Hope there's a lot more to that story than the Fail are presenting.

Just because you don't like something and/or doesn't appear in "The Guardian", doesn't mean it isn't true.

You do realise the the reports are usually sourced from elsewhere, although a lot in this case are obviously in German.

Was Europe "seriously endangered" before the "Schengen system" was started in 1985?

Thank you.

The sigh was a wistful one and the hope one I knew was likely in vain.

Evidently those didn't translate well to the post.

There may be trouble ahead,
But while there's moonlight and music and love and romance,
Let's face the music and dance.

Before the fiddlers have fled,
Before they ask us to pay the bill,
And while we still have the chance,
Let's face the music and dance.

Soon, we'll be without the moon,
Humming a different toon,
And then, there may be tear drops to shed.
So while there's moonlight and music and love and romance,
Let's face the music and dance.

... and the Danes have just approved new laws to allow the seizing of valuables from refugees. Now that doesn't sound like much of a welcome does it?...

Quote:

The Danish parliament has backed a controversial proposal to confiscate asylum seekers' valuables to pay for their upkeep.

Police will be able to seize valuables worth more than 10,000 kroner (1,340 euros; £1,000) from refugees to cover housing and food costs.

MPs also approved plans to delay family reunions for asylum seekers.
Two fingers up to the great and the good eh?

Iirc Danes have always been subject to the same laws. Why should migrants be any different providing of course I did recall correctly

Quelle surprise. Only just worked it out matey.

The rest are asylum seekers who mostly don't qualify either.

I wonder if the Beeb will now drop the obligatory 'many fleeing conflict in Syria' tag line in favour of 'the majority being economic migrants claiming to be refugees'?

Seriously what did they think would happen when they effectively issued an open invitation to anyone claiming to be from Syria? Sadly, the world is full of desperate people and the EU is really only experiencing the tip of a very large iceberg.

No chance! The PC BBC have tied themselves in gordian knots trying avoid the use of the moniker "Islamic Terrorist" They've probably got teams of linguists looking for another term.

If there's a "legitimate" way for them to try their luck they'll take it.

Turkey has been a gateway for illegal immigrants for decades, if not longer. And as long as the traffickers remain, the flow will not cease.

... and if they are ever given entry to the EU it'll become an even bigger gateway for uncontrollable legal migration.

Greece has "seriously neglected" its obligations to control the EU's external borders, the European Commission has said in a draft report.

The assessment found failures to register, check and fingerprint migrants arriving in November.

Greece is required to control its borders as part of the passport-free Schengen accord and has been given three months to improve the situation.

If it does not, other Schengen states could temporarily close their borders.

I imagine they'll need some more money to do all of that don't you think? Whose bright idea was it to admit Greece into Eurolalaland then?...

Twice hourly, the Austrian authorities put them on trains across the border, and the Germans are there to receive and process them.

Behind this practised routine though there looms a crisis for Germany and Europe. For the numbers arriving in Rosenheim and other centres in Bavaria are still so large that it has triggered a revolt against Chancellor Angela Merkel and her policy of allowing unlimited numbers of asylum seekers to come to her country from war zones.

As we watched people registering at Rosenheim, Inspector Benjamin Fretscher told me that arrivals there are running at between 800 and 2,000 a day. But when you include those getting to other centres in the southern German state, the total comes to 3,000-4,000 each day, officials told us off camera - a very different story to the 2,000 daily mentioned recently by Germany's interior minister.

That 3,000-4,000 figure could be politically ruinous for Mrs Merkel, for - at that rate - far from the steep cut promised for 2016 by the German government, this year's asylum seekers would far exceed last year's 1.1 million.

What's more, Germany finds itself in this situation at a time of year when Mediterranean storms and freezing Balkan weather are thought to be holding migration down - spring promises still higher numbers.
