https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...-league-rights These reports emanate from Gavin Patterson's statement that BT have a 'Plan B', but this might have been misinterpreted. BT have previously stated that winning the Premiership rights is not existential for them because they have rights to the Champions League and other sports which would allow them to continue to offer their own sport channels. All of this does not necessarily mean that BT will not bid this time around. They may be merely facing the reality of having potentially to face more competition this time. With the number of viewers falling off and football now having to pay for itself on BT, they are not going to be paying silly money to retain these rights. ---------- Post added at 11:12 ---------- Previous post was at 11:07 ---------- Quote:

I heard a news Sports TV channel has started that available. On various Tv broadcastors.
VM have turned this down, as they say the channels wants too much money for it. Typical VM, want channels on the cheap |

How would that work if Sky won packages and ESPN won the remainder , if the Disney takeover completed they'd then own all the rights.

Mad Max.
My whole and total whinge about VM. Is that they are always increasing there prices. Three times last year - and NO increase in NEW channels. We the customer deserve better. My wife does have VM, and the basic package. We have Sky as we have it on a cheaper package and get MORE channels that VM have. VM couldn't beat the Sky deal, my wife tried. |

This article suggests Amazon have made a bid for a small package of Premier League matches to test the water:
https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/h...be-generation/ "The latest Premier League TV rights deal is set to be completed this week and industry experts predict there will be very little growth from the £5.1bn last time, if any at all. Apart from Amazon, which has bid for a small package to test the water, the tech giants do not appear interested in taking on Sky and BT Sport." This article suggests BT where interested in the simulcast packages: http://www.firstpost.com/sports/prem...d-4342903.html "BT is understood to be interested in the "simulcast" idea, which is also designed to draw in one or more digital hosts such as Amazon, Facebook, Google or Netflix." This for me is interesting. Wonder if BT and Amazon may have partnered up for a joint bid on some packages? A bit of content sharing. ---------- Post added at 12:50 ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 ---------- With an announcement on the Premier League rights expected today it's interesting to see both SKY and Amazon's share prices climb this morning whilst BT's has gone in the other direction. It makes perfect sense for Amazon to test the water like this, ready for the big push in 2022. If BT or Sky lose out to Amazon in the future, I think a tie-up between Amazon and Sky and/or BT is highly likely. |

Part of me thinks BT sport will get it so they can do the whole brag of "more premier league football than ever before!!!" even though it'll be the rubbish saturday morning game and a rubbish midweek bournemouth vs stoke or something. I bet the other midweek pack will go to amazon. premier league will be fearing a further money drop for the next bunch of rights so will probably want a third party involved this time to try and be a "success" with the third party who will then want to bid for more rights next time and hence push the price up. Premier league probably hate how BT and sky have done a "deal" and will want the third party to be more involved next time to trigger another "war". I bet some figures will be diddled to get Amazon a pack. More greed and more price for the customers! |

ESPN could be an outsider for the remaining 2 packs as they are set to offer their own steaming service.
Safe bet would be 1 each to Sky and BT |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
So the packs remaining:
Package F – NOT YET ASSIGNED Total matches: 20 Matches per club: Max two; Min two Kick-off times: All 20 matches from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme Package G – NOT YET ASSIGNED Total matches: 20 Matches per club: Max two; Min two Kick-off times: All 20 matches from two midweek fixture programmes Does that mean however wins say one of these packages have to simulcast all games on that day? For example all 10 games from a bank holiday at the same time? 10 games simulcast from a Wednesday? If so it's no surprise a buyer hasn't been secured yet. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
The Telegraph are reporting nobody bid the reserve price for the 2 unsold packages of games. It's also suggested the packages where designed to entice interest from streaming services.

The streaming services want Sports rights but don't want to be breaking the bank to acquire them especially when they are only available on a country by country basis.

Perhaps the lack of bids from these companies this time was a deliberate strategy by them to force the Premier League to revisit these arrangements. With the BBC acknowledging that existing broadcast channels will no longer exist in favour of internet only content within the next couple of decades (see linear thread), I can see why the EPL would want to attract the likes of Amazon, Netflix, Disney, Google, Twitter etc at this stage. |
