Re: Superhub 2
Thank you very much for that Sephiroth. I am just glad the engineer wasn't trying to pull the wool over my eyes.
I've asked on the main help and support forum as well for an official answer, but obviously they either haven't noticed or haven't formulated an answer for me yet. Which is why I asked on here before hand as there seems to be a good knowledge pool. The thing that annoys me is that they are still installing SH2s in the area and then having to go out and replace them with SH1s less than a week later. I only paid a fraction of the installation cost to have it installed, and the deal I got was quite good for my package, but it annoys me when I pay for a service only to have it removed a week later for a known fault. I'll give Virgin a week or so (the engineer told me about a fortnight) and then I'll give them a call. |
Re: Superhub 2
The thing about the SH2 in this case is that sometimes they install, sometimes not. If they try to lock onto a particular upstream channel (the cause of the problem), failure can occur. If they don't lock onto that channel, they install.
When the networking people have sorted this channel out the issue will go away for SH2. When a SH1 locks onto the offending channel, IMO there will be some performance effect but that will be somewhat invisible because the channel has at least been acquired. What I've said above is my extrapolation from what I was officially told by VM. |
Re: Superhub 2
That's cool, at least I have some info that I can go to VM with and not sound like a dithering idiot.
That said, I'll give them time to sort it. Just received an official response as well http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...996514#M135279 Thanks for all the help, at least I know what's going on. |
Re: Superhub 2
Hi guys upgrading from 20mb upto 60mb this coming Tuesday.
Currently use a WNDR3700 Netgear router. Do I stick the new superhub2 into modem mode and user my current router? Or ditch it, and use the SH2 as my wireless router. Cheers all. |

Re: Superhub 2
Or if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to disable DHCP on the WNDR3700 and use both (With one or two side effects).

Re: Superhub 2
The Superhub 2 does on paper have 50% faster 802.11n @ 5Ghz.

Re: Superhub 2
I have been trying to get one of these SH2 for a while now but Virgin insisted on a £49+ installation charge. As I am already on the top package, I could not upgrade to qualify for the free upgrade from the SH1. Today, I emailed Tom Mockridge at Virgin and within 3 hours, I have had an email response, a phone call with an apology and am now getting a free installation on Friday. Couple that with the upgrade onto Talk Unlimited Extra plus a £5 discount for the next 2 years with no contractual tie-in I am quite impressed. If you are having issues, I would suggest an email to Mr Mockridge will get it resolved quite quickly. I am looking forward to the extra speed and range.

I'm getting a shub2 on Thursday, is it possible to run it in router mode but shut off the wireless?
