spreading the rumours of a punch-up between him and team-mate Lauren.

They couldn't hurt us on the pitch so they tried to spread rumours about us," he told the Daily Mirror.

"I don't respect people who spread this kind of rumour. I don't respect them as players and now I don't respect them as men. We can't be affected by this.''

If this match was so important, Henry and Reyes would of started. IF it was half important, Wenger would of brought Henry & Reyes on at half time.. When did they come on? :o

My footy team had 2 semi's, and the runners up spot in the league to contend with.. Last week we played in the Semi final, and played one of our weaker sides.. (still won, but diff story:pp).. Why? It's not that it wasn't important, it was, they were up for the treble, saying that is just trying to justify that they lost ;) Losers justification if you want to call it. (Funny, if a Utd fan had come out with that, if we had lost, we would have been called sore losers)

The reason, according to Wenger, that Henry didn't start was that he was very tired after international duty with France.

If Wenger had to choose a compeition to go out of it would probably have been the FA cup. But to say that he couldn't care about the result when his team is on for a treble is just silly. :)

Anyway, does this look like a man who doesn't care?

Edu is considering throwing in his lot with England after failing to make an impression at national level with Brazil.

The 25-year-old, who has taken some time to settle Arsenal, has been in fine form for the Gunners this season, winning rave reviews on the left side of their midfield.

The 25-year-old, who has taken some time to settle Arsenal, has been in fine form for the Gunners this season, winning rave reviews on the left side of their midfield.

"People keep saying there are no left-footers for the England midfield and that it's a problem," said Edu.

"It is something to think about for me. If Brazil don't pick me for international football, then why not?

:Yikes: That'd be wicked news :D

What a fantastic week its been for the Arsenal. Stuffed by United and now by Chelsea. I bet, every united fan in the country wanted chelsea to win. The league isnt over yet, Arsenal will collapse at the end and let the Red army through.

Well done Chelsea, Arsenal looked very tired in the second half- two tough games coming up against Newcastle and Liverpool, put your money on Chelsea now for the title!

Well done to Monaco too! Morientes is on loan from Real (who are also paying 40% of his wages)

I would not bet against Chelski, think the Reds have blown it but who cares :D :D
PS. England for a whitewash in the Windies, now that would be a perfect weekend.

What does an Arsenal fan do when he's won the treble?
He turns his PS2 off and goes to bed!
:pp

No, tonight was a great result for English football but there's no way the Arse will slip up in the premiership.
