Job losses are the first thing I would expect to see.

I would call it a reality check -Fail to recall a takeover that increased staff levels in the short term, and why would that be pessimistic

To be fair when one company takes over another 9 times out of 10 there's a reconstruction phase which means job losses!

I don;t care who provides me with what! However i'm slightly worries about this rivalry between the two protagonists! I hope it doesn't effect us from having Sky channels in the medium to long term!

BTW Press release states that "Virgin Media will continue to operate under the Virgin Media brand in the UK." so looks like no re-brand for the time being which makes perfect sense as it's 'known' now.

American companies have a thing about offshoring. Both Swansea and Wythenshawe may come under the microscope.

Thanks MB, was gonna check this morning, but as always you are there first:)

IF, and its a big, IF we get the missing HD channels UPC have and VM dont, we will have a pretty formidable HD line up and BT will have some serious catching up to do.

Saying that I will be happy if we just get NatGeo Wild HD from that line up

Nothing is certain except death & taxes. However it would be amazing if job cuts / losses / redundancy, call it what you will did not follow. Uncle Neil for a start.

Mr Berkett has already said he will be resigning at the completion of the deal.

The incentive plan that was approved a couple of weeks ago does have the 'if a senior member of staff departs within 12 months of a change in ownership they get accelarated share incentives' clauses, so I wouldn't be surprised if within those 12 months there's a reasonable number of new faces in the posh management offices. Can't say I'd be too upset to fall fowl of that sort of clause.

Cheers

Grim

Notice that UPC Ireland doesn't have Sky Atlantic. Wouldn't mind the RTE channels, might get some Hurling back on the TV again.

Seriously I can't see much happening in the short term, but five years hence the IP world will be a lot different and who knows how we will view our tele.

They don't have Sky Atlantic because that is exclusive to Sky (however they wish to dress this up).

Shouldn't think that is a problem to be honest. UPC Ireland carries the Sky channels.
